Y: Coming out
It was another morning in the HQ of the watchers of the multiverse and there wasn't much to say about it as nothing notable happened. Everyone were slowly getting themselves out of bed and preparing themselves for the day, wondering what it had in store for them even if many of them doubted anything notable would happen today due to how quiet the last few weeks were fo them.
S was one of them, having arrived at the kitchen a few minutes ago to get himself something to eat and something to drink. The smell of coffee filled the kitchen as the male watcher leaned against the counter, his fingers tracing the edge of his mug as he waited for his coffee to be prepared. The morning was quiet for him for now, save for the hum of the kettle on the stove and the conversations some of his fellow residents of the HQ were having around him right now.
The most notable conversation was the conversation between J and I as both of them stood the closest to him while J made both of them breakfast. From what he overheard from both of them right now, both of them were talking something about how atrocrious I's ways of making food are and I getting really sheepish at the the way her best friend lectured her. S couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the sound of this conversation, comparing J to Gordon Ramsay in his mind.
The male watcher looked over his shoulder a second later and saw Y and Q having a conversation together, both of them smilling to show they were having fun around each other. Q in her cat sleepwear did a cat gesture to Y, making him chuckle as the two bid each other farewell and Q walked out of the kitchen/dining room to take care of the rest of the business she had planned for today. S carefully observed as Y's smile quickly faded away and turned into a frown.
S shook his head to himself, letting out a sigh as he shifted his attention back to his coffee. He place some sugar in the cup, watching it melt away as he found himself think about Y. He had been distant lately, not in the obvious way, but in the way S had come to recognize after the last few moths of them as the watchers. Y was good at hiding things, hiding his feelings away behind a calm facade. S could tell there was something bothering him, though. His work as the police officer back in his homeworld made him a good and noticing things like this.
The male watcher was pretty much certain of what was bothering Y as well...
He wasn't proud of how easily he'd pieced it together. It wasn't just Y's demeanor or the subtle tension in his body language. It was something deeper, something S could feel because he'd been there himself. It reminded him on the days when he was younger and was slowly discovering himself and who he was as a person. He didn't have to hide it as well. He knew his parents would be more than accepting of who he was.
Bisexual, with a preference for men. That's what he was. It took him years to discover this and admit this to himself, though. At first, he was certain he was gay when he started to grow up and began to discover himself. However, he slowly found out about him having interest in women as well after something happened. Even if his interest in women was smaller than his interest in men and he would have preferred to have a man as his partner.
The male watcher set the spoon down on the counter a second later. Y hadn't told him anything directly, but S didn't need the words to understand. He could see the same quiet turmoil in Y's eyes the more he had known him and the more their friendship had evolved. Especially after S revealed his sexuality to him and him being interested more in men than in women. The way how casual he was about this seemed to suprise Y a lot which he tried to quickly mask. However, his efforts at masking it were in vain as S could notice this.
Something inside of S wanted to wait for Y to come clean about this himself. If there was something he knew about coming out about who you were was that it should happen when you feel comfortable enough to do it. But something else was telling him how Y keeping this to himself might feel like like isolation than support. S remembered how much it meant to him when his parents accepted him for who he was and his partner and best friend at job Loretta accepted and understood this as well.
He knew there must have been another reason to why Y didn't want to talk about this with anyone, though. Whenever the watchers talked about their families back home, he always grew uncomfortable and preferred to keep silent about them. In a similiar way L didn't want to talk about his family with anyone. If S were to guess, there must have been something wrong with Y's family. But he knew he couldn't be certain about this just from this assumption. He needed confirmation.
S kept himself in his thoughts as he sipped his coffee. Y needed a nudge, S would be there. He was certain Q would be there for him as well as after him, she was the watcher Y seemed to hang out the most. Not to force anything, but to remind him that he wasn't alone. He was taken out of his thoughts a second later as Y's arrival at the kitchen got signalled to him by the footsteps. He looked over his shoulder a second later and saw Y stepping into the kitchen.
S turned around to face him fully with a smile on his face, "Morning."
"Good morning to you, too." Y smiled back at him as he pointed at S' coffee, "Did you make some for me?"
"Nope." S playfully replied.
Y placed his hand on his heart, "Wow, so that's how it is? I thought we were friends."
"We're friends. For sure. But coffee over here is something sacred because of my parents." S shook his head, letting out a chuckle and pulling the mug closer to himself to make himself look more dramatic, "You'll have to make your own."
"Fine. If you say so." Y smirked, walking over to the counter to start preparing his own cup of coffee as he glanced at S with a dramatic look on his face, "I'll have to try to suffer in silence after his betrayal from you."
"When you don't suffer in silence?" S teased, taking another sip from his mug.
"Good point." Y nodded in agreement as he grabbed a mug from the cabinet, "Just be careful. Otherwise I might accidentally make you spill your coffee across the floor."
"J would probably kill you if you did it." S pointed out to him as he gestured to J who was still too occupied with lecturing I across the kitchen to pay attention to him and Y.
Y once again glanced over his shoulder at J, "She would probably tear up a lot as well. You heard what happened when I ended up dropping the pan with the food she made for both of them, right?"
"Yeah. I did." S chuckled a bit at the mention of this.
Y leaned against the counter while waiting for his coffee to brew as he looked around the room in front of him, "Things have been real quiet around here ever since R came back from Akame Ga Kill with R, C and Esdeath."
"For you maybe." S replied as he leaned against the counter next to him, "Me and Q can't say that. But mostly Q as she looks like she wants to kill R each morning."
"Yeah. I know. Q likes to complain about this to me." Y chuckled, "Look at the bright side, though. At least she gets to have some sleepovers with B. You've seen the pic of them sleeping together which was taken by E, right?"
