@LyssFrom1996
LyssFrom1996 is an amazing writer on Wattpad, who has written a whole host of beautiful books such as 'What Happened That Night' which has over 500k reads, and 'Ella Was' which has 23k reads (great name choice 😉). This is my interview with her!
Why did you start writing on Wattpad?
I started writing on Wattpad after the old website I had been using became riddled with plagiarists with very little help from the site's creators. A lot of my friends had moved to this site and when I asked whether I should make my Wattpad account my primary account, I was met with deafening agreement so I did.
Which of the characters you've created has been your favourite and why?
Wilson Westbrooke. If you asked me why I loved that broken boy as much as I do, I probably couldn't tell you why because I loved him before his backstory was even a thought. There was just something that made me want to write him and eventually, though a few plot twists, he was redeemed into a character that I felt the readers loved as much as I did. It also didn't hurt that he had an almost effortless chemistry with Clara, the protagonist of What Happened That Night. It was the only part of the book itself that surprised ME.
What's been your proudest moment on Wattpad?
When Wattpad asked me to join their Stars' program.
Where do you see your account in six months?
Hopefully I'll be posting regularly and it'll be a book that I'm proud to post. WHTN has been a harder act to follow than I thought.
What's the hardest part of writing on Wattpad?
Finding a book that inspires you long enough to write and post it entirely. After finishing a book, I'll normally go through this process of indecisiveness for around a year or so before I find something that clicks again.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
For WHTN, it was several crime documentaries that I will admit are my guilty pleasure. In fact, I watched so many episodes of "Deadly Women" that it started to freak my sister out. But it can come from simple things as well, such as tropes or songs or those inspiration quotes that accompany gifs of ships on Tumblr. Those can get me going for a while.
And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?
Write because you have a story to tell, not because you have a story you want others to hear.
