Heat Wave
I wake up to the temperature change dramatically. It's really hot! It feels good to me though. It feels like the hot side of hell. I should know, I've been to that side of hell, occasionally. Political reasons... I walk outside to find nobody up yet. It can't be that early, could it? I could use this time to take a bath... And that's what I mosey on to do.
I get to the lagoon and start to strip down. I set my clothes on the 'shelf' and stay in my bathing suit. I get under the waterfall and shake my hair out. I lean my head back and let the water flow through my hair. Just as I'm about to start taking off my bathing suit...
"It's hot!"
My silence interrupted... I slip my top back on. That sounded like Tony... They come out of the forest into the lagoon clearing.
"I know right?" Zack says.
Everyone finally realizes my presence.
"Aah! Kat! Sorry, we didn't mean-!" everyone says in unison.
I sigh and laugh. "That's okay, I'm in my bathing suit."
Everyone relaxes and I take notice that they're all in their bathing suits too. They all come into the lagoon.
"It's ridiculous how hot it is," Erwin says.
"It really is!" Tony says.
"We were surprised when we woke up," Johnny says. "Because you didn't have breakfast made, Kat."
"Sorry, it was too hot," I lie.
"We went to see if you were still sleeping, but you weren't there," Shane says.
"We were kinda worried, but figured you might be out getting fruit or something," Jason says.
"Yeah, I was here," I say. "So I believe this is a heat wave."
"I agree," Tyler says.
I head under the water to feel the nice cool water covering my whole body. Out the corner of my eye, I see something and swim over to it. I pick it up and automatically drop it. I gasp causing me to let out all my air and choking a little on the water.
(No! These can't be here! This is the most dangerous creature from hell and everywhere else for that matter! The hellhound! This is a baby skull though... Does that mean... They still exist... I need to contact father...)
I shoot up from the water in a panicked breath. Reaching the surface I gasp for air.
"W-what's wrong!?" Lucas yells noticing my worry.
Everyone turns to look at me. I'm still gasping for air and coughing out the water.
"Th-th-there's s-some, haa, kinda a-animal skull down there..." (That's all I can say.)
"What!?" they all yell.
"It-it's not a normal skull... l-like some kind of monster," I breathe out.
"Where?" Jason asks. I point and he dives down for it. He comes back up holding the skull.
"W-what is it?" Tony asks scared.
"I have no clue what this thing is," Jason says examining it.
"Is it real?" Zack asks.
"Yes," Jason says. "It has all the qualities of being real."
The skull has four very big razor sharp teeth. Two on top like vampire fangs and two on bottom. The rest of the teeth were a little smaller, but still razor sharp. The head has three long sharp pointy horn-like things going down the back. It has a dog-like snout and two eye sockets on each side. Making four eyes total... Damn hellhounds...
"I would hate to see the rest of this thing," Shane says. "This thing is horrifying."
"I would hate to meet this thing alive," Tyler says.
"Oh hell yeah, I would piss myself if this was coming at me," Johnny says.
"This is like a nightmare coming true, it's freaking me out," Tony says scared and grabs hold of Tyler's arm.
"I don't have a good feeling about this," Erwin says nervously.
"Same here, but there's nothing we can do about it. We have to wait to see what happens," I say.
"We need to make weapons, just in case," Erwin says.
"I agree," I say and look over at Lucas.
(He hasn't said anything since I mentioned it. He's staring at the skull like he can't believe what he's seeing. Has he seen these before? If these things do exist on the island I could take on 5 adult ones, as long as I'm not protecting anyone. I'm only worried that one of these guys will get hurt...)
"What should we do with the skull?" Jason asks still holding it.
"I think we should put it somewhere we don't go to. It would freak me out if we kept it around with us," Shane says.
"Chuck it?" Jason suggests.
"No, let's just put it far away," I say.
"It's too hot!" Jason complains.
"Someone go with him to be safe, these hellhounds could still be alive," I say. Everyone turns to look at me and Lucas looks at me with complete surprise. (Oh shit... I said hellhounds...)
"Hellhounds?" Erwin questions.
"That's what I'm gonna call them," I say.
"I like that name!" Tony exclaims.
"It fits," Johnny says.