S couldn't help himself and chuckled as well, "Yeah. This pic was super adorable. I can picture the embarassment of these two when they woke up and took a look at our group chat. Our messages of how cute they look together must have just embarassed them further."
"You should look at the bright sides of all the crap with S as well." Y pointed out to him with his expression growing a bit playful, "At least you got a chance to stay over at my room for the night a few times."
S blushed at this a bit, "Hey, don't act like you didn't enjoy having me around. Someone had to make sure you didn't stay up all night playing Mario Kart."
"Excuse me, but I think we both know you stayed for as long as I did." Y reminded him with a playful smirk on his face, "I remember you yelling at the screen at two in the morning when I once again defeated you in a race."
Y raised his brow with his smirk refusing to leave his face, "Oh, come on. You know you can't beat me in Mario Kart. I'm practically a legend at this point."
S rolled his eyea and decided to shift the conversation into something else to mess with Y as a way of getting back at him for messing with him about the Mario Kart stuff, "Maybe I wasn't trying to win. Maybe I just wanted an excuse to stay close and keep you company."
"..." Y froze for a split second, his smirk fading away from his face as S raised his brow, expecting to see Y tease him in return like he usually does. His eyes widened a second later, realizing what he just said and felt a mixture of regret and curiosity hit him like a speeding truck as Y nervously told him while trying to appear unbothered, "Uh... well, you didn't have to lose for that, you know.
"Anyway." S replied quickly upon getting the answer from Y, wanting to leave this conversation at that due to how awkward and uncomfortable he made it for Y with his remark. He turned away from his fellow male watcher and placed his now empty mug in the sink, "I should get going. I need to take care of something today and I should leave now because of it. Yeah..."
Y blinked, processing what just happened and gave him a nod, "Oh, yeah, sure. I'll catch you later then."
"Yeah," S replied with a small smile on his face. He turned away from him a second later, feeling his smile fade away as he headed out of the kitchen and out of the dining room towards his new destination. As he walked into the hallway, he sighed to himself, "Great job you, idiot..."
Placing his hands in his pockets, S continued to make his way through the hallway as he left himself with his thoughts. He looked around himself, feeling everything around him hitting him hard as the conversation between him and Y and the way it had ended kept replaying in his mind over and over again. Y's nervous reaction and how he needed a moment before giving him the reply was what mostly replayed in his mind.
The male watcher shook his head, fining himself further in his own thoughts regarding this. Why had he said that? What had he even meant by it? He didn't think he meant anything by it. Did he? The male sighed sadly the more he found himself thinking about this. He felt a wave of guilt hit him a second later. He hadn't meant to make Y uncomfortable. This wasn't his intention at all. He just meant to mess with him for a bit.
The male watcher felt like it added more to Y's own personal struggles as well. The way his friend tensed up when this was brought up just confirmed that to him. If he were to guess, Y must have been freaking out on the inside right now and it made him feel extremely guilty. He must have been scared of how S would react to him as well. Even if S made his own sexuality clear to him.
He arrived at his destination a second later in the form of the door to B's room. If there was one place Q would be at right now, then he knew it would be this place as Q always went here whenever R and her nightly activities with 6O and Esdeath kept both him and Q awake at night. He knocked on the door, waiting for someone to answer him and B's came sounded in his ears a second later with him telling him to come in.
S pushed the door open a second later and was greeted by the view of B, Q and even A2 in this room. He was not suprised to see the android in the room, knowing of how much she was hanging around these two ever since she was first brought in to the HQ. Even if she had a hard time admitting this to them due to how how she is like. The three of them were had eyes on the TV in front of them, watching an anime with B and Q sitting on the bed and A2 sitting on the floor. All three of them shifted their attention to him when he walked into the room.
"Hey, guys..." S greeted them as he stepped into the room.
Q smiled at him, "Hey, S."
"Do you need something?" B asked a second later.
S nodded in confirmation, "Yeah. I need something from Q."
Q raised her brow at him, "What is it, then?"
"Can we talk about this in private?" S asked as he shifted his gaze between B and A2, "It's really important and I don't think the person who I want to talk with you about would appreciate it if we talked about this freely for the others to see."
"Alright. Let's go somewhere private, then." Q kept her bow raised in interest, beginning to suspect what this was all about as she got up from the bed while B paused the anime the two of them have been watching. She shot B and A2 a quick look as she pushed herself into walk to S and smiled at him, "Just try not to watch this show without me, alright?"
B shook his head with a smile on his face, "Wouldn't dream of it."
"It's not like I'm paying attention to this." A2 shrugged her shoulders as Q made her way to S and both of them walked out of B's room together with Q making sure to close the doro behind them. The two stopped in a small distance from the door, knowing they don't have to walk away much as neither B or A2 were the type of people to eavesdrop on other people.
Q stopped in front of him and looked at him with a curious smile on her face, "So. What do you need to talk about? Is it about Y?"
"Is it that obvious?" S asked, letting out a humorless chuckle.
"I saw him heading over to you when I was leaving the dining room and now you want to talk in private about something. It was not hard to deduce this." Q explained to him, keeping her smile on her face when she asked him again, "What do you want talk about him?"
S rubbed the back of his head, "Let's just say I said something to him earlier and I think I might have hit a nerve."
Q looked at him with a mixture of curiosity and concern on her face, "Really? What is it?"
S continued to rub the back of his head as he gave her his explanation, "We were joking around about Mario Kart and nd then I said something like, "Maybe I wasn't trying to win. Maybe I just wanted an excuse to stay close and keep you company.". After this he froze. Like frozen to the point he had to wait a moment before giving me a reply."
Q hummed with a thoughtful look on her face, "Hmm. I see..."
"I see? This is all you have to say?" S raised his brow at her reply, "I think I made him uncomfortable, Q. He looked like he didn't know what to do. I don't think I handled it right."
