Chapter 25: Hangover
"Ugh..." Aaron groaned as he tried to get out of bed. But once again pain shot through his head.
What the hell happened last night?
He turned over to see that Aphmau was gone, along with Aurora. It didn't worry him, they were probably out somewhere.
Huffing, he sat up, his head pounding.
He didn't remember last night, it was really fuzzy.
"Get up big guy..." A voice from somewhere in the room startled him, and the sudden movement made him hurt even worse.
"Who's there." He winced at his own voice.
A man stepped into view, it looked like Garroth, but much older, and with a beard.
"I'm Garte, Aphmau's adoptive father, And you are Aaron I assume?" Like Garroth he had an accent, just not as strong.
"Yeah..., Uh, what are you doing in our room." He held his head. He regretted drinking.
"Well, My daughter for one thing, I came to check on her. But, it seems she's not here." He chuckled and shook his head.
"She never is..."
"And I wanted to see my granddaughter, but she's not here either." He finished.
"Yeah, uh, not to be rude, but I uh, had one too many last night..." Aaron started, chuckling and then wincing.
"Oh, okay then, here." Garte dug into his pocket. And pulled out an amulet and a white pill.
"Garroth wanted to give this back to you. Said it was important." He placed the amulet on the nightstand.
"And this should help with that headache." He gave Aaron the pill and gave him a polite smile.
"Come see me when you have time, I'd like to get to know you a little better." He left, closing and locking the door behind him.
Aaron popped the pill in his mouth and sighed. And he very slowly got up.
Little bits of last night came to him. But the more he tried to remember, the less he could.
Then he realized that his pants were unzipped, and unbuttoned for that matter. But he couldn't remember how they got like that.
He of course, fixed that, and walked out. He was a little lazy, so he went to the cafe.
Still holding his head, he noticed that it wasn't morning, and instead the middle of the afternoon.
How long had he been out?
He ran into Garroth, who was looking for his brothers, they had run off somewhere.
Laurance was drinking tea in the cafe and he looked over at him.
"Rough night?" Laurance asked, chuckling.
"Was it that obvious?" He asked him, hoping the pill would kick in soon.
"Yeah... You look like death dude." Aaron flashed him a look that said "thanks..." and sat down at the table.
"I feel like death too. I still don't know what happened..." He tried to think about it, but his head forbade it.
"Hmm... Geeze your head is foggy. How much did you drink?" He asked, looking at him amused.
"I only drank three!" He exclaimed, regretting it a moment later.
"That's a lot man, you don't even know." He laughed.
"I noticed..." He grumbled, he was a little high on everything, but he didn't know why.
Finally, the pill started to kick in. And he felt a cool air enter his scull. He had to hold in his pleasure.
"Ah..., that pill kicked in, I can actually think now." He said with a moan, just a little embarrassed.
"You remember now...... Wow, seriously?"
"What?" He looked over at him. And his memories came back to him.
Him hovering over Aphmau with a grin, his hands steadied by the beer. And them kissing passionately.
"Uh... "He was blushing bright red. That was a night and a half.
"Well... Glad you had a good time." Laurance had to hold in a laugh, but he was a little jealous, Garroth would never do that to him. At least not without a little push.
"He might if you ask him..." Aaron chuckled, giving him a look of interest.
"What?! How did you?!" Laurance yelled, not liking being read like that.
"I can see it in your eyes Laurance, you were thinking about him." Aaron ordered a coffee, and the sipped it.
"It's not fun, is it?" Aaron asked, still reading his facial expressions and eyes.
"N-No... It was kinda-"
"Creepy? Yeah, now you know how we feel."' Aaron finished for him, taking another sip of his coffee.
"S-sorry, It's not like I can help it. Sometimes I'll absentmindedly do it. And you've become easier to read as well." He added.
"Oh, how so?" He asked, glancing at a girl who waved at him.
"Well, you really need to stop thinking about other women. It's not healthy." He snickered
"Huh? Oh, she just looks familiar. That's all." Aaron looked away, staring inside his mug and deeply drinking from it.
"And stop reading me, It's getting annoying."
He purposely thought of a bound and hand cuffed Garroth to mess with him. But when he tried to read Laurance again he saw something that disturbed him.
Images of Aphmau falling, and then red lights followed. His head swirled and lurched like it was trying to escape.
Then it switched, Aphmau was chained up against a wall, her head down and dress torn, the room was damp and full of mildew.
He heard a laugh and looked behind him, the cafe had gone, instead, he was looking right into the eyes of Ivan. He had a whip in his hand
Aphmau's head shot up, looking right through him and straight at Ivan.
She looked back down, not fighting, he didn't know how long she had been down here.
"And what are you gonna do with that?" She asked dejected, scooting into the corner.
"Nothing... I just wanted to hear you ask... I like to be "hands on"" He chuckled, and looked amused.
"Come on, I know you like puns..." He didn't touch her yet, and in Aaron's opinion it should stay like that.
He saw Aphmau look up in defiance. But look back down. She had no hope.
"Guess what..." He whispered in her ear, holding one of her chains.
"I'm letting you free... Isn't that nice?"
Aaron knew this had caught her attention, but he also noticed that here, Ivan had a full set of teeth.
"Heh... Yeah... It's your lucky day..." He sounded a little too happy.
He undid one chain, and it hit the floor, Aphmau still didn't move, but he could have sworn he saw her crack a smirk.
He undid the other and hit a button, a door opened to the wasteland. And the light hit them.
Ivan stood back a little, waiting.
"Well, are you going?" He asked, he looked a little confused.
She very slowly got up, and touched her wrists.
"Hmm...?"
She walked up to him, very slowly, and he smiled.
"What? You wanna stay baby?"
And at this, She clocked him in the mouth, hard, and when her fist made contact it made a sickening crunch.
He slid to the floor with a mouth full of blood.
And then she ran, as fast as her legs would carry her, out the door and out into the wasteland. Blood trailing behind her.
"Shit!" Ivan choked, pulling out broken teeth.
Aaron laughed at him, and cheered for her, and he followed her until...
He was jostled out of it by a worried Laurance. Who had not seen this.
"You okay? You zoned out when I started yelling at you." He was blushing, mostly due to Garroth who was standing behind him.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I think I need to lay off the alcohol for a while."
