Editor's Letter

Hey guys! Welcome back to another awesome issue of Wattmag!

I hope you've all been well and had an awesome Halloween. What did you dress up as? What scary movies did you watch? I want to know all about it! I know it only ended yesterday, but my neighbors already have their Christmas lights up. YIKES, excited much? I'm still not ready to let go of Halloween - it's too soon. Put the multi-colored lights away Linda, we've got 2 more months.

Now that it's November, we have a new issue ready for you guys! This month, we're getting pumped for the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which stars our cover model Eddie Redmayne. (Side note: we finally broke the female cover streak!) We're also exploring another topic heavily this month: fanfiction.

I know that fanfiction isn't for everyone. Some find the concept so foreign or odd that they chose to steer clear. Maybe it is a little out of the ordinary. Maybe it comes with a lot of pressure to write things accurately. And maybe the scenarios are so out there and ridiculous that there's no way they'd EVER happen - but that doesn't deny they're fun to read. Plus, there's no harm in imagining! I find it fascinating to see where people's minds can wonder when they take a character or person they like and turn them into an entire story.

My favorite fanfiction? My Immortal. If you're familiar with it, then you totally get a cookie. It's a Harry Potter fanfiction that was literally dubbed "The Worst Fanfiction Ever Written". Seriously. Look it up - I guarantee you'll die laughing. But what amazes me is how the writer was able to take these beloved characters that we all know so well...and completely butcher them. As bad as that fanfic may be, it's still a mesmerizing thought that we have the power to take something already created and expand it even more - whether we do it good or bad is a totally different subject on its own.  It's definitely amazing to see where some people's creativity can take them. I'm strangely in admiration of that poorly written, confusing, gothic HP fic.

Back to Harry Potter, we're exploring that world a little further in this issue thanks to it's new spinoff movie hitting theaters this month. There's no denying that we're extremely excited to return to the wizarding world of Harry Potter to see where it takes us this time. For a lot of us, I think we can say that this universe holds a special place in our hearts.

Other than that, there's a whole range of different content in this issue that will hopefully help inspire you to write something great - or even encourage you to finish a work in progress. It's NaNoWriMo this month, so I know it's a busy time for the writing community. I'm praying for us all.

I hope you all have a fantastic month and enjoy this issue! (We're also looking for new writers to join us! But you'll have to read on to find out more about that)

Till next month,
