Chapter 8

Scar woke up the next day, dizzy and with a headache. His head pounded, each wave of pain crashing into him with a powerful force. And opening his eyes only made it worse. He groaned in displeasure and put a hand to his head. He looked back in his memories, wondering what on earth would have happened to make his head feel this way. He couldn't find anything though, except a fuzzy feeling whenever he thought about the previous night... He probably had a dream, and this fuzziness was him forgetting. He brushed it off, and opened his eyes again once he felt good enough. Finally, his surrounding sounds seemed to make their way to his ears, filling his mind with the laughter of his friends.

"Scar, you're awake! Perfect timing, I just made breakfast!" Grian said, grinning. "Come eat, it's still warm!" he said, gesturing him over. Scar let out a small breath, brushed away his thoughts, and rolled over to the table to join the two.

"What are we eating for today?" Scar asked, glancing over to the plates. Pancakes. It just had to be pancakes. Scar laughed. "Looks good, looks good!" he said, thanking Mumbo as the mustached man passed him some food.

"So, how did you sleep last night? It must have been good, you were sleeping heavy like a baby!" Mumbo chuckled.

Scar shrugged. "I slept fine, my memory of last night was a bit fuzzy, but I think that was just a dream I forgot." He chuckled. "Happens a lot, doesn't it?"

"Ah, yes. Dreams don't seem to like us! They run away as soon as we open our eyes!" Grian laughed.

Suddenly he sat upright. "Oh- I forgot! I picked up some doughnuts this morning!" he said, moving to the other side of the kitchen to uncover his secret stash of the round, filled, treats. Grinning, he brought it over and planted it on the table. "There! Now we're all good!" he said.

Greedily, Mumbo snatched one as fast as his hands could let him, taking a nice, big bite of it. Scar grabbed his own, taking smaller bites to prevent any choking. Of which Mumbo nearly did. He started coughing up the food, spitting it out with a disgusted look on his face. He turned and glared at Grian, who was now sporting a mischievous grin.

"Ahh! You're the lucky winner! How does the mayonnaise taste?" Grian laughed.

"Rather delicious," Mumbo said sarcastically. "You should try it!"

"Oh nah, I think I'm good! I'll have a different one instead!" Grian chuckled, reaching for a doughnut.

Mumbo stood, swatting his friend's hand away from the box. "No, I must insist you try this one!" he said, shoving the altered one into Grian's face. Grian backed up slightly.

"Oh, no! Only the best for Mumbo!"

"But I'm offering it to you- so you must take it!" he said, reaching further over the table to wave the pastry in the sweater boy's face.

"Noo! I mustn't! It's yours!" Grian said, suddenly taking off to the living room. He laughed as Mumbo chased him.

"Eat it, Grian! The Great Mumbo demands you eat it!" he said.

"No- I can't!"

"But you must! You must taste the best one- you said it yourself!" Mumbo replied. "Eat it!" he said, finally managing to stuff it in Grian's face.

"Ah- ew- gross! It's in my mouth!" Grian shouted, wiping at his tongue with his hands. Mumbo laughed.

Scar smiled, shaking his head. Those two... They really did seem like brother's, didn't they? Without all the chaotic fighting of course. They, for sure, were all great friends.

Grian opened the door and moved aside, allowing his friends in and to Elenore's room. They had all come to pay her a visit.

Elenore looked up from the book she was reading, and smiled seeing her friends. "Hey guys..." she said.

The boys came over, Grian sitting in the chair beside her. "Hey, Elenore.. How are you feeling today?" he asked.

Elenore put her book down on her lap. "A little better than yesterday... Pain meds are helping a lot." she said.

Scar leaned toward Mumbo, whispering. "Is it bad that I ship them?"

Mumbo let out a muffled chuckle, covering his mouth with his hand.

"I was also wondering... Based off the recent events... That Saturday part is canceled?" Elenore asked.

