i. final goodbye
EDITED ON 12/22/22.
JULY 2013,
"why do you have to go?" nine-year-old chris sturniolo asked as he hugged his best friend, olivia wallace. olivia pulled away from the hug, her cheeks wet with tears.
"jesse lives there. dad wants to live with him instead of make him move here." olivia explained.
here's a little background: olivia wallace was next-door neighbors to the sturniolo triplets, so naturally, she had a close bond with all of them. but she was the closest with chris. when olivia was four, her mother died in a car accident. blake, olivia's father, spent months to years grieving. when olivia was six, blake met jesse perkins, a handsome businessman from california with a daughter just olivia's age, kayla. in january of this year, jesse had proposed to blake (both men are bisexual) and blake said yes.
back in may, jesse decided to have kayla spend the summer with blake and olivia before they move to los angeles. during the summer, kayla had also become good friends with the triplets, especially chris. another thing to add: olivia hates kayla. why? because olivia likes chris. and she's jealous of kayla. simple as that.
anyway, back to today. olivia had just learned that she and her father are leaving for california in one day instead of one week. the last person she was saying bye to was chris.
"i hate jesse. he's making you leave." chris sniffed. olivia shook her head.
"he didn't make us. dad was the one who wanted us to go. and of course, kayla agreed." she scoffed at the name. chris frowned.
"hey, kayla isn't that bad. she's super nice." he defended. olivia rolled her eyes.
"not to me. she's acts like she's the best person in the world and she's so bossy. she's only three months older than me but still thinks she can tell me what to do."
"do you have your ipod?" chris asked, quickly changing the subject. "i want to be able to text you while you're gone."
"no." olivia grimaced. "the b-word who shares my room lost it at the park." chris sighed.
"don't call her that, via. you guys are going to be sisters in a few months. learn to get along. at least for me."
"fine. i'll be nice to her. but only because you're telling me to."
the next day, olivia was saying her final goodbyes to her neighbors. when she scanned the crowd of two families, she saw chris. he was with kayla. olivia watched with envy as the two talked.
"bye chris. i'll miss you a lot." kayla said, giving chris a hug.
"i'll miss you too." chris said right before he kissed kayla on the cheek. olivia's mood instantly dropped as the jealousy in her grew.
"for the record, i don't really like that kayla girl either. she's annoying." nick said, walking up to her. when olivia nodded, nick pulled her into a hug. "but you have to learn to live with her. she's going to be your sister after all."
"step-sister." olivia stated bitterly. she still has to get used to not being the only child anymore.
"don't worry about it, liv. things will be better." nick rubbed olivia's back.
"thanks nick. i'm going to miss you."
"i'll miss you too, liv." the taller boy responded. after a moment, olivia pulled away from him and waved. she waved to matt, only to realize that chris was no longer next to him. she looked all over, but chris was no longer there.
he had already left.
maha speaks :)
decided to change chris kissing kayla from the lips to the cheek!
