Chapter 26: Sleeping Jewels

Aphmau...?

Aphmau...?!

"Aphmau!" She was forced awake by Zane, who was looking very worriedly down at her. His mask hanging loosely of his face. And his other, blind eye, showing.

"You alright? You were moving a lot on your sleep." He kept his distance, hovering a few feet from her. She was on the couch, and Aurora on the bed.

"Y-yeah?" She was blushing, her dream was about a certain someone with steel eyes and soot colored hair.

"Are you sure?" He scooted up closer, feeling her head, trying to find a fever, his touch was cold, like he had just bathed in ice water. It made Aphmau shiver.

"Zane, Bro, I'm fine. It was just a dream." She swatted his hand away, turning over on the couch. To the black wall that was her brothers room.

"It was about him, wasn't it." Zane said, his blue eyes staring right into her soul. And fishing around it.

"You know me too well..." Aphmau said softly, grinning. Her brother sniggering as well.

"I do. Aph... As your brother, I'm worried, I don't know this guy and I don't know what he'll do to you-"

"Zane. Aaron would never do anything to me, I trust him." He sits and listens, hanging onto her words.

"And you know him better than I, But I still worry." He replies, pulling up his face mask to cover more of his face.

"Why?" Aphmau asked, rolling her eyes at said mask. As he just wore it because he had freckles.

"Because I am your older brother, that's my job." Zane replied, he leaned back from her, giving her room to move off the couch.

"We're the same age Zane!" She yelled, but laughed anyway. And then Aurora started crying from the sudden noise, or from hunger. It was hard to tell.

"Whoops, Well, I'd better get home anyway, Aaron's probably up by now." She stopped for a moment and added.

"Maybe."

She took Aurora in her arms and hugged Zane goodbye. She was going to miss him when she eventually left. But she would visit as often as she could.

She walked out the door and walked across the hall to their only slightly bigger room. And found Aaron gone.

He's probably out with the guys. She thought to herself, letting Aurora play with her hair.

She felt heat crawling up her neck, her dream was on the forefront of her mind:

"It's not going to hurt..." He kissed the side of her neck gently, his hand on her stomach. His other behind her neck.

"I-I...." He cut her off by kissing her again, his hands creeping lower and lower down her body. It made her shiver, and her back arches.

His hands found their way up the skirt she had on. And she tensed up in surprise. But let him continue. And much to her delight he got a little impatient.

"Please don't make me beg..." he whispered as he trailed kisses down her collarbone And her throat hitched. And he pulled back, looking into her eyes. She nodded, and he gave a lusty smirk...

She shook it out of her mind, and placed Aurora into her crib. She didn't cry as often now. And winter was in its last stages now, they could go home soon.

She heard the door open behind her, and she whipped around. Coming face to face with the man that was always on her mind.

"Hey!" She said cheerily, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Standing on her tiptoes to reach him.

"Hey. Where were you?" He asked, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer. Humming contently.

"I was at Zane's, we caught up a little bit." She leaned into him, looking up into his face. She scratched the small bit a facial hair he had. And he looked down at her curiously

"Yeah, will I went to the cafe, freaked the hell out of Laurance and then came back here. I was kinda hoping I would run into you." He kissed her briefly, and then backed up a few feet, steadying his breath.

He pulled out the red and purple amulet from his pocket. And showed it to her, she gasped and clasped her hands over her mouth.

"I got this for you... Um... It reminded me of when we first met and..."His throat went dry and he didn't know what to say. So he just went behind her and clipped it on. He stood back and admired her.

"Just take it." He finally was able to choke out. Blushing at the woman in front of her.

"Aaron..., this is so beautiful. How did you get this?" She asked, admiring the amulet, fiddling with it in her hands.

"I made it, I found the gems on my last run when we were home. I don't know much about jewelry. So..."

She tackled him, and he wobbled, but embraced her back. Steadying himself on the nightstand.

"It's beautiful, you didn't have to do this."

"I wanted to. It opens by the way. Look inside." He pressed a button on the back. And with a small click it opened, and it was a picture of the two of them, Impact in the middle and Aurora in her arms, it was hand drawn and oil painted.

"Well, I had someone do the picture, I can't draw that well- Mmph!"

He was cut off by Aphmau's lips on his, staggering with the unexpected weight, they fell on the bed. His hands finding their way to her sides.

She pulled back, then she hugged him. Impact jumped on the bed and nuzzled them both, pouncing on them and knocking them off each other.

He jumped and barked, happy that his masters were so happy.

Aaron patted his head, and Aphmau hugged Impact too. And he licked her ear, and then her face. And then anything he could reach, pushing her down and making her flail.

"Impact, No, Ewwww.... Aaron get him off me!" She tried to fight back from Impact attacks, but was unsuccessful.

"Nope, get'er buddy!" He cheered Impact on as he laughed at his lovers struggle.

"Ah! No! Impact down boy, down!" He wasn't listening, but once she was successfully covered in his slobber. He stopped and barked playfully.

Aurora giggled from he crib, she couldn't see what happened but she sure could hear.

"Looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Aaron chuckled as he went to go check on her.

He sighed, running his hand through his hair and bringing her back to the bed with Aphmau and Impact.

Impact lumbered over, his nose stopping inches from the baby's face. His hot breath moving the small trails of dark hair on her head.

Whining, he licked her gently, and she giggled and grabbed his nose. Impact wagged his tail gleefully.

Aaron and Aphmau leaned back into the bed, and he grabbed her hand, his thumb running over her knuckles. They looked at each other and Aphmau leaned into his shoulder.

"I love you..." He said into her ear, and she smiled.

"I know, I love you too."

Her hand found its way up to the amulet and she squeezed it tightly, and she slowly fell into a peaceful slumber.

Aaron smiled down at her, and watched as his dog and his daughter played.

He squeezed her hand and tried to find a moment where he was happier.

He couldn't.

He kissed her forehead, and very slowly closed is eyes. And for just a second, he could have sworn he saw Aurora look up at him...
