How to Start a BookTube Channel
I thought this might be a fun topic for all you writers to enjoy! Many of you know about BookTube already. Many of you do not have a clue on what BookTube is at all.
So what is BookTube exactly?
BookTube is actually something that I really enjoy. It's the side of YouTube that is dedicated to book lovers. Youtubers that talk about their favorite books or ones that they currently reading. They do reviews, show you their book collections, and sometimes even interview cool authors! That my friends is what BookTube is.
There are even many YouTubers that have started book clubs, or formed book buddies. What is known as buddy reading! They read chapters together, then they go over the notes with one another. That does sound like a lot of fun to me if you have time for that sort of thing.
Now BookTubing can also mean book hauls. People love to see others find a good bargain on a book in a store or discover a new read that sounds interesting. They enjoy hearing what other's think about the latest books out there before they decide to go and read them. That is what blogs are about also. But these are just like those blogs - except with people blog talking live to you in person!
One day, I was like "Well, should I start a Book Tube? Would anyone be interested in anything I had to say about reading?" I didn't know - but I knew I read a lot of books. I am always reading something new and am never far without a book on my hand or reading wattpad on my phone or tablet. I decided to start doing booktube on my youtube channel. It has helped me with vlogging and getting comfortable on camera.
Then, I was able to make some friends with other readers and writers on youtube! They found my videos enjoyable and I felt actually proud of my channel. (It is coming to a near 300 subbers!)
If you're just writing on Wattpad, BookTubing can help you on write as well! It can be a place for you to express yourself, your stories and your ideas. To help other writers out there grow, to get to the place where you are at in life. You may even be able to teach someone else something that they did not know! That in itself is the greatest reward!
I love to read. I love to write. So that was how I knew Book Tubing was right for me. And anyone can do it! There's just a few things you need to get started:
1. Think about a channel name. Something catchy and maybe bookish related. It'll help people know what you're channels about.
2. Get a decent profile photo or a logo for your channel something that expresses who you are. You want your channel to grab other people's attention out there. Make your channel say "Hey I have something important to say! Stop by and listen!"
3. Join a facebook YouTuber community group! There are some really great ones out there that'll get you connected to people straight away. It helps to break the ice and get others to see what your channel is about. Free advertising!
Maybe you are just not ready yet to get your face in front of that camera? A lot of people get camera shy. You worry about what others think of how you look out there.
The possibility of millions of people that you don't know stopping by to watch your videos can be a little nerve wrecking. I know, trust me. I still struggle with getting in front of the camera and doing a face-to-face video.
To get me through it, I just show off the book and talk away. Pretend that your best friend is in the room, or that you are on the phone talking to them. Talk away while they listen. Because in the end, that is what you are really doing. Once you post that video out there for the world to see, you're talking to people about the thing you're passionate about - reading.
People like it if they feel you are talking right to them. Like they are getting to know someone who they could be friends with. People like to find others who have hobbies with them.
I do enjoy making videos just in general. I don't just booktube, I also vlog. Vlogging is where you show your everyday life - essentially, a video diary. You can show anything, really. It can be a fun hobby to take up I hit 200 followers this fall just doing that and am getting close to 300!
One time a lady liked my channel and got in contact with me. She asked if I would review her new book. I said sure! She even sent it to me in the mail! We found each other on wattpad as well! Small world huh?
