SeraphStarshine is a lovely account home to books such as 'Here's to the Heartache' which has 111k reads, and 'Three Cheers To Sweet Frerard' which has 211k reads. It was great to interview them, and here is what they had to say!

Why did you start writing on Wattpad?

Honestly I never really planned to. I had written fanfiction before on other sites but I hadn't stuck with it so I thought it wasn't really for me. I only made this account because a friend of mine was writing a story and wanted me to read it, and I decided to upload some of my older works just to have something on my profile. Then about two years ago I went through some not so great times and I sort of reverted to writing as a coping mechanism. I remembered how much I loved it and I have been writing consistently since then.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

All over the place really. My first few stories were products of dreams that I had actually, and I also really enjoy taking typical plots like teacher/student fics or vampire fics and putting my own spin on things. Lately I have been writing more canon compliant things as well, so I'll base my stories around real events and sort of twist them into what I wish had happened if that makes sense.

What's been your proudest moment on Wattpad?

Probably today when I hit 5k followers. I also get really excited when an author I look up to reads my stories and enjoys something I write.

Which book has been the most fun to write?

I think that would be my Frerard fanfic called This Is Our Second Skin. That story almost wrote itself, and it was a change from what I had been writing in the sense that it was very fluffy and the plot was more simplistic than the convoluted ones I had thought up previously. It focused on drag queens quite a bit which was a fun topic to delve into and I finished it quickly as well which is rare for me.

What's the hardest part about writing on Wattpad?

I think for me that would be the negativity, which I don't encounter often but it's still very discouraging. Feedback is lovely but receiving hurtful comments are always tough to deal with, but overall I try to remember that I write for myself and because I enjoy it and that is enough to keep me going. Also I didn't mean to add two things but focusing on more of the writing aspect I think it is also easy to get overwhelmed. When I first started properly writing on here I got so excited and published way too many fics which left me constantly stressing about updating in a timely fashion. So although everyone is different, I wouldn't suggest writing more than two stories at a time even though it is very tempting.

Are you planning on writing anymore books in the future?

Oh yes I have so many planned it's a struggle not to start them now even though I know I won't be able to handle it if I do. I don't want to go into too much detail just in case I change my mind or some of them don't happen but I have three stories planned out for sure at the moment that I'm waiting to start on and I am also thinking of turning a few of my oneshots into short fics as well so there is a lot I want to delve into in the future.

And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?

I would say just be yourself and write what you like. I see so many people on here who write what they think people want to read and they typically end up getting discouraged very quickly. Don't worry about reads and votes right away, they will come with time, especially if you are enjoying yourself. Writing should be a pleasant experience and not a hassle or a chore so don't stress too much and have fun with it.
