Prompt title: "The Days We Remember "
"Good Morning everyone, today we are here for the reunion party for batch 2010. Enjoy our time together." Mrs. Robin Johnson, the principal of Sky High School, addressed the excited adults who have stepped in their school after 11 years.
"Scarlet you look still the same" complimented James. " Thanks James, but now you are an exact replica of your father with this french beard and spectacles," remarked Scarlet.
Scarlet, James, June, Siya and Rohan were best friends in school for fourteen years but lost contact after the school got over.
Today all 5 of the friends have met after a decade. "Let's sit at the canteen"June suggested.
After chit-chatting for a while and eating their favourite school time snack, the group thought to take a stroll of the school ground.
As they walked through the ground, all memories came alive as each one of them recalled the time they spent in the school ground.
Scarlet recalled," Guys, do you remember how we used to bunk classes and sit on the back stairs of the ground to avoid boring Physics ". All of them smiled remembering the bunking episodes.
At this point Siya felt tired, so she asked everyone if they could sit on the stage located at the right corner of the ground. Everybody then sat on the stage. "Remember during rains, we made paper boats and floated them in this flower bed behind the stage. Our socks and shoes used to get wet, and we roamed bare-footed in the school for the whole day, June recollected.
Everyone laughed at the memory. "Do you remember that day when someone created panic about a fake earthquake and the whole school gathered in the ground?" Siya spoke out happily.
"Yeah that whole day we played in the ground for no apparent reason" Scarlet replied.
"Rohan why don't you share something?"James asked. "Well I have all the same memories that you all have, nothing different" Rohan replied.
Siya felt uneasy and puked. Rohan worriedly took Siya to the medical room of the school, others waited for the duo to return.
Doctor examined Siya and asked her to take rest for some time."Siya you should have not come here today" Rohan spoke out with concern.
"11 years ago on the last say of the school you had asked me to come back stage, I wish I came here that day Siya spoke nonchalantly.
"That was in our destiny, not your fault" Rohan remarked. "No it was my fault, I kept friend zoning you, denying my true feelings for you" Siya spoke with tears.
Siya had married another man 5 years ago. Both were incompatible and soon they got divorced. Siya fell into depression then got Brain Tumor, Rohan on the other became workaholic trying to forget Siya.
"Let's just remember the days we have," Siya remarked. After that, Rohan and Siya didn't leave each other. Both relived their friendship, their lost love, spending time together".
Rohan spilled Siya's ashes in the Ganges. I will live with "The Days We Remember" he thought to himself.

This short story that you wrote is exactly like something I was thinking of when setting the prompt for the Mini Fest! The high-school days that we remember. I loved how you ended the story... I hadn't seen that coming. Those emotions especially... All in all, it was a beautiful piece of writing :)

Prompt: Caption this picture and describe it
By AzmiAzim2006
Caption: Dear Khadija
Dear Khadija,
Hi, how are you? I hope you are fine, Ania became a mother to her second child a few days back, we named her Amy!! We've got another troublesome grand-daughter!! Can you believe that! Time flies so soon..
It feels like yesterday, when our family forced us to click that picture! Those flowers I threw on your face, and the cake you smeared on mine after taking the picture!!
" MAMA!!! Adam is a clown!! " Those sweet little giggles made me stop the punch I was gonna deliver. Oh dear Khadija!
I remember me having anger issues and shouting at you while studying " Ohhh you are so dumb!! I HATE THAT! " and those tears, which came out of your eyes, and your statement " You hate me?! " broke my heart. But I only had anger issues, I wasn't brave.
You remember the very next day when 4 guys almost 3 years older than us, were bullying me? I was scared to death and then your roar came, and my warrior queen saved me by overpowering them. I was filled with pure affection and shock, the girl who cried at just my voice, handled the people I was scared of at ease. I was looking in your eyes, searching for the guilt or at-least fear similar to the one I saw when I was shouting, what I found was true care and strength.
But that warriorism disappeared the minute you saw a cut at my knee. I remember laughing, because the warrior who saved me minutes ago was crying in my arms seeing me hurt! I knew you were the strong one by then.
What are you? Oh dear Khadija!
That was the first time I realised I loved you.. I would have loved you in ways you've least expected, if you didn't went to him.
Time flew by and high school came. PROM precisely all the confident boy, Mr. Perfect vibes faded when I came to ask you to prom. " Go...To... P-P-Prom.. W---with me.. Kh-Khadija, will.. Will you? .... Please? " I asked, and the next thing I knew was your inner lioness jumped on me and ear deafening 1000 yes's and us rolling on the floor hugging each other! Oh dear Khadija!
