Kimberley S B Lieb – Newbie to Ambassador

In case our paths haven't crossed yet, let me introduce myself. My name is Kimberley (pleased to meet you) and I am a single mum. My teenage daughter is hurtling towards her prom (help credit card bashing!) and I live just outside London in a suburb of the UK. I am 51 young, with a tendency to be quirky but it beats being boring, I say!

By day I am a PA and at night when not writing, I turn my hand to most things, whether it be cooking, sewing, painting, sorting drains or building stuff! I'm a practical gal!

I have a long-term partner who is supportive of my writing and has been building his narrow boat for a many a year, which I call "the large man cave on water". It's hard to identify physical progress amongst the tools; although I am assured there has been electrical wiring improvements, which is not obvious.

Someone Hiding in the Shadows is my first full length novel I have completed (currently editing) and is the first book in the series of four.

I am also a Wattpad Ambassador and attended my first convention in December 2016 in London, which was an amazing experience to meet such lovely people in person and put voices and faces to the profiles I already knew on the site.

I am working on two writing projects at the moment, my book two of Someone Hiding in the Shadows and also co-writing a horror novel with the talented featured writer Heather Coyle @h_coyle. Hopefully, @KellyAnneBlount will give me some pointers; given this is her specialist bag. Someone Hiding in the Shadows – deleted chapter

I deleted the chapter Revelation Part 4 and feel it was the right move to make, after discussing with fellow writer @linahanson who has been so supportive with her comments alongside @Monrosey, @hrb264, @DawnStarling and @h_coyle to name but a few. It was considered that this chapter slowed the story and was a distraction. Let me know what you think.

My Writing Goals

I am kindly asking readers and fellow writers support:-

I am aiming for 5k followers within 3 years but I want real followers who I can connect to, grow as a writer and chat to. I don't just want invisible people following me.

At the time of preparing this in January 2017, I am currently at 14.5k reads on my book "Someone Hiding in the Shadows". I am regularly in the thriller charts with this book. I am aiming for 1 million (not sure where that figure came from really) but the hope is that if I have a bigger profile on Wattpad publishers will notice my book more. I have been writing regularly for only a year and a half. I am editing my first main book and starting on the next one. I have outlined 4 books in the series. I hope my readers new and old will support me in my endeavours as I travel on my writing journey.

I am determined to improve and learn as a writer and I see critique and helpful comments as being a good way of editing my book and growing as a writer. I don't think I would have learnt as much without the wonderful people on Wattpad giving me so much great and useful advice.

Also being part of the Next Big Recognition run by @DawnStarling has spotlighted my book twice and assisted me in the editing process as well as forging enduring friendships through my involvement.

One of things that is so wonderful about Wattpad is how accessible writers are and how willing they are to share their advice.

I would like to thank all the talented writers who have so far encouraged me throughout my journey and put up with my numerous questions many times, you guys are the best.

I get emotional when I think how wonderful the people are on this site and how protective I feel of Wattpad. This is why I love being an Ambassador as it promotes the core values of the site. Many thanks for Gav @TheOrangutan, @Shimaira and Julie @jewel1307 who always are so calm, laid back and hand out great advice on various topics. Wattpad's uniqueness is a lot to do with people like them.

Once fully edited I intend to ask for my main book to be featured. I want my book to be more polished and be proud of the finished result, so watch this space.

Friend or Foe

GABE

It seemed only yesterday, that I was everything she needed apart from her parents. Even when they were around, I could tell she preferred my company to them.

I remembered the first time she opened her eyes and realised I was there; I knew she was different to the others. Sitting there in her cot, she felt my presence almost immediately and the more she was drawn to me, the more I grew stronger.

I fed on her fears and insecurities, I was the one that kept the monsters at bay by protecting her; I was the one Sophie felt she could always rely on.

It wasn't my first choice in life to be a babysitter but I hadn't been left many choices, banished within the constrains of this house, I was left roaming the decaying empty walls for decades, growing weaker until they rebuilt it into a comfortable home and came to live here.

Now I sensed my time was running out, every day I felt my power diminishing like the sands in an egg timer the grains were disappearing until there would be nothing left and I would be just an echo in the wind from a bygone age.

SOPHIE

"Do you remember when you were little Sophie, you always had your special friend with you? Ribbed Jed

I smiled uneasily, he was real, I didn't imagine him but I couldn't lose face and admit that.

"Whatcha call him?" Jed teased.

I blurted out his name before I could stop myself.

"Gabe, his name is Gabe." I said, wishing I could take back my terrible mistake, as I let the curtain of my long brown fringe that framed my face, try to conceal my expression, as I nervously chewed on my left pigtail.

"Is" Shouted Jed "Surely you should be saying 'was'!" He leered at me, so I was forced to look at him through my dark eyelashes.

I shivered and felt the coldness of fear envelope me as I dug my hands deep into the pockets of my dungarees, as it oddly comforted me.

What had made me want to go to the park today of all days? I should have known better; if only I could turn back the clock.

Jed's face sneered at me and his eyes narrowed, as the pupils turned black and large as he stared at me menacing; I followed his every move as his left foot stepped forward and his right hand reached for the cricket bat.

I ran as fast as my converse sneakers would carry me away from Jed.

I hadn't gone far when In slow motion, I felt myself falling, as I tripped over a stray white lace hanging from my sneakers, as I hit the side of a fast passing Silver Mercedes convertible car. Somewhere I heard laughter turn into screams, as I flew through the air and landed with a bump on the floor. I was helpless unable to move, as I sensed many people around me and I felt my body immerse itself with terrible racking pain as I started to drift into a dream -like state and then I could remember no more.

GABE

Eventually, the men in white coats brought Sophie back home. A shadow of the girl I knew was linked to various machines. From the murmurs I heard, I surmised that her time was short.

My flicker was further diminishing and I felt so weak now, as I hovered erratically by the side of her bed.

Sophie was the only one I had felt a connection to for a very long time and her life was ebbing away from her and all I could do is watch her die as my I faded away too.

Her lashes fluttered erratically and I glided softly in front of her. Sophie's eyes slowly opened and recognition filled her face. A smile filled Sophie's face, as she caught the warmth from my glow and put her arms out to clasp me tightly.

At that moment, I drew him in so fast, that I absorbed Gabe without hesitation, his light energy though small was enough to fully regenerate me, as he evaporated within moments into my inner core.

I may appear a child but looks are deceiving and there is more to me than meets the eye.

I begged them to bring me home not to die but to live. Now I will.
