Monika: Son of Gerald Crane, Johnathan Crane was born out of wedlock and left under the abusive care of his maternal great grandmother, Mary Keeny.

Ann: Mary was a religious fanatic who thought it was a great idea to force Crane to wear a scarecrow outfit and let crows attack him. This gave Crane a fear of crows as well as a fear of his great grandmother.

Monika: Adding both these fears, along with being bullied in highschool, Crane became obsessed with phobias and decided to unlock its mysteries by attending Gotham University to study psychology and biochemistry.

Ann: Unfortunately, he got kicked out for using... human test subjects.

Monika: Oh don't worry, he became a psychologist in Arkham Asylum and continued his experiments. Eventually, he would be stopped by the world's greatest detective, Batman.

Ann: After loosing his fear to crows and his grandmother, Crane would eventually become one of Batman's most dangerous foes and take on the name, Scarecrow.

Monika: Along with his new persona came his own way of taking on his enemy... with his most dangerous weapon, his fear toxin.

Monika: A corrosive, powerful gas that causes people to live out hallucinations of their greatest fears, with their surroundings becoming surreal and distorted.

Ann: The gas can also over-exaggerate the environment around the victim. Making common bugs look gigantic, making pipes look like snakes, or making a simple match look like an inferno. The chaos it creates can cause crowds of people or allies to turn against each other.

Monika: He can even change his own appearance. Weather it be into a scary, intimidating monster or a giant that can throw fireballs which can take hits from the batmobile.

Ann: Scarecrow also has plenty of ways to inflict his fear toxin like grenades, bombs, gas tanks, or even his own suit.

Ann: As far as it goes, it's basically some rags with some fear toxin canisters and fear toxin straws. It has electrical leads which somehow protect him from gunfire and a mask that protects him from his own fear toxin.

Monika: Of course, after repeated exposure to it, he has gained a sort of resistance to his own toxin, but we'll get to that. Also, he has a syringe gauntlet.

Monika: A glove with syringes filled with fear toxin on the fingertip part of the glove. With this he can inject the toxin through stabs or spray his opponent with his fingers. The needles are sharp enough to pierce the batsuit.

Ann: He also has a toxic breath.

Ann: Basically breathing fear toxin onto his opponents, which probably smells pretty bad.

Monika: Oh, but Scarecrow isn't a one-trick pony. Despite common belief, he is pretty skilled in hand to hand combat. He's fought both Batman and Red Robin at once and even developed his own fighting style, Violent Dancing.

Monika: A style he invented which involved a mixture of Crane Kung-Fu and Drunken Boxing.

Ann: And besides a few guns and some knives, Scarecrow has two main weapons. First being his Chainsickle.

Ann: A sharp hook attached to a very long chain.

Monika: Then there's everyone's favorite gardening tool, a scythe.

Monika: A typical tool used for murder that Scarecrow is very skilled at using. This thing is sharp enough to slice through Batman's armor.

Ann: Scarecrow himself is very strong.

Ann: He managed to knock out Catwoman, knocked down Robin, and even overwhelm Nightwing.

Monika: He's also super fast.

Monika: He nearly outran an explosion, constantly kept up with Batman in combat, and somehow put 67 scarecrow's all over Gotham City in one night.

Ann: Plus he's surprisingly durable.

Monika: He can tank hits from Bane, who's strong enough to break concrete and steel. As well as Killer Croc, who can rip human heads with ease.

Ann: But what really makes him scary is his mind.

Ann: Scarecrow is a downright sadistic villain who takes glee in murdering his victims or driving them insane. He's extremely intelligent and manipulative as he sees fear as a fundamental factor of life and something he must control.

Monika: Which makes it quite ironic when you realize he himself lacks fear.

Monika: After using the fear toxin so many times, Scarecrow has developed a lack of fear, basically making him a psychopath. This helps grant him a resistance to his fear toxin as well as an immunity to Joker Venom. He's not even scared when someone as powerful as Supergirl grabs him by the throat.

Ann: Oh, it should also be pointed out that thanks to his lack of fear, it gives Scarecrow some very useful abilities to get in his opponents heads, like mimicking emotions.

Monika: Then there's his transformation, Scarebeast.

Monika: After a result genetic manipulation secretly done by a girl named Linda Friitawa, Scarecrow can now become this monstrous beast whenever he gets under extreme stress or physical strain.

Ann: This transformation increases his strength, speed, durability, and senses to an insane degree. He can fight toe-to-toe with Killer Croc, bust through walls, and punch through a human body like it were wet tissue paper.

Monika: In this form, Scarecrow can tank bullets and explosions. He's also constantly releasing fear toxin through his body, meaning the closer he gets to someone, the more afraid they become.

Ann: Right. But even then, he's not completely invincible.

Ann: Scarecrow is still human, and can be killed with enough damage. He's also can lose his Scarebeast form if knocked unconscious.

Monika: Plus, those who have had repeated exposure to toxins can resist his fear toxin. Like Joker, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy.

Ann: Still, Scarecrow isn't one you should mess with. And there's nothing you can do to intimidate him as he fears nothing... nothing... except Batman.

Scarecrow: How many more bones would you crush? How many lives will you destroy in pursuit of what you call justice? You are the product of everything you fear... Violence, Darkness, Helplessness... All that remains is for you to watch as I drag your beloved Gotham into oblivion.
