Recommendation: The Seventh Realm Trilogy

Completed (all three books)

Remember how I did a gushing review on nightwraith17's The Book of Secrets back in April? Did you read it yet? No? What a shame. If you had read it, you might have even finished the next two books by now, and you'd be able to read this review Spoiler Home Free.

Don't worry, I do avoid major spoilers in this. Still. Why are you even hesitating. Go read the book. The bookS.

I have waxed quite eloquent on the quirky, whimsical world of the Seventh Realm and The Book of Secrets. But here's your first, and pretty self-evident, spoiler: it can't stay happy forever. The end of TBOS dips into some gritty agony that we only plumb the depths of in book three.

Book two is called Warden of the West March, and the titular character, whose given name is Elowyn, is the overarching figure of the story. Dealing with tragedy and a flat-out ridiculous arranged marriage, not to mention that the Book of Secrets has disappeared, and a group of revolutionaries called Storm Kings are wreaking havoc on the country of Glennerdells-- well, let's just say Elowyn is dealing with a lot. She ends up with our beloved Draven family, whom we and she met in the last book. Which is just fine with a certain Gabriel Draven.

I shamelessly ship Gabwyn.

The characters really rock it in this book. We get to delve into them deeper than in the first book, watching them shift and change a bit, peeling back layers and layers of who they are. You come out of TBOS loving the characters. You come out of WOTWM loving them even more. Darius, gruff and tough and gentle as a baby. Dale -- now, there isn't anything more to discover about ordinary Dale, was there? OH WAIT THERE IS? -- Shh, you saw nothing, go read the books. Elowyn, hurting and courageous and full of tenacity and a solid sense of humor. Gabriel, crushing too hard, still scared and confused and just a little older than he was before. More faces that were vague before take on color and solidify, and become characters to be loved. Ross, Ronan, Winter, Madge. Oh, and remember Patch and Hollis? That duo goes on to do grand things. Grand, marvelous things.

I could go on and on. I'll spare you.

Oh, and don't forget, Brim is still lurking around. In fact, mystery, whether surrounding Brim or anything else, is just everywhere.

With a slimy character named Sortilego who's just made to be hated, a secret resistance, and an actual, hilarious marriage that is even more ridiculous than the arranged marriage was -- this is an adventure too good to miss.

And then it ends -- with a bang even bigger than The Book of Secrets -- and everything goes up in flames. War is on. Death becomes a familiar sight as we ease into Third Winter's War.

I cannot tell you how many times my heart was broken in that book. It was too many to count. Sometimes it was broken only for me to sew up the hole again with trembling fingers and scream at a callous Nightwraith for pulling the wool over my eyes.

One word of counsel here, from a Survivor. Never trust a Nightwraith.

Third Winter's War is a story following the characters whom we've loved through two books already. It's a story of war and loss. Of the people on the front lines, and the helpless civilians who take the brunt on both sides. Of love and healing and sacrifice. Of redemption.

It is the best kind of book.

Read these books. They are worth your time. I want them to bring as much joy to you as they have me.

Go immerse yourself in the whimsical, torn, wild world of the Seventh Realm.

Editorial note as of 1/29/19: The Book of Secrets is no longer on Wattpad. It has been accepted by a publishing company and will be releasing August 15, 2019. The rest of the series has also been removed as well, which means it's going to be a little bit harder to immerse yourself in that whimsical, torn, wild world -- but do it anyway. It'll be worth the wait. For further details contact Night herself, and make sure you don't miss out on this amazing book, which I recommend with more fervor than ever before!
