a_million_universes is a brilliant writer on Wattpad, and has written her debut book called 'Endangered' which is a Sci-Fi book with 10k reads. It was great to interview them, and here is what they had to say!

Why did you start writing on Wattpad?

I started writing on Wattpad mostly because I wanted to be able to actually finish something. I used to write small chapters since I didn't have a word count, and my stories never seemed to be as good as they could be. Once I got a Wattpad account and found a story idea I was proud of, I was able to write novel-sized chapters that people love!

What's been your proudest moment on Wattpad?

My proudest moment on Wattpad, I'd have to say, was when I won my first Wattpad contest. I believe it was the Shadow Awards, and I actually won first place and made a few new friends while I did it. Endangered ended up winning several awards after that, and even though I don't have the sticker still on my cover, it is on my desktop and shows me how far I've come as a writer.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration usually comes from survival quotes and songs. I absolutely love survival and apocalypse, and so I often find that looking up a song to listen to while I write is really helpful. Some authors I admire include James Dashner and, surprisingly enough, quite a few teen fiction books that I'd never imagined I'd like such as Riders by Veronica Rossi. However, I've never read a book I didn't finish!

Which book has been the most fun to write?

Endangered has to be it. I never got very far on any books besides one I dubbed Apocalypse, which I shared among my classmates. To be honest, I think the main reason is because of Allegra, who is someone I aspire to be. Strong, elegant, and sarcastic; she's totally my idol. Orion and Bryson are also fun, but the thing that brings it together is the atmosphere. It's eerie and creepy, yet satisfying and magnificent (in my opinion at least XD). The thought of a world without humans is frightening but beautiful.

What's the hardest part about writing on Wattpad?

I'd have to say that hardest part is the deadlines. Sometimes you get a bit of writer's block or are caught up with too much schoolwork and you can't keep your promises. However, though it is the most challenging part, it is also the most bracing. It makes you type and type and keep typing because you want to stay on schedule. It's what's kept me from trashing Endangered at its lowest points and what makes me file other ideas away for later. Nobody likes a book on hold, and I hate leaving things unfinished. That's why I'm so happy people comment on my stories because it reminds me that sometime, somewhere, someone needs me.

Which are your favourite chapters to write and why?

The most exciting chapters to write have to be the most action-packed. I believe it was chapter 14, The Hybrid's Message that was the best. It has violence, blood, and savagery, but also a fast-moving plot and surprises at the end of the chapter when Allegra discovers the Hybrids' ability to write. I owe that one to the people in the comments who claimed they wanted more violence and destruction--turns out those are some of the best parts!

And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?

Never give up. Sometimes it will get hard and you'll want to quit and cry in a corner (has happened to me on several occasions!) but remember you are writing for you. You want to get better, and as long as you keep writing and don't give up, you can make something beautiful.
