Chapter Fifty Four

Stunning Sunset at a place called Clachtoll in Scotland. It is such a beautiful place, remote and peaceful. I love it there and can't wait to go back!

The NightShade who holds the sword to Serenity's throat tilts his head in confusion.

"What are you smiling at girl? We have you all surrounded," he says cruelly. A huge crash fills the room and causes the ground to shake. Stone and rubble explodes everywhere, causing the NightShade warriors to release their grips on teachers. Tanya in Dragon form, bursts into the room, the ruble still flying around her as she crashes through the walls. There is a flash of blonde hair flying from the dragon, before a wolf the size of a horse crashes into a NightShade, ripping away at his throat. Tanya lets out a terrifying roar, her mouth pulled back to show her sharp teeth and her eyes narrowed in anger. Some of the NightShades recoil in fear. Serenity, taking advantage of the distraction, swings out and knocks away the Warrior and shifts. He doesn't have enough time to get out of the way before her teeth have clamped around his body and she is throwing him across the room like a rag doll. She lets an angry roar of her own as she attacks. It is carnage in the room. Spells are cast, lighting up and crashing around the room. Now, lots of the teachers have also shifted and are fighting in animal form. The High Queen is terrifying, her cream coloured wolf tears up every NightShade in her path, expertly avoiding their poisoned weapons and their spells. It is chaos. Still, the NightShades seem to be winning. That is until the Elite warriors suddenly appear in the middle of the room, all holding hands with General Xavier at one end and Iona at the other. They don't look disorientated and quickly leap into action. Gone are their joking smiles and playfulness. Instead, their faces are that of determination. Serenity looks at them with awe. She had trained with these people now, but watching them really fight enemies is incredible. The teachers mostly stand back apart from Lord Bear and the other combat teachers. Tanya and Serenity work alongside the elite warriors as the quickly and mercilessly dispatch the NightShades.

"Is everyone okay?" asks the General as he cleans off his sword. There is a chorus of yes' and the High Queen shifts back, looking around the destroyed hall.

"Has anyone been cut with Black Root?" she shouts, looking around worried.

"No!" they shout and she lets out a sigh of relief. There are only minor injuries from spells, no teachers are dead.

"You took your time," The High queen says to the General.

"Well our instructions are to wait for fifteen minutes before teleporting to this room to give the teachers enough time to round them up to this point," he says.

The High Queen takes control of the situation, ordering everyone around to ensure that the hall is all cleaned and everyone is sure that they are clear of Black Root. Tanya and Serenity shift back and wrap each other in hugs.

"We need to get to Isla," Tanya says. They stop when they hear a spluttering sound.

"You're too late," a voice whispers. "There were four groups. One came in ten minutes after us just in case something like this happened." They look at the NightShade warrior who is lying on the floor, a hole in his stomach and blood pooling around him. His mask has slipped off, revealing his face which is also covered in blood.

"If the Dragon whore survived the poison, then she's dead now," he laughs and blood bubbles around his mouth followed by a nasty gurgling sound.

"Isla," Serenity whispers, running out of the room and swiftly followed by Tanya.

"They shouldn't be able to find her, right? The room is hidden?" Tanya asks as they run.

"They've had ten minutes of walking around the halls without interruption. Ten minutes to create any sort of spell to find her. They are only here for her and Toryn, meaning they haven't had any distractions with any other tasks!" Serenity shouts in a panic. Toryn didn't have much left in him and though the healers will have combat training, who knows if it will be able to defend against NightShade magic.

"Stay back," Toryn says to the healers as the wall crumbles. "They'll break at any moment." He stands in front of Isla who still lies in pain. For five minutes, they've been trying to break into the small room and Toryn knows that soon they will succeed. Another bang makes one of the healers scream. The cruel laughs from outside the room fills Toryn with rage.

"Come on, let us in! We're only after the Dragons. We won't hurt you. We just want to put them out of their misery. There is no healing them now!" Toryn growls as fire appears in his palms. His eyes glow like the flames he holds. It is silent for a few seconds before another boom fills the small room and the stone cracks. Again the wall shakes and the stone door crumbles. Toryn screams as he blasts the fire from his hands and strait into those standing behind the door. They scream, clearly taken by surprise. Obviously, they thought that he too had been poisoned and wouldn't be able to use his powers. Big mistake, because they've made him angry and now his fire burns hotter than ever. They are after his sister and there is nothing he wouldn't do to protect her.

"Toryn!" Tanya and Serenity shout at the same time as Toryn drops his flames. The charcoaled bodies lie in a smoking heap beyond the door.

"Are you okay, how is Isla?" Asks Serenity as she runs into the room.

"Not good," he sighs. The three of them look over at her as she moans in pain.

