Chapter 9: Cold Days
I need ideas!
Someone quick, Inspire me!
I have really bad writers block. It doesn't mean I'll stop writing, it just means my writing will be a little lackluster until I get inspired again.
Help Me!
It was in the middle of winter, somewhere near Christmas. Our two friends have had to cuddle up to get warm. The wasteland is unforgiving, but winter will kill you.
The station lacked insulation, and the only warmth they had was the blankets, and each other.
The snow was piled so high, they couldn't go and look for food. Not that they would be able to see anything with the amount of snow.
Luckily, they had enough food to last the worst of it.
Right now, they were huddled together in a ball, trying not to freeze to death.
Impact looked more like a Newfoundland dog now then a pit bull, his hair was so long and thick you could have sheared it.
Like most people, Aaron hated the cold, there wasn't much he could do in it and he liked being productive, But there was one thing that made Aaron much different than most people.
He liked to hibernate. He slept so much during the winter that he could have been half bear. It's not like he had much else to do.
But that also meant Aphmau had to deal with him being in a coma for about eighteen hours of the day.
How did she deal with it?
Well she went to sleep with him. She was cold otherwise, besides, nothing bad can happen while the ground is six feet under snow. Well except freezing.
And he didn't mind, he enjoyed the company. It was also warmer, so that was a plus. And he secretly enjoyed cuddling with her.
But on a particularly cold night. They were holding each other for warmth. Even Impact who was covered in fur was cold. And snuggled up with them.
Every blanket they owned was on top of them, Every piece of clothing was on them. And they
Were still cold.
"Aaron, I'm still cold..." Aphmau said, her voice trailing off weakly. It was a wonder she could still speak at all. For there was frost on top of the blankets.
"I know, I am too." His voice was normal, but he was used to cold nights, even without extra body heat. (Though it was very welcome)
But this was the coldest winter they had had for awhile. In fact in all twenty-six years he had been alive only one winter had been this cold. And he was staying over in a different place that time.
She cuddled closer to him, She couldn't help it, He was like a furnace, warm and comforting. And she secretly liked being close to him as well.
"Try to sleep." Aaron said, laying on the pillow and trying to keep them both warm.
Impact was laying across their feet. Asleep.
He stole a glance at her shivering figure. And almost as if he had done it a thousand times before. Brought her closer to him. Much to her surprise.
His hands resting in her stomach and her head in the crook of his neck. He felt her sigh, she must have finally gotten warm.
And they fell asleep like that.
The next morning it was much warmer, and the sun beat on the back of their necks.
Like usual Aaron woke up first. And he stretched and yawned slowly before trying to get out of bed.
But he couldn't, not without waking Aphmau and Impact up. So gently he tried to move his hands from her stomach. Only to find that he was touching bare skin.
He must have moved his hands in his sleep, because they were under her tank top, and the heavy coat he had given her.
Trying to be a gentlemen, he tried to move his hands to a safer position. But Aphmau rolled to face him as she was sleeping.
Now his hands were on the small of her back. And her hands near the nape of his neck.
Really starting to blush now. He decided he should probably stop moving.
Aphmau made a very cute noise, and it made him blush even harder. He finally gave into it, and rested his head on hers.
She moved again, and now she was really awake, as cold air had found its way under the covers.
Aaron pretended to sleep. He did not want to be slapped.
He felt her breath hitch, and he felt his heart swell. She had unintentionally gripped his neck.
After a moment or two he heard her giggle and snuggle into him, and he instinctively looked down.
"Good Morning." He said with a smile, sliding his hand a lower down her back.
She jumped, and looked up at him blushing.
"Aaron! H-how long were you awake?" She asked, still not backing away.
"Long enough." He replied with sarcasm. He liked teasing her, she was cute when she was mad.
"So, are you gonna let me get up?" He asked, his other hand absentmindedly stroking her hair.
"You know, just for that comment, No." And she laughed evilly when he scoffed.
"Fine, I'm fine with being like this all day." He replied, and his hand now brushing against her side playfully.
She grumbled knowing that they couldn't stay like that forever. But sighed anyway.
"Why?" She asked, her voice cracking as she asked it.
"Well, because you're warm and-" He started
"No, why are you so nice to me, no one else was." She looked down from him, struck by a sudden depression.
He looked down, he could tell she had been thinking about this for awhile.
"Because, why wouldn't I be?" He said, making her eyes meet his.
"Huh?"
"You needed help, of course I was nice to you, well at least decent at the time. And now you're, well..." He paused, he had to phrase this very carefully.
He moved a strand of hair out of her face. He trailed off, looking away red faced.
"Someone I can call a friend, or..." He smiled, looking deep into her eyes, he leaned in closer.
" My-Mmph!"
He was cut of by her lips hitting his, and he was taken aback for a moment before he started kissing her back.
He cupped her cheek and kissed her rougher. Not being able to control himself.
She pulled back, surprised at his sudden enthusiasm.
"Oh God no, that was a mistake, I'm sorry... I-"
He covered her mouth with his finger and chuckled.
"No, it's fine, I... I... "
He looked at her for a moment not being able to finish his sentence. His mind was giving into his heart.
"I...Really like you..., A lot..." He knew he sounded like a love struck high schooler. But he didn't know how else to phrase the feelings that were rushing through his body.
"Oh, I, Uh..." Aphmau stammered, and gave a nervous smile.
"I feel the same way." She leaned into him, feeling the heat radiating off him. Sighing deeply, and smiling up at him.
Aaron grabbed her waist and caressed her hand. They didn't need to get up just yet...
