BeLikeSnow14 Presents: How to Talk to Your Crush
Hey Everyone, my name is Amber and this is my first ever Wattpad Block Party! First of all, I'd like to thank KellyAnneBlount for this amazing opportunity. I've been dreaming about this day for a long time and now it is finally here!
Everyone else is doing posts on writing and giving amazing writing tips but I thought that I should introduce my writing style to you guys.
This is a one shot for two new characters. One of them is a leading character in my new book 'Opinionated' right here on Wattpad. Check it out if you guys have a chance. Without further ado:
How to talk to your crush: 10 easy steps.
"I mean, it was in a Cosmo magazine, so it has to be true." Lola Menendez said to her best friend and brother, Javier.
Javier shook his head at his little sister's antics but he was used to it long enough for him to not judge her. The Menendez siblings were at their local Starbucks, seated on a two seater couch. It wasn't unusual for them to hang out together. They basically did everything together and enjoyed each other's company.
Lola pointed with her finger to the sentence in the magazine, "Step one: Look and feel confident."
Javier nodded his head and smiled at Lola, "Okay, how are you gonna do that, genius?"
Lola rolled her eyes at her brother, "I can be confident." Lola stood from her seat and straightened out her sunny, summer dress.
"What are you doing?" Javier asked as his sister scanned the Cosmopolitan over again and nodded her head.
"I'm going in for the kill." Javier rolled his eyes.
Lola left her brother at their seat and slowly walked towards the line, waiting to order her coffee. She wasn't shy, she was nervous. The line slowly started moving to the front, where the barista, Gomez, stood.
Step Two: Go up to your crush casually.
I can do that, Lola thought to herself. Giving herself a mental pep talk in her head, she finally reached the front counter and took a deep breath before opening her mouth.
"Hey," She said. Gomez looked up from the computer screen in front of him and smiled at Lola.
"Hi." He said. He was wearing a black t-shirt, that had the Starbucks logo embedded and a green apron on.
"Can I have a venti espresso intenso?" She ordered, confidently. That counts in the eyes of Lolita Menendez. Gomez nodded his head and grabbed a cup from beneath the counter. He took a black sharpie out of his breast pocket and stared back at her in anticipation.
Step Three: Introduce yourself.
"Lola Menedez." She said as he wrote her name on the cup. So far, so good. Lola stared back at Javier and gave him two thumbs up, accompanied with a big smile.
Gomez turned his back to Lola and began to make her order. She began to make her way towards her brother again but was stopped by a deep, husky voice.
"This won't take that long, you can stay." He said when as he looked at her from the corner of his right eye. A small smile played on her pink, full lips but she controlled herself.
"Oh no, I don't want to hold the line up." Lola began interrupting but was silenced when Gomez turned back around, with her drink in hand, and looked behind her.
"Yeah, I don't think that'll be a problem." He said and let out a small chuckle. Lola turned around and true to his words, there was not one single person behind.
You are the only single person here, she sadly thought to herself.
Turning back around, Lola found Gomez leaning forward, against the counter, smiling at her. It was that exact same smile that helped flourish this ridiculous crush of her. But nevertheless, she welcomed it whenever she got the chance. It was a little early in the morning but Javier liked to get coffee at eight before starting his day. Whether that meant showing up to school late or not showing at all.
Step Four: Be kind to him/her.
Lola smiled back and said, "Okay," she squinted her eyes and pretended to read his name tag, "Gomez." He flashed her his pearly whites and straightened up.
"Really, Lola?" He asked.
"What?" He shook his head at the utterly confused girl but answered her question nonetheless.
"You're really going to pretend that you didn't know my name?" He questioned with a cheeky smile that resulted in him putting his dimples on full display.
Step Five: Compliment your crush.
She scoffed loudly and rolled her eyes, while leaning against the counter and closer to him. Gomez followed suit and put his face in front of hers.