Toryn, Serenity and Tanya all sit on a ledge of the Academy, watching the sunrise. Their skin is bloody and dirty and eyes red from crying. The High queen walks up behind them, pressing a hand softly to Toryn's shoulder. She and the Healers have been with Isla for three hours, trying to stabilise her.

"Isla has slipped into a coma," she tells them. Serenity starts to cry again, leading into Toryn's arm and the High Queen sighs.

"We think she may have a better chance of recovery if she were to be submerged in water. That way, her burns are being soothed and she isn't lying on any injured skin. We also think that may relax her a little."

"That's a good idea," Toryn says and follows her to were Isla lies. She looks like she has already died. Her skin sticks to her bones and is a shade of white green. Dark bags are under her eyes and she is barely breathing.

"The Black Root has torn up her insides. She shouldn't even be alive. The Dragon side of her is saving her right now. Though it may not be strong enough," she sighs.

"The water is a good idea," Toryn says. The High Queen nods. A large tank is brought in.

"No, it needs to be natural," Toryn says. "Are there any pools or waterfalls around here."

"I know just the place."

They walk through the Academy. There is no trace of any sort of attack taking place here, no sign of the secret rooms either. The part of the Academy the Queen and Lady Indira lead them too is a lot older and not as well kept. It is further inside the mountain. The High queen pushes a large stone door open and they walk inside. The polished stone disappears, replaced by a large cavern with a waterfall falling down the middle of it into a clear pool.

"We couldn't build any further into the school because of this cavern," she sighs. Toryn, who is carrying Isla, walks over to the pool. Walking straight into it he places her down on the water. It wraps around her like the water is trying to cocoon her. Wrapping her up to keep her safe. Toryn sighs as he walks out of the pool.

"There will be three elite warriors here at all times. The door is the only way in, so there will be two outside. Another will stay inside also. The only other people allowed in will be the three of you, myself, Lady Indira and the healers. Is that okay?" the High Queen asks. Toryn nods. He is completely shattered and feels like he is too tired to speak.

"We need to address the school," she sighs, "then you can have a break," she smiles. Again, he nods.

The High Queen stands in the Hall which has been completely cleaned and repaired. There is no evidence of where Tanya flew through the wall or any blood on the floor. All the Academy students are gathered.

"As you know, last night the gong went off. It was not a drill," her voice is solemn and the mood is sad. They can see the blood on her nightdress she has not had enough time to change out of. They can see the blood on the three Dragoheirs and they can see a Dragoheir who isn't with them.

"Last Night we were attacked. They were after the Dragoheirs. Queen Isla, has been poisoned. Black Root was placed in her bed whilst she and her siblings were away. It was also placed under Prince Toryn's. It was intended to kill them. It is believed their plans were to ensure the poison had worked and in the commotion, take Princess Serenity and Princess Tanya. Their plan failed. It was thanks to the teachers of this academy, that we lost no students. It was also thanks to the Dragoheirs quick thinking and dedication to their sister that we are all safe. Queen Isla, however, is not so lucky. She is very ill and currently in a coma. Whether she will recover, we are unsure. For now, she is being guarded at all times." The speech goes on, but Toryn can only see one thing.

"You," he says, pointing at Darcy, who has a small smile on her face.

"You placed the poison!" he shouts.

"How could I, I was away in Zola with you the whole time," she snaps. His eyes widen and he roars with anger.

"My sister is dying a slow and agonising death and you are stood there smiling about it!" he yells, his eyes glowing like fire and scales appearing over his skin.

"Toryn, calm down," Serenity says.

"Calm down?" he asks in disbelief. "Isla is dying," his voice cracks and a tear runs down his face. "and she is smiling like it's the best news in the world," his voice is a broken whisper. He snaps out of it, glaring at Darcy again. He growls, his body slowly changing. Everyone notices his eyes focused on Darcy. Iona is quick to react running over to him and teleporting him out to the shifting field. His screams are loud as his muscles stretch and bones break. Tanya and Serenity appear a fear seconds later, running up onto the field along with the High Queen, Lady Indira and some others. Toryn screams and tears run down his face. Soon, it is realised that the screams and tears are not in pain, but that of a brother who is slowly watching his twin die. The great red Dragon lets out a slow long roar, before stretching his wings. The size of his wings makes wind swirl around everyone as he starts to take off. Serenity and Tanya run toward the dragon, shifting to their smaller ones as they do so. The three of them take off, flying up into the sky. As they fly away, Queen Katrina picks up a message from Serenity's mind.

"We aren't shifting back until Isla is out of the clear. Until then, we will be guarding the Academy at all times. No one is getting in to harm our sister."

The High Queen nods her head and takes a breath.

"Back inside," she orders to everyone. "Lessons will resume as normal, we have much to prepare for. For there is much worse on its way." The last part is a quiet whisper, for she can sense that this is only the beginning.