Q raised her hands in a calming manner to help him calm down, "Let's just calm down. Okay? First of all, you said it was a joke. You didn't mean anything bad by it, right?"
S quickly gave her his answer, "Of course not. I'd never make him feel..."
"Exactly." Q nodded at him, "So, let's focus on what might actually be going on with Y instead of beating yourself up. You think this reaction was about more than just your comment?"
S nodded as he wasted no time when it came to giving her an explanation, "Yeah. I do. There some signs I've been taking notice of more and more as the time went on. The way he tenses up when certain topics are brought up by us, especially anything to do with relationships or family. And then there's the way he acted when I told him about me being bisexual. He seemed almost envious of how casual I could be about this."
"I see. Looks I'm not the only one who noticed this." Q admitted with a thoughtful look on her face, "I've taken notice of this as well. He acted in a similiar way when I told him about myself being a pansexual and brought up some of the women I have a crush on like Mt. Lady or Female Shepard or Charlie from Supernatural. It doesn't take much brain work to realize he is hiding something."
S crossed his arms with his voice hesitating a bit, "Do you think he might be fully gay? Or bisexual at least like me or pansexual like you?"
Q nodded at him with her expression staying the same, "It's possible as I'm certain about this myself. But it's not about whether he is gay or bi or pan. It's about him not feeling comfortable enough to share whatever he's dealing with. And if that's the case, he probably needs people who will be there for him to support him."
"That's what I want to be for him." S responded with his expression showing how unsure he was about everything. He uncrossed his arms and rubbed the back of his head again, "I just don't know how to approach it. I don't want to push him, but I also don't want him to feel like he's alone in this."
Q placed her hand on his shoulder, "You've already at the starting point of this and you know. I mean take a look. You've already noticed there is something bothering him. Now, it's just about making sure he knows he can come to you when he's ready."
S gave her a nod with uncertainity still evident in his tone and his body language, "Yeah. I know. I just don't want to make him feel like I'm pushing him into opening about himself."
"You're not pushing him into this." Q shook her head, "Just keep acting the way you do and show yourself to be someone he can trust. I'm sure the rest will work itself out."
S smiled at her slightly, "Thanks, Q. I needed this conversation."
"No problem." Q smiled back at her, "Now, go easy on him, alright?"
"Yeah. I will." S replied in understanding as began to turn away from her, "I should get going. I'm gonna go try talking with him again now."
"Alright. Good luck." Q wished him luck as S fully turned away from her. Just as he began to make his way down the hallway, the female watcher turned around and made her way back into B's room where she returned to watching the anime with him and A2.
S clenched his hand after parting ways with Q and moving further down the hallway. As he continued to move doen the hallway, he felt himself growing more certain on the inside. He knew he couldn't fix Y's struggles for him, but he could who he needed right now for him. He could be someone who would always be there, no matter what and this is exactly what mattered in the moment.
----
S walked down the hallway, making his way towards Y's room, keeping his hands inside of his pockets as he allowed himself to be left with his thoughts on his way to his destination. He felt himself growing more nervous on the inside as he found himself closer and closer to Y's room. After his conversation with Q, he knew how to talk to with Y. All he had to do was to push him that he was there for him, no matter what.
Upon stopping in front of the door to Y's room, S knew he had arrived at the right place as he could tell someone was inside right now and doubted it would be anyone else but Y right now. He raised his hand a second later and knocked on the door. After getting the answer from Y who gave him his permission to walk into the room, S opened the door to see Y sitting at his desk, headphones around his neck and a notebook in front of him.
Y turned around to face whoever had just entered his room, offering a small smile when he saw who it was, "Oh, hey, S. What's up?"
"I don't really have anything to say." S replied as he waled into the room and closed the door behind him. He leaned against the wall a second later, hesitating a bit before bringing up why he came here to check on Y in the first place, "I just wanted to check on you to see how you are doing. You seemed a bit off earlier."
Y raised his brow, leaning back in his chair, "Off? I don't know what you mean."
S smiled at him slightly, "Come on. You know you don't need to play dumb with me. I'm a police officer. Remember? I take notice stuff like this pretty easily."
"Yeah. You're right." Y gave him a humorless laugh, "I'm fine, though. There's nothing to check here."
"Y..." S began to say with his voice showing a mixture of softness and firmess as Y raised his brow at the way S spoke to him right now, "You don't have to tell me anything if you're not ready. But if there's something weighing on you, I just want you to know that you can talk to me. No judgment, no pressure."
Y froze slightly with his hands starting to grip the sides of his notebook. Upon pushing himself out his silent state, he voiced his reply to S with his tone being unkind and defensive at the same time, "What makes you think there's something I'm not saying?"
"Just call it a detective's haunch." S gave him his reply as he pulled away from the wall and made his way to Y's bed to take a seat on it. He set his eyes on Y again when he went further into what he had to say to him, "Or maybe it's because I've been there before. I know what it's like to keep something inside because you're afraid of how people might react."
Y blinked at him, "What are you talking about?"
S stayed silent for a moment, thinking on how to put his thoughts into words the right way and pushed himself out of his silent state once he knew he was ready, "I'm just telling you I know how hard it be can for you to accept who you are and I know how scary it is to think how the other people might react to this. Look, I don't want to make this awkward or put you on the spot. But I've noticed things, Y and I'm not the only one as Q noticed them as well. And if I'm wrong, you can tell me to shut up, and we can forget this conversation ever happened."
Y didn't gave him the answer straight away, leaving his grip on his notebook tight. S rubbed the back of his head as the silence from Y continued to stay silent, beginning to regret starting this conversation with Y. He knew it was something which had to be started one way or another and he held Y himself how they can end this conversation and forgot it ever happened if he didn't want to talk about this with him.
When Y finally spoke to S again, his voice was quiet and S could tell his friend was nervous, "...What things have you noticed?"
