POEM: Egyptian Blue

A delicate flower the sun beckons forth

The dearest of bluebells shall rise and sing

A moment in time its beauty shines free

Before death shall take its life from thee

Of all that is vibrant, wholesome and true

Its youth, its innocence and virginity pure

Putting forth stem and slender leaf

It grows and drinks from the dew of grief

A fragrant canopy of Egyptian blue

Revealed to the world in its flash of life

A beauty that holds still the beating heart

But at the last it must fade and finally depart
