BOOK REVIEW: Jeans Jacket

Jeans Jacket by xPureChances

"At school, they were nothing. At midnight, they were lovers. Because one minute after midnight... a rich girl and a boy who came from nothing found something they had in common."

This month I had the pleasure of reading JeansJacket by xPureChances. This book is part of a series she likes to call 'the garment series', and the name does suit the line of books she's produced. JeansJacket was completed back in 2014 and it was also a 2014 Wattys Winner! This book is listed as #155 in Short Stories, but in my heart, it truly takes up first place. xPureChances is a marvelous author who has done something truly unique with her garment series. They are all one large story where each book contains a vital part to understanding the story at all. To truly grasp the full story all books must be read, but they also stand on their own, and this is why she is so talented. Although I recommend it, you don't have to read all of the books to understand the story, but it helps to realize where all of the characters are coming from.

I had the privilege of speaking to xPureChances first hand, and though she wouldn't give her real name out she is definitely one of the most amazing people I've ever met here on Wattpad. Only after speaking with her and having the chance to ask a few questions about her book was I able to dive into a much deeper connection with the work. Since I'm sure some of you would love to hear her thoughts I will be sharing just a few snippets of our conversation together.I asked her a few basic questions which she happily answered without any hesitation of uncertainty. Among those questions, I asked about her inspiration, the difficulty of interlocking all of her stories as one, which character she personally identifies with and why, and the tones/themes she herself had hoped showed through her writing.

When talking with her, this is what she said in response to my questions:

"For Jeans Jacket, the first in the series it had to be more than one thing that inspired me. For one, how society is structured, the differences in it, and how there is not much mixing going on. I try my best to incorporate all of it as much as I can throughout the series. And secondly, I just love to daydream and look at pictures and then I found the cover for Jeans Jacket before I knew the title and everything just came to me on the spot. With tones and themes, I wanted it to be something most people could relate to. Not something that seemed unrealistic and kind of know it was a story. Real issues were attempted to address and hopefully, people understood it and took it in as more as a few words on a page. Not hard at all! I love interlinking stories, where characters cross over, where they all intermingle. It's the best thing in writing in my opinion because your consistent readers recognize the characters and the excitement of it are just the best. The only hard thing about it is not to give away too many spoilers, and making sure it makes sense. There are times when things happen in one book but it wouldn't be possible to already have happened in another due to the time frame. It takes me a few minutes every time to keep my head in check with the time. I don't fully identify myself with any of the characters. They are more or fewer snippets of me, each one having one small characteristic of mine. I do this because then I know what the character is feeling because I personally know how it feels/how to act which then makes writing them easier."

This literary work of art truly shows the reality behind romance in the world we know today, and how sometimes even the oddest and cliche moments just aren't always going to have a fairytale ending. Ellie Dawson is what you could refer to as your typical rich girl with a perfect facade but a crumbling life behind closed doors. While Nathaniel Lewis is your heartthrob bad boy with demons even he can't face alone. In a conventional yet stereotypical sort of way the two find each other. This sounds beyond cliche I know, but like I said nothing is as it seems.

These characters go through this path of finding themselves and each other while also accidentally bumping into a romance unforeseen by even the gods above. However, though this book will have you screaming and pulling your hair out as xPureChances strings you along and tugs at your heartstrings in such a way that it leaves you wanting more, the bittersweet conclusion will leave you both satisfied yet distraught at the same time. While reading this book I hadn't expected the unexpected and I also hadn't prepared myself for reality. Though I must say if I had the chance to go back and knowing then what I know now, I'd still choose to click on the book and read every page, Word for Word, and even then it would still speak volumes into the heart.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes bittersweet romance along with not so cliche endings. We would love to hear your thoughts, and if you have a book with a million or more reads you'd like us to review please comment it below or message our Popular Reads Reviewer directly.