S smiled gently at him as he gave him his answer, "A few reactions from you when we hung out. Like how you tensed up when I joked about staying close to you during Mario Kart. Or how you reacted when I told you I'm into guys. I don't want to assume anything, but I just felt there was something off and I wanted to address this as it made a bit worried."
Y's hands slowly began to tremble as he placed his notebook on his lap, "You really think you know me that well, huh?"
"No. I don't. I've known you for less than a year, after all." S shook his head, "But I know enough to see when someone's struggling with something and I just I want to make sure you know you're not alone hee."
Y didn't gave him the answer straight away, leaving the room in a complete silence again. S crossed his arms, feeling himself growing nervous and awkward again as the thoughts of regret regarding starting this conversation began to show up in his mind again. He began to worry if he had gone too far as well as Y stayed silent for a bit longer this time, leaving the male watcher even more worried in the process.
His eyes widened a second later as Y let out a shaky breath with his eyes watering up, "You're not wrong. I've been trying to keep it together, but it's been eating me alive."
"Take your time." S gently told him as he got up from the bed and walked over to Y. He placed his hand on his shoulder and looked down at him, "I'm here."
Y gave him a nod, swallowing his saliva as he voiced what he had to say to him, "I'm gay. I've known for long time. Since I was fourteen so about half of my life."
S squeezed his shoulder gently and looked at him with a supportive and proud smile on his face, "Y. Thank you for telling me and for what it's worth, nothing's going to change between us. You're still my friend, and I'm proud of you for being honest about this."
Y wiped at his eyes, a small, relieved smile breaking through his nerves. "You mean that?"
"Of course." S reassured him, "What about the others?"
Y raised his brow, "The others?"
"Yeah." S nodded at him as he pulled his hand away from Y's shoulder, "Will you tell them about this too?"
Y shook his head, "No way. Maybe I'll tell Q, but no one else. I'm afraid of their reaction."
S raised his brow, "Why?"
Y sighed, "I don't know how they'll take it..."
"Y. They will take it just fine." S reassured him, "You saw it yourself how they are like with R who didn't hide that she is a lesbian since day one. "
"It still doesn't make me any less nervous..." Y crossed his arms, letting out another sigh, "...After I came out to my family when I was a teen, I'm afraid of doing this again to people. Unlike you, I didn't have a family who supported it and accepted me for what I am."
"What happened?" S wanted to know, "If you're comfortable sharing this with me of course."
Y glanced down at his lap, bracing himself to recall his story as he looked up at S again a second later and began in a strained voice, "I was fifteen when I told my parents. I don't know why I thought it would go well. Maybe I was just naïve, or maybe I wanted to believe they'd be different. But they weren't..."
S stayed silent, allowing Y to tell everything at his own pace not to make him feel like he is being pressured into telling this story by him.
"My dad was the first to say something," Y continued his story with his tone growing more bitter and his tone cracking a bit as if he was recalling a memory he wanted to keep pushed away in the deeper parts of his plan, "He called me disgusting. Said he couldn't believe his own son was a disgusting faggot. His words. Not mine. My mom didn't defend me. She just stood there, looking at me like I was broken..."
S clenched his hand, feeling a wave of anger hitting him upon hearing this as it reminded him of something. He didn't allow this to show on her face, though as he nodded as Y, silently encouraging him to continue with his story.
Y's hands began to tremble as explained everything further, "I got worse. I thought my younger brother might be on my side. I told him I thought maybe he'd keep it between us. But the next day at school, everyone knew. He told everyone. It wasn't just the kids making fun of me, either. Even the teachers didn't stop it. They acted like I deserved it. When I asked him why would tell anyone about this, he just laughed in my face and told me that I deserved."
"I couldn't trust anyone after this." Y went further into his story with his voice getting lower with each word uttered by him, "When I turned eighteen, I just couldn't take it anymore. I packed a bag, left the house, and never looked back. The last time I spoke to my parents was right before I left. They'd sat me down and told me they could fix me. They wanted to send me to a conversion therapy program."
S clenched his teeth upon hearing this, doing his best to keep his expression blank and stoned face even if he felt extremely angry on the inside right now. He didn't want to interrupt Y and his story either.
"I couldn't believe it." Y shook his head with his voice starting to break more, "It wasn't enough for them to hate me. They wanted to change me into someone else entirely. I mean, Jesus! It's not my fault that I am like this! That was the moment I knew I didn't have a family anymore. They tried to contact me a few more times after I left. But I just ignored them. They got the memo after a few times and just stopped contacting me..."
S leaned towards Y, knowing the story was finished and comforted him in a gentle tone, "Y. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. No one should ever be treated that way. What your family did to you wasn't right. It wasn't fair."
Y let out a shaky breath, "It's just hard to believe people won't react the same way, you know? I don't think I can go through that again."
"I can understood why you felt like this." S nodded at him with a thoughtful look on his face, "After everything you've been through, it makes sense. But Y, I promise you, this time won't be the same."
Y looked at him with an unsure expression on his face, "How can you be so sure about that?"
"Because I know how everyone is like." S reassured him with a smile on his face, "We're not your family. We're not your brother or the kids at your school. We're your friends and we care about you. Not some idea of who we think you should be. Just you. Let me tell you something Y. Q and the others. They'll have your back and will accept you for who you are without any problems. I know they will."
"I don't know...." Y replied with his unsure expression remaining on his face.
"You don't have to rush." S explained to him, "Take your time. But when you're ready, I think you'll find that coming out to the people who care about you isn't something you should be nervous about."
Y smiled slightly in a uncertain way, "You really think that?"
"I don't just think that. I'm certain of that." S nodded at him in a confident manner. He grinned at Y a second later, "And if anyone gives you a hard time, they'll have to answer to me."