"You have a nice face," she blabbered dreamily, while staring into his green eyes. Her friends always referred to him as 'The Green Eyed Papi' and she agreed wholeheartedly. His dyed blonde hair fell to the front, slightly covering his left eye.
An amused eyebrow was raised, "I meant, you have a nice name!" Lola frantically said out of embarrassment and placed her forehead on the countertop while Gomez burst out laughing. The customers near them, turned to see what all the commotion was about.
"Thank you," he said after he sobered up. Lolita shyly lifted her head and peaked through her fingers at Gomez.
Step Six: Be Yourself.
"Can I get my coffee now?" She asked, looking anywhere but him. The painting on the walls are way too deep for Starbucks, she thought to herself.
Gomez shook his head, not that she could see but still, "I will but I have this thing where I love to look people in the eye when I'm giving them their daily fix of caffeine."
Javier burst out laughing, startling both Lola and Gomez. The elder sibling had moved closer to the pair, so that he could eavesdrop on their conversation. Lolita was his little sister and no matter how much she got on his nerves, he had to know what type of guy Gomez was.
Lola rolled her eyes, "Do you mind?"
"Nah, fam, go ahead." Gomez chuckled but covered it up by letting out a cough when Lola shot him a look. Lola rolled her eyes and turned back to Gomez, forgetting about Javier being annoying.
Step Seven: Make small physical contact.
Lola reached for he espresso but Gomez beat her too it, resulting in his hand touching hers. They both looked up and smiled at each other before he took the cup from her.
"It's probably cold by now," Gomez said and took a new cup, "I'll make you a new one." He turned his back to her once again. Lola took this opportunity to cradle her hand to her chest, the same hand that touched Gomez's.
"How old are you?" Lola asked, trying to make small conversation, shifting from foot to foot. She didn't socialize much with other human beings. They were too needy and too obnoxious, she didn't have the time or energy to entertain them.
Gomez turned back to Lola and said, "I'm 18. What about you?"
"17." The silence that followed wasn't awkward but in fact, comfortable. Gomez grabbed the sharpie again and began writing.
Step Eight: Find a way to stay in touch.
"I actually have to go, class starts in about twenty-four minutes." Lola let put an awkward little laugh.
Gomez looked up, "What about your espresso intenso?" He asked and held up the cup.
Lola shrugged, "To be honest, I hate bitter coffee."
The young man let out a small laugh and shook his head, "I know, which is why I made you a grande latte. One third soy milk, one third skin milk, one third 2% milk, no foam, extra hot. Just the way you like it." Gomez said with a smirk on his face.
"Complicated."
Lola, on the other hand, was shocked to the core, so much that she felt like tearing up.
"You know my regular?" Lola asked.
Gomez scratched the back of his neck, nervously and let an awkward smile, "Yeah.
He handed her the cup, which she grateful took.
She looked at the handwriting and noticed something, "This isn't my name." She pointed out.
"Yeah, it's my number." Lola couldn't contain herself any more and let a little squeal before composing herself. She brushed a few loose strands of her hair behind her ear.
Step Nine: Remember that he is human.
Lolita Menendez had always thought that Gomez Gonzalez was the most confident guy she knew. She never thought that he could be nervous or a little romantic. He always had a rock hard exterior, walls built so high but deep down, he was actually a softie. One could easily tell the Gomez wore his heart on his sleeve, just by the small conversation they just had.
Step Ten: End the conversation/find a casual way to leave.
"Okay," Lola said, "I'll give you a call and maybe we can hang out later?"
Gomez nodded eagerly before smiling at Lola. Javier rolled his eyes at the puppy love being displayed in front of him. It was not that he was jealous, he was just salty because his sister gets all the cute guys, while he's stuck with Richie Malloy from gym. Javier grabbed the Cosmopolitan from this lap and scanned over the article. If it helped Lola, it could certainly help him.
Lola came back, not only a minute later.
"You good?" Javier asked his little sister, skeptically.
Lola just nodded her head, "I'm good. Let's go."
