Chapter 2

Claire's POV
Within seconds everything became ashes. There was no way of telling what had just happened. The world around me didn't seem like what it was just a few seconds ago, even the sky dyed it's colour. A bloody mist that will never be forgotten. The broken glassy sky that will forever be embedded in my mind, as well as the once tall city buildings shattered sending away mini scatters of glass flowing in the wind before becoming apart of the dump in the ground. Trees that were once fresh and new, withered away like there was no tomorrow and people with good and evil hearts the same. All became one with the dump, turned to ashes.
The broken wasteland inscribed in my mind like a scar that would never heal, standing forward I stared horrified at what was left of the dystopian world.

Thomas was knelt down next to me, face in hand. I couldn't help but to notice, his once shining blue eyes that reflected the sky, blurred, it seemed almost a clouded grey to dull to reflect anything. It was troubling the fact that I didn't know how to comfort him, it was as if he was a glass fragment so delicate that if I were to even place the tip of my finger on him, he would break. It wasn't just the sad look on his face, the way he knelt there, made me pity him. Like a well educated man turning into savages.
The silence was screaming for mercy and within that moment the skies began to cry, tears of blood drops showered slowly down.

The painted scenery felt so unreal yet it was real. "T-Thomas.." my voice quivered though the undisturbed air. Was this my fault? Was he mad? Questions swirls through my mind. "What just happened? Why was it always like this?" His head suddenly jerked up "Always like what?" his voice low and weak. "Always messed up, me and you." Silence..
"You can't blame yourself.."
"But.." I began but was interrupted "Let's just focus on surviving first and find out what happened." his tone was harsh yet reassuring, it was as if he was trying to convince himself everything was ok. He has always been like this, wrestling within himself, acting stronger then he was. "The reason I came to see you today was actually because.. I wanted to settle something.. After the incident you've changed so much, kept your distance, avoided me and the meaning behind those words you spoke that day, the reason you wanted to.. " I stopped, after noticing how his face twisted in pain as if he was trying to fight a battle with his inner self. I took a gulp of the polluted air and wanted to throw up. There was so much left unspoken, so many more things I wanted to tell him. Reaching out, I took a hold of his hand. The gentle warmth he gave radiated thoughout my body, I remember the same warm radiant my family gave me, my friends, boyfriend.. Died off left me behind, left me cold. "Claire.. I can't.." his hand jerked away from mine, blowing out the flame he had created. He ran a hand through his blonde hair, a look of hurt etched on his face as he walked off, back into the bomb shelter leaving me frigid.

Laying down on the cracked ground perfectly still, I let the darkness consume me..

You know those awful moments where you wish you were in a nightmare and you try to pitch yourself awake only to find that your not dreaming and you come to realization that 'this is it.. This is reality.'
You know those moments where you wish you could just turn back time and that moment when you realise you can't? Well I know, because, I'm in all those moments.

When consciousness flooded back through me the sky was dark. I stood there dumbfound as I gazed up at the open wild blue yonder, lit by millions, even trillions of stars that expanded far beyond my wildest imagination. Next to me laid a bunch of broken pieces of things left that Thomas must have picked up while I was out. A sharp piece of broken glass, a few bits of what looked to be edible, burnt wood and ripped cloth. Rummaging through the pile, I picked out bits that I could swallow, bits that resemble food.

"Claire?.." his voice resounded from behind. I turned around a met his glaze, a slight

"Good you're awake, now we can start"

"Start?" I could hear my voice echo back but he ignored me and continued