"I see. Thanks, S." Y couldn't help himself and chuckled at this. He let out a deep exhale a second later and nodded to himself, "...Alright. Let's do this."
S's eyes widened a bith a smile instantly forming on his face, "Really?"
"Yeah. Let's do this today." Y nodded at him with a newfound confidence in his tone regarding this matter even if nervousness was still evdent in it. He looked at S questioningly a second later, "So. How are we going to do this?"
"How about the dinnertime?" S suggested to him, "Everyone is always gathered at the dining room around that time so I think that would be a perfect time for you to come out."
Y once again nodded at him, "Alright. Sounds good to me."
----
The dinnertime came at the HQ of the watchers of the multiverse came sooner than either Y and S expected. The time must have passed too quickly for them today because of what Y was planning to do at this time of the day and the nervoussness which came with this. Once the two of them realized the time for this had come, the two male watchers left Y's room and started to make their way towards the dining room/kitchen.
Upon making their way to their destination, the two allowed themselves to take a look around them and saw everyone was gathered there just like the expected or rather hoped would happen for this moment. Not only the watchers. The characters in the form of A2, 6O, Devola, Popola and Esdeath were present as well. The sound of many conversations of conversations going on between everyone.
The two of them stopped in their tracks for a second, allowing themselves to take a good look at the room in front of them as Y nervously played with his hands, finding himself growing more nervous regarding what he was about to do on the inside. The confidence he had inside of him earlier was slowly fading away as well. S noticed and gently patted him on the back.
"You've got this." He reassured him quietly, "I'll be right here the whole time."
"Okay... let's do this." Y nodded, swallowing his saliva as he took a deep breath to steady his nervous breathing a bit. Not wasting any more time, the two stepped into the room as everyone turned towards the new arrivals.
"Hey, you two!" X greeted them with a smile on her face, gesturing for them to sit down.
"We were about to start without you." T added jokingly a second later as S grabbed a chair and placed it near the middle of the table, leaving the seat next to him free for Y. Y sat down a second later with some hesitation with his body stiff. His nervousness didn't go unnoticed by the others.
Q looked at him questioningly, "You okay there, Y? You look like you are about to spit your lungs out."
"You two had some marathon in that game of yours again?" X asked with a gentle and amused smile on her face. Y forced a chuckle, but avoided making eye contact with anyone. S who remained next to him gave him an encouraging nod.
"Actually, there's something I need to tell you about." Y declared, his voice quiter and more nervouss than usual as everyone stopped what they were doing right now and glanced at him, showing interest and curiosity in their own ways. Aside from L. His face was blank as usual.
"I've been thinking about this for a while and it's something I've wanted to share, but I wasn't sure how to say it..." Y began to say, clenching his hands under the table as tried to force himself to continue. He glanced at S who shot him an encouraging look.
R leaned in a bit closer to him with an interested look on her face, "What is it?"
"Take your time, man." T told him, not wanting him to hurry.
"Yeah. We're not pressuring you here." Q nodded, smilling reassuringly as she was starting to suspect where this was going.
Y exhaled deeply and forced himself to reveal what he had to say to them, "Okay. Everyone... I'm gay."
Everything grew silent a second later as Y's words hung in the air. Y clenched his hands under the table, feeling himself growing more nervous with each passing moment of the silence as he looked around everyone around him, bracing himself for whatever reaction his words were going to get out of them. As the silence continued, he found his nervousness reaching new limits as he began to regret doing this. Maybe it was a bad...
He was taken out of his thoughts a second later as T broke the silence between them, "Alright. That's cool."
"Yeah. Thanks for telling us." X added, smilling gently at him.
"I'm proud of you, man." Q smiled at him in a proud and supportive way.
"Yeah. I know this must have taken a lot from you." A decided to add his own part intot his conversation, "We're so happy you felt comfortable enough to share this with us."
R nodded in agreement, "Yeah. I'm really happy to know I'm not the only homosexual among us."
Y blinked in surprise with a wave of relief hitting him, "You guys are okay with this?"
F raised his brow in confusion, "Why wouldn't we be?"
"Yeah." M nodded in agreement with confusion showing in his tone as well, "We knew R was a lesbian since day one and didn't show any problems with this."
"Thanks guys. It means a lot..." Y looked around the table with a grateful smile on his face, his heart lighter than it had been in years. "I was so nervous to tell you guys. I was worried about how you'd react."
T rolled his eyes playfully, "Y, come on. We're your friends and we're all in this together. We're not going to let something like that change how we see you."
"Not to mention it would be awkward for everyone if suddenly someone had a problem with you because of your sexuality." Z added, smilling at him in a sweet supportive way.
Y chuckled a bit, "Yeah. I suppose. I guess I was nervous because it didn't end well I came out back on our homeworld. Especially with my family. Let's just say I haven't seen them since I was 18...."
"I see." Z looked at him with a mixture of sympathy and understanding in her tone. L looked at him with an almost sympathetic tone upon hearing about the problems with his parents. U took notice of this and raised her brow in both curiosity and concern for him.
"I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm always here if you want to talk." R offered to him with a look of understanding on her face, "You're not alone in this as I had to deal with homophobes back home as well."
Y looked at her questioningly, "Really?"
"Yeah. Even if my family was supportive and acceptive of me, I still had to deal with people who had a problem with me." R gave him a nod of confirmation and frowned as she recalled something from her past, "If you want an example. There was even this one girl at my highschool who I really liked and even asked her out. It didn't work out to say the least as she called me gross."
Y looked at her with a mixture of sadness and sympathy on his face, "R. I'm sorry..."
"Don't worry about this." R waved his concern off to show him she was not bothered by this, "I always like to think about this situation as dodging the bullet."
"I see." Y smiled
"You can ask me for some tips in dating men as well." A voiced his offer to him a second later as Y shifted his gaze to him, "You see. I'm pansexual and I dated a man in my early 20's. So I could give you some tips on dating men."