"No, they just moved it to the next Saturday. Decided it would be a good idea to do it still, lift everyone's spirit's from..." Mumbo trailed off, his good wing twitching.

"Ah, well I hope I'll be better by then." Elenore said.

"I'm sure you will, you're already improving very well." Grian said, smiling slightly. On the two continued talking, Mumbo and Scar soon joining the conversation.

The boys spent the rest of their day with the princess, giving her company and playing games. Then early the next morning off Grian went to go shopping while the other two went to visit Elenore again. Grian had to get groceries, since he was getting low quickly with Mumbo and Scar now staying with him. Off to the store he went, grabbing the basic needs and a little bit of extras. Then- he couldn't help it. He got something specifically for Elenore. He was certain she'd need a good 'pick-me-up'. By the time he was paying for everything though, he had gotten a good few things for the princess. Maybe he was getting a little too... close to her? Attached? He wasn't sure.

Heading off home, he thought to himself. Scar, yesterday said the previous night felt... blurry? Fuzzy? However he put it... Was it bad that it was the same for him? He hoped it wasn't something Watcher related. They dealt with enough. Then again, they probably weren't going to stop for a while... He sighed. Whatever were they supposed to do? How were the watchers going to be stopped... before something even worse happened?

And then he was home, grabbing keys from his pocket to unlock the door. Walking in he looked around, setting the bags on the counter. He then pulled out his phone, sighing to himself once again. Still no word from his girlfriend... He hoped she was okay. He'd have to go visit her again soon, see if everything was well. But for now, he went on to text his friends, telling them he'd be there soon.

He paused though, and looked up toward the hall. Something had moved from the corner of his eye... A shadow maybe? Putting his phone down he went over the hall, peaking in. Nothing was there, and all doors were closed... It was probably just his imagination. He narrowed his eyes slightly, returned to his phone and stuffed it in his pocket, then grabbed the stuff for Elenore, heading back out again.

Elenore smiled brightly, checking over the stuffed wolf. It was teal and purple in color, with gradient colored wings. She popped in one of the chocolates in her mouth and chuckled. "Thank you, Grian! It definitely made me feel better." She said, grabbing the other stuffed animal. It was a cute little dragon, a bright purple one. "Now I'll have company when you guys are out." She chuckled.

Grian smiled. He was grateful to help her. It must've been hard being stuck in bed for so long... But at least-

"Oh! The doctors earlier today said I should be good enough by the end of the week to leave! They said I've been heeling really well, fast even." The princess said.

"Oh, that's great!" Scar said. "It must be pretty fast then, because it's only been five days!" He chuckled.

Elenore nodded. "I do admit, it is pretty fast for all the injuries I had gotten, but I guess they weren't that bad!"

"Either way, it's better than it all going super slow." Mumbo said. Grian nodded.

"Anyway, I-" Grian paused, and furrowed his brow. He looked around quickly, then to each of them. "Did anyone hear that?" he asked. The others looked at him with confusion.

"Hear what?" Mumbo asked.

"someone whispering..." Grian said.

Mumbo made a face. "Oh, please don't tell me it's the watchers again!" he groaned.

Grian waved his hand slightly, shaking his head. "No.... well maybe- I'll be right back." he said, standing up and leaving the room. No, it was a watcher. It very much was. It gave off that... vibe... Why couldn't the watchers just leave him alone? What they said though, almost got him worried... He had to go look for himself. He had to know.

Mumbo furrowed his brow, watching his friend leave. "...Should we follow?" he asked.

Scar shrugged. "I don't know... Maybe we should. Because that was a bit..."

"Odd?" Mumbo said. Scar nodded.

"You guys go, see if he needs help or anything. I won't be moving an inch." Elenore chuckled. The boys nodded, then left the room to find their friend.

Only, they couldn't find him. They had left just a moment after him, yet there was no sign of him. Slowly they began searching his home, then the stores, then- well... No matter where they looked, no matter how hard their hearts raced with worry, no matter how much they tried to call him...

Grian had seemed to just...

Disappear.
