Monika: The best way to bring fear, is to get into your opponents head. Like these two very underrated villains.

Ann: Scarecrow, the man who brings fear onto DC.

Monika: And Mysterio, the illusionist of Marvel.

Ann: I'm Ann Takamaki.

Monika: And I'm Monika. It's time... for a Death Battle!

In a museum in Gotham City during a full moon, Mysterio was walking around as he was looking at all the things he can take.

Mysterio: Ah yes, now which one of you should I sell to the black market? Well, it doesn't matter. Taking anything from here will make me billions! And everyone will know the name of Mysterio!

Scarecrow: So... that is your reason for being here...

Mysterio turned around to see Scarecrow right behind him.

Scarecrow: We all have our reasons for choosing our paths... but sadly, your path has lead you to me...

Mysterio: Hmph. And who are you supposed to be?

Scarecrow: Me? ... I am...

Scarecrow sprayed his toxin to make himself look like something far more sinister.

Scarecrow: ...Your nightmare...

Mysterio: Is that supposed to scare me?

A bunch of mist surrounded Scarecrow as Mysterio summoned a giant snake. Scarecrow pulled out a gun and shot the snake but the bullet went right through it.

Scarecrow: What?

Mysterio then summoned another snake and two tigers around Scarecrow.

Scarecrow: Hmph... do you really think you could toy with me using such cheap tricks?

Mysterio: Of course... but what is a trick? And what is reality?!

Mysterio summoned a huge burst of green gas that blinded Scarecrow for a moment. Scarecrow looked up to see Mysterio right in front of him. Scarecrow pulled out his Chainsickle and swung it at him, but as soon as he did, Mysterio's body disappeared. Another Mysterio appeared and punched him before disappearing again. Then another appeared, Scarecrow swung his blade but that Mysterio was just an illusion.

Scarecrow: Tch.

Mysterio: Muahahahaha! Can you see the difference in you and I?! My power is far superior!

Another Mysterio went to punch him but this time Scarecrow caught it.

Mysterio: What?!

Scarecrow used the syringes on his gauntlet to stab Mysterio, inserting the fear toxin into him. Mysterio fell to the ground.

Mysterio: Gah! W-What have you done! Ah! I-I'm...

Scarecrow: Hmph. You're not dying. You just feel like you are... my toxins filling your lungs, drowning you in your greatest fears. What can you see? You're past failures? One man rising above you? Or maybe... your own death?

Scarecrow quickly stomped straight  through its head only to discover that it was just an android.

Scarecrow: A fake?

Mysterio: That's right!

Scarecrow turned around to see four more Mysterio's hovering above him.

Mysterio: And I have plenty more where that came from!

They all fired a huge blast at Scarecrow that knocked him back hard. Scarecrow immediately recovered as he dropped his chainsickle and pulled out his scythe. One of the Mysterio's dashed at him and Scarecrow swung his scythe, but that Mysterio was just an illusion. Another Mysterio went to grab him from behind but Scarecrow quickly jumped back to avoid him. Scarecrow sprayed fear gas through his glove at that Mysterio but it was another machine. Scarecrow grabbed him and through him into another Mysterio which was an illusion. Then the last Mysterio hit Scarecrow in the head with a wooden chair. Scarecrow grabbed him and breathed fear toxin straight through his helmet but it was an android too.

Scarecrow: What?

The real Mysterio appeared behind him and blasted Scarecrow with a ray gun.

Scarecrow: Gah!

Scarecrow fell to his knees as he was dazed.

Mysterio: I got you! Man I'm good at this!

Mysterio walked up to Scarecrow and kicked him to the ground.

Mysterio: Now then, one more shot should do the trick.

Mysterio aimed his gun but Scarecrow suddenly swatted it out of his hand as he was starting to transform.

Mysterio: What?

Scarecrow stood up as he was radiating with fear toxin. He grew in size as he had become Scarebeast.

Mysterio: W-what the- What... are you...?

Scarecrow started walking towards him and Mysterio quickly pulled out a tranquilizer and shot him with it, but it had no effect. Mysterio stumbled back as the fear toxin was going through his suit.

Mysterio: S-Stay back!

Scarecrow swatted Mysterio through a pillar and into a wall as his glass helmet shattered. Scarecrow picked him up and slammed him into a wall. Mysterio looked at him as everything around him was warped and twisted.

Scarecrow: Are you afraid? You should be...

Mysterio: No... no... NOOO!!!

Scarecrow swung his fist and sent it straight through Mysterio's head. Scarecrow dropped his dead body and walked away.

Monika: Wow, that was a pretty mind screwing one. Though it was pretty quick.

Ann: Both opponents have shown their own advantages and disadvantages in battle. Scarecrow is a better fighter and smarter opponent while Mysterio is better at getting in the heads of those much smarter than him.

Monika: However, all that comes out the window as what really matters is whose illusions works best on the other.

Ann: Right. What made Mysterio a huge threat was his ability to screw with the minds of others. And with Scarecrow having a complete lack of fear, there was a limit to what he could do to Scarecrow to actually screw with him.

Monika: But why didn't his suit protect him from the fear toxin?

Ann: Well, that's because the fear toxin is corrosive, able to eat through things like hazmat suits. While Mysterio's helmet can protect him from his own illusions, there's no way it's protecting him from that. Plus, Scarecrow could easily break the glass or just send the toxin through his bloodstream directly.

Monika: It was definitely over once Scarecrow transformed into Scarebeast, who was much faster and stronger.

Ann: Right. Mysterio definitely had the arsenal to make it a tricky match, but I'm afraid this mysterious battle was too much of a scare for him.

Monika: The winner... is Scarecrow.

Ann: Sooo... this battle came out a bit late...

Monika: Oh don't worry, the next battle will be the finale of the October Special.

Ann: Huh? Really?

Monika: That's right! Next time on the final battle of October!

Alucard: So... it's finally my turn to come out...

Dio: It's time to show you who is really superior.