Y chuckled, "I see. I'll do my best to keep your offer in mind."
"A had a boyfriend back home? Interesting~. Does anyone here have something they want to share with us?" R asked as she shifted her gaze to C when she uttered her sentence and smirked at her.
C took notice of this right away and glared at her, "Stop with this crap. I already told you I'm straight more times than I can count."
"I'm straight as well." B added, wanting to add his own part to the conversation as K smiled a bit at this information even if she hid it pretty well.
"Yeah. Me too." U chimed in a second later as N silently nodded, confirming herself to be straight the best she could with her muteness.
"Well, I'm pansexual." Q saw what was happening right now and decide to reveal this part to herself to the others as well as she shot Y a reassuring and supportive smile. Her smile faded away a second later, though as she saw the way R looked at her. Q groaned internally at this as C shot her a sympathetic look.
"I'm pan as well." W added as N raised her brow at this, not knowing about this as he shifted his gaze to M and G, "What about you, two?"
"I'm bi." M smiled when he gave his answer.
"Straight." G added. Unaware to everyone, C felt a wave of relief hit her heavily upon hearing about this.
E chimed in a second later, "If we'll be going this route, then I guess this is my moment to tell that I'm straight as well."
"Same here." H nodded in agreement as she and E glanced at each other and exchanged a fist bump. She did her best to hide the small blush she had on her face when it happened. They glanced at D a second later, waiting for him to give his answer.
P shrugged, "I guess that makes us three."
"I'm bisexual." D gave his tired answer, looking like he wanted to get this over with.
R hummed with an interested look on her face as she shifted her gaze between D and P, "Really, huh?"
"Yeah. What about it?" P asked as D looked at R questioningly.
R smiled at them, "Nothing. It's just means every member of SEAs balance each other. I'm into women and you are into men while D is both men and women. A perfect balance if that's the right way of calling it."
"I suppose." P couldn't help herself and smiled a bit at this as D shrugged his shoulders, looking not to be really interested int his at the moment.
"You're straight, P?" O raised his brow as P tensed up a bit and gave him a nod. He smiled at her a second later, "Oh, that's nice. That means both of us are straight."
P felt her face grow red at this, "I-I see! Yeah! That's nice!"
"If O and E revealed themselves, I guess it's my turn." F added, "I'm straight as well."
S decided to follow this up as the last member of FOES, "I'm bisexual."
T raised his brow, "Bisexual? Ain't you gay?"
"To be honest. I was certain you were gay too." P added with her tone showing genuine suprise with her red face from a few secons ago fading away. A few of the watchers nodded in agreement.
"No. I'm into both men and women. I just have a preference in men." S gave them his explanation, shaking his head as he explained further with a chuckle escaping his mouth, "You could say I have one particular type in women as well."
R raised her brow at this, "Really?"
"What is it?" T wanted to know the answer to this question.
S smiled, "Hey. A gentleman doesn't kiss and tell, right?"
"Seriously?" T looked at him with a disappointed look on his face, "You are going to keep this to yourself? It's like Yumi would hide the fact that she is into foreigners."
K blushed and glared at him, "Hey!"
R nodded in agreement and leaned closer to S, "I'm with T on this one. You can't make a girl interested only to leave her in the dark like this."
"Hey. Talking about your sexual orientation and talking about the stuff you are into are two different things." S defended himself as he looked up at Y who let out a chuckle at the way he was messing with both R and T right now. He decided to change the subject of the conversation a second later, "If you're so smart T, then how about you reveal yourself?"
"Very well." T crossed his arms as K looked at him with a thoughtful look on her face, "I'm bisexual, like you. But unlike you I have a preference in women.'
S nodded in understanding, "I see."
T shifted his gaze to K a second later, "What about you, Yumi?"
K blushed a bit as she found herself in center of attention, "O-Oh! Well, I'm pansexual..."
"I'm aromantic and asexual. I think this is what it's called?" L asked as he gave his answer next, unsure if he used the right words for this, "I tried dating when I was a few years younger. But nothing ever worked out and I just felt odd while going on dates. I asked about this on the internet and after this I just realized I'm not interested in the stuff like this."
U smiled at him and gave him a nod, "Yeah. You got the right words for this."
L nodded back at her, "Alright. Good to know."
"I'm pan." J replied as she held out her pan for everyone to see, caressing it with her other hand and smiled to herself, looking a bit proud of what she was about to do it, "You get it? I'm holding a pan right now because I'm pan. It's a pan just like I'm..."
Her smile faded away when she looked around everyone around her and saw all of them looking at her blankly. She lowered her pan a second later, looking a bit embarassed by what just happened.
"Yeah. I'm gonna stay silent now..." She cut herself in the middle of the joke, placing the pan on the table with an embarassed look on her face.
I looked at V with a hopeful look on her face, "What about you, V?"
"I'm asexual." V smiled as I felt all the world around her shatter upon hearing this with hope vanishing from her face in an instant. Hope slowly came back to her when V added, "But I'm not aromantic like L. While I'm okay with being single, I wouldn't mind finding myself someone for as long as we would be compatible with each other."
I smiled sweetly at her with all the hope within her regained, "I see!"
"What about you?" V asked, growing a bit uncomfortable as she took notice of the way I reacted to her reveal.
"I'm bisexual..." I began to give the answer.
T looked a bit suprised by this, "Bisexual?"
"I thought you were a lesbian like me." R added with a suprised look on her face.
I shook her head, "No. I'm bisexual. I just have a heavy preference in women. Just like S has his preference in men."
"I see." R nodded with an interested look on her face and crossed her arms, "Will you tell us what is your type of a woman?" She shot S a quick look, "Unless a certain someone who wants to keep this to himself."
