One last time
This is based off a comment on Pintrest on a post I saw.
So pretty much I fixed One last time and let them hug at the end :)
Also because I knew that would be way to short, I put what I think was going through Alexanders head during that song.....I also made it super angsty at the end. This chapter is kinda all over the place sorry.
Love y'all.
Alexander stood in shock at the news the president just dropped.
'He was...RETIRING...why the-....WHY THE FUCK WOULD HE DO THAT!?'
He stood frozen while the man offered him a drink, talking about how the two of them were going to "tEAcH thEm hOw tO sAy gOoDbYe."
Haha, no.
"No, sir, why!?"
Alexander continued to try to talk sense into the older man. Feeling dread slowly twist in his stomach as he realized George wasn't going to listen to him.
This was really happening, wasn't it? This was it. George was abandoning him. Just like everyone else. Just like Alexander's biological father. And to think, Hamilton really thought George would be different. That he wouldn't leave him. And yet, look where that lead them.
"Mr. President, they will say you're weak!" He tried, no pleaded. Why couldn't Washington just understand that he didn't want him to leave!?
"No, they will see we're strong." George answered. His eyes not leaving Alexander's.
'We're!? Who the hell is the "we" in this!?'
"Your position is so unique!"
George simply waved him off, "So I'll use it to move them along."
"Why do you have to say goodbye?" Hamilton mentally kicked himself upon hearing his own voice crack. No, he won't allow himself to be vulnerable right now. He trusts George with his life, and yet the man was still going to leave him.
He didn't see how George's eyes softened for the boy in front of him. "If I say goodbye, the nation learns to move on. It outlives me when I'm gone."
Alexander swallowed the lump in his throat. He didn't want to even think about if George died.
George went on with some big speech about a fig tree or something. Alexander found himself zoned out through most of it.
"One last time." George said, a small, sad smile on his face as he handed Alexander the quill.
Alexander looked into his father figures eyes. It was at that moment Alexander realized this had nothing to do with him. George looked so very tired and worn out. He was doing this for himself. It would be nothing but selfish for Alexander to hold him back.
"One last time." He repeated. Taking the quill from Washington.
That night Hamilton stayed up all night writing...and crying.
And by the morning he handed the speech to George Washington. George read it over and Alexander saw the tears forming in his eyes.
Without any words between the two, Washington took his son in his arms as Hamilton began to cry softly against his father. They stood there for a while before Hamilton broke the silence.
"Call me son, one more time." he whispered against the taller man's chest. His voice sounding incredibly childish as he looked up at Washington with the biggest puppy dog eyes.
Washington smiled at his boy, "I love you son." He whispered into the way shorter man's hair. "So much." He added.
Hamilton continued to sob, even after everything he and the general had been through, he could have never imagined this goodbye would hurt this much.
"...dad..." he whimpered. "I love you too. So so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For all you've done for me."
George did nothing but tighten his grip.
They stood there and embraced for what must have been at least 10 minutes.
Little did Alexander know, this would be the last time he'd ever get to feel George's warm, strong, embrace.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alexander had never run faster in his life. He didn't knock on the door, just bursted into the mansion.
"Where is he!?" He yelled. One of the slaves Washington owned, not that Hamilton approved, hesitated before pointing at George's and Martha's bedroom door.
Alex nodded, a great full smile on his face, before running to the room, but was interrupted by a weeping Martha.
"I a-...am so sorry Alex." She whispered.
Alexander shook his head, "No-...no no no no no no no!" He repeated over and over again, falling onto his knees in front of George's bed....where said man's lifeless body laid.
"Dad! Dad cmon! Get up. You gotta get up! Please. Please dad!" He sobbed. Laying his head carefully on George's chest and sobbed, and sobbed, and sobbed.
"Te-...teach me how to sa-...say...goodbye." He whispered miserably. "On-..one las-...last time."
Haha lol wtf am I doing. I wrote this while babysitting my neighbors, it was great.
