Chapter 40: Recovery

Aphmau took into account that Aaron had seen his worst fears play out in front of him.

Laurance had explained that without proper training Aaron's ability would only continue to get stronger, and in turn, harder to control.

But what exactly was going on. Aphmau noted that magic had disappeared from the world completely after the meltdown.

"It's not magic, it's a rare genetic mutation in DNA. It increases the cognitive ability in the brain. And it gains the ability to read brain waves in other people. And uh, it's permanent, no amount of Rad-Away will fix it, trust me I've tried."

It's always radiation...

"So how do we fix it?" Aphmau asked, already getting a headache.

"We don't. We teach him how to control it." Laurance said bluntly, looking over when Aaron moved from his uneasy sleep.

"Ah!" Aphmau suddenly went down and held her stomach.

"Aph!" Laurance yelled, and Aaron jolted awake.

"I'm fine... just a contraction." She grabbed the side of the table and smiled.

Aaron stared at them and then slowly got up.

"You need rest Aaron, your mind isn't fully recovered." Laurance tried to lead him back into bed. But Aaron swatted him away.

"I'm fine Laurance." He gave him a look of confidence. And turned to Aphmau.

He laid his hands on her belly and smiled.

He kissed her lightly, and groggily. As he just got up.

"I'm not going slip away anymore. That I can promise you." He laid his forehead on hers, and they both smiled.

"Laurance, teach me." He reluctantly tore away from her.

"Your mind is too weak at the moment. I can't." Laurance wanted nothing more than to help him. But if they tried now the results may be tragic.

"Yes you can, I won't sleep knowing I can get trapped in my own mind." Aaron was not budging, he was going to learn.

Laurance rolled his eyes. Aaron was being reckless and stupid, he didn't know the consequences of overworking his mind.

"No. not until your mind has time to recover. That's final!" He walked away to prove his point. But ran into something warm and soft.

"Hey babe." Garroth placed his forehead on Laurance's and Laurance was taken aback, blushing profusely.

"Garroth!? I thought you were watching the boys?" He said, not backing away from his lover's advances, but trying to at least make him wait.

"Their asleep, and it's hard to make conversation with toddlers. Besides, I was worried about you." Garroth gave his lover no time to react when he kissed him passionately on the lips. Laurance blushing harder, but relaxing into it.

"I haven't gotten a chance to be alone with you after the boys came into our lives. I want to able to do what we used to." Garroth pulled back a centimeter to say this, his mouth still touching Laurance's.

"I love the boys, but, I love you as well. And I don't want our relationship to change because we have kids." Aaron and Aphmau, although in the room. Could not hear them, as they were too busy cleaning, or taking care of Aurora.

Though Aaron had to sit down once or twice, his head started hurting and he didn't want to disappear from the plane of reality again.

"Garroth... trust me I need that right now. But our place is just way too small. And I'm not experimenting with you in front of our kids. It could scar them for life." Laurance leaned closer into Garroth. And he smiled.

"And that is why Aaron is making space for us here. So we can have our little escape...." He voice got low and sultry, his tongue licking the corner of his mouth.

Laurance's hair stood on end, and he felt the heat of Garroth's body flush against him.

"N-not here...." Laurance said quickly, pushing his lover away reluctantly. And Garroth although being shut down. Laughed.

Gathering his composer he grabbed Laurance's hand and in a serious voice asked him:

"Do you think.... I was born sick. My parents were supportive of me... but they still didn't like the fact their eldest son turned out gay." He looked at Laurance's face and kissed him before pulling away.

"Garroth, if you were born sick, then love is a virus. Because you infected me." Proud of his analogy his caressed his lover's hand and smiled.

"And No, my parents... and myself. Thought I was straight as a pole. But when I met you.... I was confused..... why did you make me feel so nervous? Why was your laugh so intoxicating? And it wasn't until you told me that you loved me for the first time when I made the realization that. Shit... I'm about as straight as a circle." He looked back on the memories with deep fondness. And sighed.

"And if the boys turn out like us, or not, either way. I don't care. But their gonna be just fine."

Garroth had tears welling up in his eyes. And he pushed Laurance against the bar. Kissing him with enough power to relight the sun.

Aaron walked by, kicked the bar. And stared into the startled faces of the spooked lovers.

"Before you two get too into each other. Please note that one we have a baby in the house. And two she is asleep at the moment and three I have heard how loud you two get, so please go to the roof." He pointed to the hatch that lead to the roof and the two lovers sheepishly went up to the roof. Where all sounds were cancelled out.

Aphmau giggled and went to Aaron's side. And he lovingly wrapped his strong arms around her.

But something nagged the back of his mind. If he didn't learn to control his newfound ability. He could get trapped in his, or anyone's mind.

And this, scared him.

He was going to be fathering two children of his own soon. Though with the help of his wife, he had new fears to take into account.

"Don't let it get to you. We'll work it out, we always do." Aphmau led him to the kitchen, where he saw, that, there were baby bottles everywhere. And food on the table.

"The Family Dream...." He said, a lace of hope and lightness in his voice.

But soon, the dreams would be overshadowed by the nightmare that was reality.

And in reality....

Nothing is perfect.

And the world was about to change.....
