beautlies Presents: Baby Keeper Bonus Chapter
Hey everyone! This is my first time in Wattpad Block Party and I'm so honored to be the part of this community. I've been thinking about what to post and I thought, why not post a Baby Keeper bonus chapter for my sweeties?
For whom haven't heard of me or Baby Keeper before, it's a book about a babysitter falling in love with the baby's father – I know it sounds pretty cliche but I have my own twists to it. ;)
AND WHO HAS READ IT BEFORE AND IS HERE FOR THE BONUS CHAPTER:
Hope you enjoy my entry! Thanks for checking this out and votes/comments are always appreciated! x
KASEY: THE GRADUATION CEREMONY
Kasey was finally graduating from her university.
Her senior year couldn't pass slower, with lots of assignments and internships, and less and less spare time to spend with Jian and Carl. It literally drove her mad not to be able to see them as often as she'd like to. Jian was understanding though, supporting her all the way and telling her that things would settle down soon and it was a good thrill in life. It happened as he said; today was the end of the thrill.
Three friends, Tess, Hazel and she, gathered to dress up and get some support. Hazel was the least excited among them, telling them about how it was going to be so empty after graduation and how she wasn't sure what to do next. That was a problem for each, feeling like they were thrown into life without a route and they had to find a ship to sail. But Kasey was glad to be done with because it meant more time for her family—including those boys that stole her heart.
"Jason said he isn't gonna make it," Tess told them as she was straightening Kasey's hair. There was a hint of disappointment in her voice. "Today isn't any day, I'm graduating. I think he could take a day off from work."
Hazel was busy with picking up the right dress. She was still unsure if she should wear a soft blue or dark green one. Kasey was leaning toward the soft blue one but Tess chose the latter; thus, they were no help. "I'd probably make a fuss about it if Chris said so." Sighing, she turned to them. "I'm going with green."
"I don't wanna complain because things had been wonderful lately. I'm scared to shatter that. I didn't expect him not to attend at all."
"Knowing Jason," Kasey joined them. "I know he would be there for you if he could. He probably couldn't take a day off." When Tess was done with her hair, she glanced at herself in the mirror. Her hair looked fine, now off to makeup.
"Kasey, you're always the optimist," Tess scoffed. "I wonder how you'd react if Jian didn't make it."
"We didn't talk," she admitted. "I mean, we talk but I didn't ask him if he's coming. He knows my graduation is today—I didn't invite him specifically."
"Wait, really?" Hazel asked in disbelief. Kasey's answer was a shrug while she picked her foundation from the makeup bag. "You already act like a married couple, Kase."
"I don't see a point in pressuring him about it. He knows the date and he would come if he cares, right?" Kasey said, applying the liquid onto her face. "I know he'll show up though. He wouldn't miss it."
"You two make me wanna call Jas and yell at him." Kasey and Hazel laughed at that and their laughter only grew louder when Tess pouted at them, fixing her own hair.
"Stop complaining about boyfriends," Kasey said, at last, making the last touch to her makeup. "We are graduating."
"Shit, we do."
"Yeah."
Next, her friends hugged her with high-pitched screams and she had to push them immediately. "You will ruin my makeup. Save your enthusiasm for later." But she was smiling at them nonetheless.
Starting from today, she was stepping into a new stage of life and she couldn't wait.
When they arrived at the yard, there was an hour left and it was already crowded with dozens of students and their families. Kasey looked for familiar faces and her face shone when she spotted her parents seated on front seats, Kevin between them talking and asking many questions. Excusing herself from her friends, she walked to them.
"Kasey," Kevin was the first to notice her. "You look...different."
Lightly smacking his head, Kasey pulled him for a hug and whispered, "I think you meant beautiful Kev." After she broke the hug, she turned her attention to her parents who seemed to be in awe. "Dad, Mom. When did you guys arrive?"
"Been fifteen minutes," her mother answered with a smile. "You look amazing, honey." She sat down between them, taking Kevin's seat and hugged them both with open arms.
"Dad, I'm glad you could make it," she said and she really meant it. She didn't ask her mother about it before because a negative response would hurt her. However, he was here, making time for her and this was the thing that mattered. She just neglected them a lot this year and especially she hadn't seen her father in so long. Kevin was always complaining about how she wasn't there. They never voiced it out but she knew they didn't want her to move in with Jian—not because they didn't like him but they wanted her with them.
"Of course," he replied. "What a father am I if I'll miss my only daughter's graduation?"
Touched by his words, she felt her eyes water and buried her face down in his chest, temporarily forgetting about her makeup. "Daddy," she murmured. "I love you."
"We love you, too," he said, stroking her arm. She was blessed to have a supportive and amazing family like them. They remained like that for a while, her mother looking at her and her father with a loving look, Kevin looking around with his usual curious stare, in pursuit of finding something interesting.
In the background, Kasey heard a familiar voice and pivoted her head in the direction to see Matt and his fiance greeting Tess. A smile flashed over her face and her mind went back to the day she found the necklace. It had been such a long time but she still remembered it fresh. She was trying to find something about Jian Li, the mysterious man that just entered her life. Her mother's voice jolted her awake, the feeling of nostalgia lurking in her heart. "Barbara!"