From cutting professor's beloved moustache, to bunking classes and then not knowing what to do, to me consoling you to stop crying because Zayn Malik has a girlfriend, to you making me control my anger, to hate being teasingly called as couples but loving it inside.... Every second of my life was YOU. Oh dear Khadija!
Converting into Islam, was the only wish I ever had... you helped me get there... I would have done NOTHING without you..
" its alhamdulillah not alhamdubillah! Billa means cat you dumbstruck! " those constant taunts you gave me, just because you knew arabic better than me. " AGHHHHH ADAAAAMMM! YOU BETTER COME DOWN AND READ ZOHR WITH ME OR I AM GIVING YOU ENDGAME SPOILERS!! " those scolds you gave me, because I was too lazy to do the long afternoon prayer! Oh dear Khadija!
That was the second time I realised I loved you.. I would have loved you in ways you've least expected, if you didn't went to him.
" My mother wants a cristian wedding " I said in tears, and I thought you'd give me back my proposed ring on your finger, because Islam was your first love. But what you gave me was a smile. " We'll marry in islamic way, after we do in cristian way, let's do it for your mother's happiness." you said. You did that for my happiness, I knew you loved me, Oh dear Khadija!
That night, just before the wedding, sneaking out of our rooms running to the mountain top and pointing at the stars, you searching for both your parents, me searching for my dad and shredding tears missing them. And then we hugged each other, holding the other like life support... Oh dear Khadija!
Talking the whole night, while people were thinking we're taking our beauty sleep, and then getting scared at 6 am in the morning that we'll sleep through the marriage!
Then. Seeing you in that white gown... looking like an angel coming slowly from heavens, that tough boy who never cried image broke that day. Uncontrollable tears of happiness dropped. You wiped them away, with your petite hand.
" You're supposed to cry! You are going away from home to a new life!!! " shouted your sister. I held your hand, thinking I am taking you away from your loved ones. But you melted my heart by your response. " I am not going away from home, he is my home! " and gave me the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. I was holding an angel's hand, she had worn a white gown and had flowers in her hand. Oh dear Khadija!
That was the third time I realised I loved you.. I would have loved you in ways you've least expected, if you didn't went to him.
That little date, we had just a few years ago. 2 people in their 60's acting like teenagers, leaving their kids at sister's house, on the beach, with my hand wrapped around your waist, dancing slowly to the music of the sea, looking at each other, not thinking someone might be looking... you made me feel complete. Oh dear Khadija!
But then you went to him... and I realized.. I'll love you forever.
Don't worry I pray for you and I promise I am doing all my prayers, promise me one thing, you are closer to him.. Ask him to call me there too! I am 80 now, it's been 15 years since you're gone! Yet it feels like you are here hiding, and will appear out of the blue and scold me to do proper wudu. But you never did. Cause you went to him. Oh dear Khadija!
And I am doing good deeds, and although I am not that strong, I have coped up and I am fighting life. But I can't wait to meet you! I know sooner I will meet you because.. I have the last stage of cancer, just like you did. And a few years here, then I'll come there, to him and to you. And I know you are there, because you deserve that. that pure heaven, just like your soul. Oh dear Khadija!
This was the last letter my grand-father wrote, before he passed away... smiling I putted that in my mother's locker, she treasured this letter. Now I know how much he loved grandma and why he never married another woman...
" Khadija " I said, and everyone looked at me.
" why Khadija Amy? " asked my husband.
" I'm gonna name my second daughter Khadija, my grandfather's beloved wife's name, its his last memory, of his last day.. he remembered me, he remembered my mother and my grandmother.. I want them all to live again. "
And with that, that letter became alive again, Me Amy, my husband Adam, my daughters Ania and Khadija...
The letter, and them is alive again..
🌹Review:
This is totally a winning entry for this Prompt because of how well you've captured every single part of the picture in your writing. I loved your idea, the emotions you conveyed, and especially the use of the sentence 'But you went to him'. At first I thought she went to another lover, but it came as a surprise that she actually went to God, meaning she had passed away. That really got me... The way you wrote about their cute childhood, Islamic to Christian marriage, seeing their parents in stars, and beach date at their 60s did perfect justice to the picture. I would say that you could have chosen some other caption that would fit the picture, but apart from that, everything was just beautiful!
Congratulations to you two once again!