"Yeah." I nodded in confirmation as she looked up at V with a smile on her face with her face growing red when she gave R her answer, "I love strong and powerful women. The kind of woman who could scope me up in her arms and make me feel protected."
"I see. Good for you." R replied in understanding, smirking widely right now, "Here's hoping you'll find yourself a strong woman to keep you safe."
"Yeah..." I agreed with her, keeping her eyes on V as V grew even more uncomfortable after I gave her answer while looking at her like this. She even inched away from I. Something I failed to notice.
R shifted her gaze to X and Z a second later, "What about you two. I think you're the only ones who didn't say anything."
"Pretty fitting for the oldest ones to be the last ones to give the answe here if you ask me." W commented.
"I'm only interested in men so that makes me heterosexual." X revealed second later with a gentle smile on her face, paying no attention to W's comment as Z's expression twisted a bit upon hearing this.
"As for me, I'm bisexual with no real preference. Both a man and a woman would be good enough for me as a partner without leaning of who I would like more." Z gave her answer a second after X gave hers, doing her best to keep the expression normal after hearing X's answer as she clenched her hands under the table. Something which thankfully went unnoticed by everyone around her.
"Since all you gave your answer, then I suppose I can chime in as well not to be left out." Esdeath spoke up a second later as everyone shifted their attention to her. The blue haired young woman gave what she thought was a normal smile, despite how sinister it look as she revealed, "I'm bisexual with no preference like Z. At first, I thought I had preference in men. But I found out I'm wrong after meeting R~."
R smiled at Esdeath and placed her hand on her heart, "Esdeath..."
"I'm a lesbian!" 6O revealed her own sexuality a second later, having a happy and bright smile on her face as she glanced at R. R returned her gaze and smiled at her lovingly, making the blonde haired android blush.
"I'm pansexual." Devola made her declaration a second later, "To be honest I think most androids are with few exeptios like 6O." She elbowed Popola, "Right, sister?"
Popola nodded in agreement, "That's true. I didn't really knew the name for this as I didn't think much of it before I met all of you. But I think I'm pansexual as well."
"We're both pansexual, then?" A looked at his girlfriend wth a smile on his face as Popola looked at her boyfriend and gave him a nod of confirmation. He smiled at her lovingly a second later, "That's great! You could say it's something we have in common, huh?"
Popola blushed a bit, "I-I suppose."
"Alright, A2. That leaves just you." Q smiled at A2, leaning a bit closer to her with an interested look on her face.
A2 rolled her eyes, looking like she was not interested in the conversation in the slightest, "Do I really have to take part in this?"
"Yup. Since everyone gave their sexualities, there's no reason for you to hide yours." Q nodded at her with half serious and half playful look on her face.
"Come on. You know this won't hurt you." B added, encouraging A2 to give her answer.
"Fine. Whatever. I guess I'm like Devola and Popola." A2 gave her answer, wanting to get this over with, "It's not like it will matter when it comes to me, anyway."
"Never say never." Q playfully told her.
"Shut up." A2 glared at her, getting some chuckles out of everyone as Y found himself smilling at what was happening right now. He shifted his gaze to S a second later and S smiled at him as his own silent way of telling him that he was proud of him and telling him "I told you so" of how accepting everyone was of him.
----
The dining room grew quieter as the time passed with everyone slowly finishing what they had to eat and leaving to do whatever they had planned after dinner either in their rooms or somewhere else in the HQ. Y stayed seated, despite having already eaten his dinner as he allowed himself to process what happened today with the emotions which came along with it. S and Q remained close to him him, offering him support by being there with him.
As the room finally emptied, leaving only the three of them, Q sat down on the chair closer to Y and let out a loud dramatic sigh with a grin on her face, "Man, that was something else, huh? I don't think I've seen this room so full of heartfelt vibes in a long time. I honestly felt like my heart was going to pop out of my chest because of how sweet this way."
"Yeah, it definitely felt like a lot. But it went better than I expected." Y admitted, smilling widely because of how happy he felt right now because of everyone accepting him for what he was.
S smirked at Y as he leaned back in his seat, "See? I told you it'd be fine. You were worried for nothing."
"I know, I know." Y rolled his eyes in a nice way, "But you can't blame me for being nervous. You were right, though. It felt good to finally say it. I didn't realize how much I'd been holding it in."
Q smiled at him, "Yeah. I can tell. But I have to tell you how proud I am of you right now. Honestly, you should be proud of yourself."
"Yeah. Thanks, Q." Y smiled at her gratefully and shifted his gaze to S with his expression growing more questioningly, "S. Can I ask you something?"
S nodded at him, "Sure. What is it?"
"Why were you so supportive of me coming out?" Y voiced his question to him, "Not that I'm not grateful, because I am but you were so sure about everything. It felt like you just knew."
S smiled at him genuinely as he leaned forward and placed his hands on the table, "Let's just say it's something I got for my my moms."
"Your moms? You were...?" Y instantly took notice of his choice of words and began to voice his question as Q raised her brow with an intrigued look on her face.
S gave them a nod of confirmation a second later, "Yes. I was raised by two women. My dad passed away before I was born and my mom Christina re-married my mum Alia when I was six years old."
"I see." Y replied in understanding with a pleasantly suprised look on his face.
"Why did you never brought this up when we talked about our families?" Q wanted to know.
S shrugged, "Because it never came up. You and the rest weren't specifying the genders of your parents so I saw no reason in specifying mine."
Q nodded in understanding, "Good point."
"How did your moms met?" Y asked with his tone showing genuine curiosity as Q nodded in agreement, having grown curious about this as well.
"My mum Alia used to be my babysitter before she and my mom got together and I always had tons of fun with her. She moved in with us after some time and the rest is history." S began his explanation with a smile on his face, "In fact, she was like my second parent before she and my mom revealed themselves to be together to me. When that happened, the younger me just looked at them confused and what's so new about this as Alia was already like my other parent to me."