Seeing her aunt walking toward them hand in hand with her husband unraveled the longing she'd felt—she hadn't seen her in a year. In an abrupt decision, her aunt decided to move in Istanbul with her husband. His job was settled there and she was ready to set off. Kasey stood up to her feet, starting to walk toward her aunt. She noticed she had lost weight over time and she looked even better, sort of tanned. They met in the middle, hugging each other wordlessly. Nestled in her aunt's arms, she didn't need words to explain how thankful she was to see them there. Next, she shook the husband's hand and thanked them for coming verbally.
Her mother announced that fifteen minutes left when Tess called for her in the crowd. She passed by a crowd of people to finally reach her friend and stunned when she saw Jason by her side. "Hey, you made it," she said cheerfully, sparing a gaze at her friend.
Tess was the one that answered, "Yeah, he was apparently fooling me."
Suddenly, she remembered something: Jian wasn't present and only fifteen minutes left. Disappointment filled her heart at the thought but she tried to think that he would show up—he was probably dealing with Carl.
"Matt was looking for you," Tess said, gaining her attention back. Her friend looked around searchingly until her eyes stopped at a certain point. "Oh, he's over there."
Nodding, Kasey followed her gaze and headed there. "You've been looking for me, huh?" She said, touching his back and catching him by surprise.
Spinning around, he flashed her a wide grin. "Finally, my favorite doll." When he swung his arm around her, she turned to his fiance and said, "How do you stand him, Janie?"
"I ask Jian the same question." He earned an elbow in the gut for saying that. "Ouch, Kasey, you're harsh." Janie, on the other hand, was busy with laughing at these two. "Anyway, you look good in your gown, though. Graduation looks good on you."
"Why thank you, Matty." She remembered that Jian wasn't around and there were only five minutes left. What if he didn't make it there? She wouldn't tell him but she would be sad. Not like she graduated every day, right? "Did you talk to Jian?"
"Nope," Matt told her. "Not since yesterday." Defeated, she nodded silently and looked around just in case—maybe he arrived and she didn't see. But no, he wasn't there. Her gaze caught her family sitting in the same spot with laughter. They looked happy and she was glad to make them proud. She didn't graduate with a degree but it didn't matter much in university. Matt suddenly turned her around, saying, "Let me fix your cap." She was sure it looked fine but she still let him do it.
Her back was turned to the stage where she was going to take her diploma. "There, fixed," Matt said with a weird grin—a grin that looked kind of suspicious—and her doubts were answered with the sudden voice coming out of a microphone. She turned back to see Jian standing on the stage. "Kasey."
Dumbfounded, she just stared at him, her mouth agape to talk but no words out.
Jian Li was there, standing in all his glory with a black suit and damn, she was once again falling for him for the umpteenth time. But wait, why was he standing there was the question. "Firstly, I'm really sorry for taking your time before this beautiful event and congratulate all of you. I'll just make it quick.
"Two years ago, here, my whole life changed. Graduation itself is a life-changing experience but mine was slightly different. Not going into details there." He wiped his forehead off with his hand. "I should have made some practice. Anyway." His eyes locked with hers and she forgot how to breathe—she had no idea where this was going but it was unsettling her. "I want to change your life. Today."
"Is he talking to me?" She whispered, knowing that Matt could hear her.
"No, probably me," Matt replied.
"Kasey, can you come over here?"
"Shit," she breathed. "He said my name."
"He wants you there," Matt whispered to her, "go." She felt a little push on her back that fueled her to move forward and manage to make it on the stage. She looked around there, seeing the looks on her, on him, on them, and feeling her heart pounding against her chest so wildly that it could leave her body any second.
She couldn't meet his gaze but glanced at their hands when he held her. She was trembling in his touch. She wasn't sure if she could hear him right. He suddenly put the microphone back and cupped her face, pulling her forehead against his. Breathing his scent sort of relaxed Kasey and she closed her eyes. "What are you doing?" She whispered at last.
"You look like you'll faint," he said laughingly. "Still beautiful, though."
This small talk made her forget that she was standing on the stage among those people including her family and she focused on the guy before her eyes. "Thought you'll be late."
Retreating, he remained his gaze on her and grabbed the microphone back, shocking her with the following words: "Kasey Whitton, will you complete me?"
Before she could savvy his words, he kneeled on one knee and pulled out a box out of his pocket. A ring. A diamond ring. He is proposing me. "Will you marry me?" He tried again, his eyes holding hope with a hint of doubt.
Kasey jolted with a hand on her leg and looked down to see Carl Li smiling up at her. Kneeling down, she immediately cuddled him. Her heart was still beating so loud but Carl in her arms was helping her to calm down.
Kasey Whitton was getting married to Jian Li. God. This was real. She was getting—
"Kasey," Jian whispered, still on his knee but the look in his eyes got less hopeful gradually. "Please answer. Everyone is watching us and we're keeping them waiting."
Startled, she blinked several times to grasp the reality. She was standing on stage with her boyfriend on his knee, showing her a box and waiting for an answer. She was about to graduate in minutes. She was about to become a fiance in less. Her eyes wandered around the crowd, finding specific people among the sea:
Her family looked happy, proud and excited. Her aunt winked at her while Kevin mouthed yes. Next stop was Tess: looking impatient, urging her to say something—probably yes—and lastly Jian. The man she loved to death and she wanted to spend her life with.
She glanced at Carl and whispered in his ear: "Do you love me, Carl?" The little boy nodded with a toothful grin and she knew what to say.
"Yes," was her answer. "I will marry you."
A kiss sealed the deal, Carl standing between them and the crowd joined their happiness with loud claps.
