Paraeeks Presents: The Step Mother
The Step Mother
YA Novel
By Joe Horton
Cindy's eyes were glued to her phone, waiting for blizzard of replies from her stepmother or father. Waiting to get grounded for sneaking out of the house as the loud rock music plays and the fans roaring at her favorite rock band, Panic! At The Disco in the background. She took her eyes off her phone and stared at her tipsy friend, Annabelle hitting on older guys and in her short black dress and high heels. Cindy and Annabelle shared an immersed of Panic! At The Disco, obsessing with them since the seventh grade.
Within minutes, Cindy's phone lit up and messages from her stepsister came through. Text messages such as yelling and worrying, not the worrying Cindy was hoping to see. "I'm at a concert with Annabelle. I'll be home in an hour or tomorrow" she texted, pressing send as if it was no big deal. "It was Helga. Wondering where I was," she said. Her tone remained emotionless, she knew Helga wouldn't tell unless she do Helga's chores. She shifted in the chair, listening to her band playing her favorite song, Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time.
She shifted uncomfortable with her legs crossed at the ankles, she didn't know what would happen when she gets home. If she would be doing chores or locked in her bedroom. Her gaze dropped at Annabelle, when she started making out with Josh, senior football player. "I'm not going to ask how you brought those bottles of Bloody Mary into the concert without getting caught," she said, staring down onto the stage. Watching every single move they made as Panic! At The Disco sing.
Annabelle raised an eyebrow. "You just need to know where to hide it at and you be all good."
"I suppose you're right about that and beside I couldn't make it that possible to hide it," Cindy said, leaning back intently. Her eyebrows drawn back together, she knew it was possible for Annabelle not get caught with a bottle of Bloody Mary. Her phone lit up with another message from Helga.
"What do you want me to tell her?" Helga texted.
"Shit," she swore softly under her breath. "Just tell her I'm spending the night with Annabelle" Cindy replied back, watching Annabelle taking another shot of Bloody Mary and sitting in the senior football player's lap. "Josh, why don't you go get us another bottle of Bloody Mary from your truck. I need a talk with Annabelle," she said, placing her hands at her hips.
Josh nodded. "But you don't even drink."
"I'm bloody virgin Mary and that I will get chew out if I come home drunk as a psychopathy stabbing an innocent person," Cindy said, watching Josh walk away to get another bottle of Bloody Mary. "You are fiddling with that poor football player mind, making him thinks you like him of his personality."
" I can't help it when I wants to get inside boys' pants and them wanting my cherry lips," Annabelle chuckled, taking her fingers and brushing her jet black locks out her narrow eyes.