Y smiled, "I see."
"That's so sweet." Q commented, smilling herself, "I imagine how happy your mum must have been when you told her about this."
"Yeah. She hugged me so tightly after I said that. Honestly, I thought she was going to suffocate me." S nodded in confirmation, finding himself smilling more at the memory of this moment flew through his mind. His smile faded away from his face a second later as he frowned sadly, "This is why I could really sympathize with you when you told me how your family treated you after you came out as gay to them. It really reminded me of my mum."
"Why?" Y raised his brow in concern as Q showed concerned as well.
S sighed with his tone growing sadder, "Because her story is similiar to yours. She got disowned by her family after she came out as a lesbian to them when she was 19 and she and my mom met two years later when she was 21. They even went to our house sometime after my moms got together."
"What happened?" Q asked, her tone showing anger on Alia's behalf as Y looked pitful and sad of what S's other mom must have gone through.
S continued his explanation, "They found out about my mum finding a partner and having a child. They must have thought she was in a relationship with a man due to the child stuff as the thought of her being with a single woman must have been alien to them."
"How did they react?" Q asked him another question even if the answer seemed obvious to her.
S quickly gave them an explanation, "As well as you can expect. They caused such a big scene that even the neighbours came out as they screamed how my mom kept poisoning my mum. They even threatened to call the CPS on them to have me removed from my home because my moms could try to poison me with their disease. My mom told them to leave and threatened them to call the cops on them before shutting the doors in their faces and went to comfort my mum."
Y looked at S with a sympathetic look on his face, "I can't imagine how hard that must've been for her. She just wanted to have a normal happy life being what she was and she was instead forced to deal with something like this."
Q crossed her arms, her face showing anger, "It makes me sick that people can be so cruel, especially when it's their own family doing it. Your mom didn't deserve that, S."
S leaned back in his chair again with a bittersweet smile on his face, "Yeah. She didn't. But what we should focus is what she made of herself. She became a strong woman who built a life that's full of love, laughter, and support. That's why I'll always stand by people like you, Y. Because everyone deserves that kind of love, no matter what."
Y smiled at him gratefully, "Thanks, S. That really means a lot. And I'm so glad your moms found each other. It sounds like they are amazing people."
"They are." S nodded, letting out a saddened sigh, "I just hope they're doing alright now because of, you know..."
Y frowned sadly, "Right..."
"Don't worry about it. I'm sure they'll doing fine." Q tried to assure S.
"I hope so." S once again sighed sadly, "I hope nothing bad happened to my partner Loretta as well as she was with me when I was brought in to become the watcher. Me vanishing when I was with her could look sketchy in some people's eyes."
"Yeah..." Y replied, not knowing how else to reply to this as he decided to switch the subject of the conversation to something else. He glanced at Q and asked her, "What about you, Q? From what I can tell, you figured out my sexuality as well. How?"
Q smiled at him and waved her hand, "That was easy for me to do. Let's just say I have the experience. You see my younger sister Ljuba is a lesbian."
"Really? That's cool." S looked pleasantly suprised by this. Something in the back of his mind was telling him how Q's sister would have gotten along with his mum if she ever met her.
"When did she come out about this to you?" Y asked with curiosity evident in his tone. From what he knew from Q, her younger sister was 16 when they were first brought in to become the watchers. She must have came out in a similiar age he had came out to his family.
Q shook her head and gave him an explanation, "She didn't come out when I was a normal human. But I'm certain about this. She just gave me all the sights of being interested in women. The first situation I can think of happened when she was nine and she asked me if it's okay to marry another girl. There were a few other situations when she made it pretty obvious to me. I didn't push her on it, though as I wanted her to come out at her own pace."
"I see. That's a shame." Y replied in understanding.
Q nodded in agreement, letting out a sigh, "Yeah. I was really looking forward to the moment my suspicions regarding her would be confirmed."
"What about your parents?" S asked with a bit of concern in his tone, "Would they be okay if she told them about her being a lesbian?
"You don't need to worry about it. My parents are completely okay with stuff like this as one my dad's younger brother is gay." Q waved their concerns off, "When I came out as pan to them, my dad even joked by asking me when can he expect me to bring a future daughter in law into their home and my mom agreed with him."
Y couldn't help but laugh at Q's statement, "Your parents sound amazing, Q. That's such a wholesome reaction. I wish more people had families like that."
"Yeah. They sound like amazing people as well." S added, smilling.
Q smiled and leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms, "Yeah, I lucked out in the family department. I have no doubts about it. They've always been chill about pretty much everything. My dad especially has this 'as long as you're happy, I'm happy' mentality. Trust me when I say that Ljuba would definitely have gotten the same treatment when she came out."
Y smiled at Q again and shifted his gaze between S and Q with gratitude becoming more evident on it, "Well, you've both been that for me tonight. I don't think I could've done this without you. Thank you."
Q nodded at him with a smile on her face, Always."
"Yeah." S added in a warm tone, "You're one of us, Y and we're all in this together. Like I said, you can always count on our support. We're not going anywhere."
Y's smile grew a bit as he got up from his seat, "You know what I'm in the mood for right now?"
"For what?" S asked as Q raised her brow at him.
"For some Mario Kart." Y replied, "You two are in?"
"Yeah. I'm in." S nodded as he got up from his chair.
Q followed his example and got up from her chair, "Yeah. You can count me in for some games as well."
"Alright. Let's go, then." Y replied, smilling at his two friends as he turned away from them and pushed himself into walk towads his room. S and Q wasted no time and followed him, keeping themselves close to him. For the first time in a long time, he truly believed that he wasn't alone. He had people who cared about him, who understood him, and who would fight for him no matter what.
And that was the kind of family he'd always dreamed of....
