Why did you download Wattpad?

First of all, I would like to thank you for this amazing opportunity. I truly feel accomplished; the fact that I've been nominated to give this interview. So, thank you very much. Thank you to my readers and it's due to their immense support that I am where I am. Thank you very much. I truly appreciate it.

I just had a lot of words that I wished to share with the world. I was just surfing the net, trying to find a website where I could publish my poetry and I came across Wattpad. I read through the reviews and loved how welcoming everyone was. It also allowed me to share my writing. I wished to express myself and maybe inspire someone, somewhere, to write for themselves. And let me tell you, it was one of my best decisions.

Why did you start writing poetry?

I felt as if I had a lot to say but I didn't want to express my thoughts through just paragraphs of words. The emotions that I had been bottling up for ages just one day exploded. Words poured out and I couldn't stop them from tumbling out on paper. This was my revival, a sort of reconciliation. Poetry allowed me to live again, it was my type of therapy. As if I was my own psychiatrist. But at the same time, I wished to help people. I have always wished to be able to help people. I believe that no one should be left alone with their destructive thoughts. People need to be nurtured and cared for, and I felt I could achieve this through poetry.

How does it feel knowing that you've helped people through things such as depression with your words?

To know that I've helped people through my words is an unexplainable feeling. It's so overwhelming to know that I have given someone the strength to carry on. Depression is a traumatising disorder, I of all people should know. It's truly a remarkable feeling, to know that I have managed to help someone through it. It's this overwhelming feeling you get when someone turns around and says, "it's because of you that I didn't give up."

How did it feel to hit 1k for the first time?

To be honest, when I was writing, I didn't focus on the reads or the number of votes I got. I was just writing; I was doing what I loved. And I believe when you don't focus too much on the number of views or the number of votes, your work will be more successful. But to know that so many people appreciate my work and can relate to it is an amazing feeling. It gives you a sense of achievement, a light pat on the back if you prefer.

Who are your writing inspirations?

My writing inspiration is derived from how I felt when I write that particular poem and the people who inspired me to write those emotions. Aside from my personal writing experience, I believe that the author who inspired me and helped me to grow as a writer was Markus Zusak. His writing truly matured me, his books enabled me to define myself as a poet and gave me the power to write and learn at the same time. But at the end of the day, people are my writing inspirations. Just people in general. How someone can scrunch up their shirt because they're nervous to how someone can bite their lift and shift on their feet because they're anxious and how someone can love the smell of cigarettes because it reminds them of their lover because they always smell like smoke and mint. Just people in general. These tiny, little things inspire me to write. People who have nervous ticks or have certain, unexplainable phobias. Things such as these inspire me, to write freely because it's all based on people and my inspiration derives from these elements which makes up my poetry.

Are you planning on writing any books in the future?

For the time being, I'm going to stick with the books which I have currently published. There are two more books which I had deleted from my account for some re-touching. I will have to work on them first before writing another book. But if I feel like it or am inspired enough, who knows? I might just start writing another one.

And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?

Don't be afraid. Write something and even if you're not satisfied, don't backspace and delete your ideas. These ideas can be altered, elaborated, nurtured. Ideas are the foundation of everything. Just write and do it freely. Remember, you can always go back and change it but for the time being, just write. Words are your weapon, use them wisely. Don't be afraid of criticism, take it head on. And don't ever stop writing. Words allow you to float above all your wrongs and feel right about it. Words can make or break someone. So, just write. Be it for any genre, just give it your all.
