Potato Mechanics

Yes, I am this desperate.

It is a dark stormy night. The power is out, but you are still awake. You can't fall asleep, so you get on your phone, but that phone is dying. Slowly, you watch in horror as the battery life reaches closer and closer to zero. You need to work fast if you want to save your ever constant friend (and Candy Crush data). You leap out of bed and are about to run out of the room when you hear your relative in the next room snoring. You cannot awake them to this fate. They do not deserve to watch their best friend die, no matter how often they eat your candy supply.

Quietly but quickly, you sneak out of your room and towards the basement door. You decided against entering as you hear the CRACK of lightning. Plus, you have no idea how to fix a breaker anyway. You continue on quest to find power. You go to the backdoor of your house and look out at the storm. You see a strange box like object near the door. You vaguely recall that it's called a generator, but also remember that it is too loud. Discouraged, you go to the kitchen to stock up on snacks. There is no way to know how long this outage will last.

As you reach for some delicious cheesy snacks you hear the warning beep from your phone. Only 10% left. You need to make it back to your room as quickly as possible. Who knows what lurks around a dark corner in your house. It is better not to risk it.

Quickly, you grab the cheesy snacks, but in your haste to grab them, you hear something fall to the floor. You shine the weak light from your phone on it and see that it is... a potato.

The wheels in your mind start turning and you remember a science project that you did for school. You look down at your phone. 6%. If this doesn't work you will be abandoned in the darkness with no one to save you until morning.

You place the potato and the rest of the bag it came from on the counter and dash towards the back door where you saw a few tools lying about. You grab the alligator clips and a box of nails. From your room, you grab your charger and your prized penny collection. From your relative's room you steal a pair of earphones.

Using a knife, you strip the wires from the earphones. Then you assemble all the potatoes you have in a grid fashion. You then proceed to a cut hole the size of a penny in each potato. Then you wrap the pennies with the wire and place the pennies in each potato. You connect each wire to a nail you placed in the potato. Finally, you use the alligator clips to connect the different nails. Now for the moment of truth. You plug your charge into one of the potatoes and attach your phone.

The battery is at 1%. The screen starts fading to black when... 2%. Success! Your friend will live to see another Facebook notification. Except...

None of that happened. Your phone died while you were looking for a drink to go with your cheesy snacks and you were left in the dark. All they found of your remains the next morning was the crumbs of your cheesy snacks.

If only you had someone to help you with your potato battery! Then perhaps things would have been different. If only there was some place to find these people!

Well now there is! Welcome to the Potato Mechanics, the practical MacGyver's of the Wattpad Community. These guys will help you get your characters out of sticky situations using the everyday objects around them because sometimes even duct tape can't save the day and needs backup. Normal villains aren't just going to leave weapons and supplies laying around, so it's important to make your book as realistic as possible by coming up with clever ways to help your characters. If you can't come up with these yourselves, that's what this group is for! If you want to be a Potato Mechanic, PM me or say so in the comments.

PS. This will have a name change to Crafters in WHW 2.0.

PSS. You have just witnessed a rare sight, a story written in 2nd person present tense. Besides future tense, this is the rarest form of story. Congrats.