"Anyway, we need to be more cautious now, we don't know if these hellhounds are still alive or extinct," Lucas says.
"Yeah, a buddy system, you never can be alone," I say.
"Even to the bathroom?" Tyler asks a little bit disgusted.
I flinch a little. "Yeah... Even to the bathroom."
"You're a girl though, what're you gonna do?" Tyler asks.
"I really don't know, but I'll figure it out when the time comes. Right now you and Jason need to go and put the skull somewhere far away," I say.
"Fine," Jason whines. They get up and leave with the hellhound skull.
"Well, I guess we need to make breakfast," I say. "I'll teach someone else to cook for this morning. Tony? Shane?"
"Sure," they respond.
"Would you guys help us get fruit?" I ask looking at everyone else. I dry myself off and get dressed.
"Sure," they all say as we get up and head towards the grove.
...
"Well there's not much you can do with just fruit besides cutting it up and eating it," I say. "I'll teach you guys something else later, just help me cut the fruit."
"Arghh! It's too hot!" Johnny complains.
Everyone remained in their bathing suits; sweating buckets.
Jason and Tyler return. "Where'd you put it?" Tony asks.
"We were walking and came across this opening where there were lots of trees knocked down with big claw marks on them," Jason says.
Everyone shivers.
"It freaked us out so we left the skull there," Tyler says.
"Those trees were definitely not knocked down by any natural kinda cause," Jason says. "Something BIG knocked them down."
Everyone goes silent at Jason's last words.
(Something knocked down the trees? These trees are huge! It would take something really strong to knock them down... It couldn't of been me. I mean I've never walked in my sleep, but it's a possibility...)
Jason and Tyler plopped down with the rest of us.
"It's seriously hot, I'm sweating like crazy," Tyler says trying to lighten the mood.
We finish cutting up the fruit and begin passing cocobowls to everyone. When I give a bowl to Lucas he looks at me funny.
"How are you not hot?" he asks. "Or sweaty for that sort."
"Yeah, I was gonna ask you that too," Johnny says. "I mean your wearing your sweatpants for goodness sakes."
"I don't sweat," I say and everyone stares at me unbelieving.
"What!? Everyone sweats," Johnny says.
"Well, I don't. I might get sticky and smell when it's hot, but I don't sweat," I say.
"You're weird," Lucas says.
"Yes, I am weird, but I consider not sweating lucky. I won't be soaked with sweat and smell atrocious, like you guys," I say jokingly and stick my tongue out.
(I absorb the heat and use it for power. It makes me stronger.)
"Okay, fine, you win," Lucas says.
"Haha, yay!" I shout and giggle.
...
"Let's not do anything today, it's too hot," Tyler says.
"Let's go to the beach!" Tony suggests.
"Ooo! Yeah, I like that idea," Shane says interested.
Everybody gets excited and looks at me.
"Can we?" Tony pleads.
"I'm not your mother... but... I agree, it's way too hot to do anything. Just remember you always have to have a buddy."
"Yes!" Tony exclaims. They all get up and head to the beach.
I stay behind and Erwin notices. "You not coming?"
"No," I say. "I'm gonna go clean out the cocobowls and maybe collect things for lunch."
"I'll stay and help then," he says.
"You don't wanna go with them?" I ask.
"No," he says. "I didn't really wanna go in the first place. I was only going because I thought everyone else was going since we can't be alone."
"Oh, okay," I say and wrap up the cocobowls in the net.
"You were about to break your own rule," he says.
"Oh, I-I guess your right, haha," I say scratching my head awkwardly. "I can handle myself pretty well though."
He laughs. "I believe it." We laugh and walk to the lagoon.
... Lucas pov...
"Hey guys? Where did Kat and Erwin go?" Tony asks looking around and not finding them anywhere.
"What? They were right behind us..." Zack says confused.
"Ooo! What if they went off to make out?" Shane says mischievously.
"Pfffhh... Yeah, right. A girl like Kat would never do that with a guy like that," Jason says.
"What do you mean?" Johnny asks.
"Simply put, Kat is hot and Erwin's not," Jason says.
They laugh.
"Besides, Kat's not the kind of girl to do that," I say.
"Oh? Sounds like you come from experience?" Johnny says teasingly.
"N-no I-I've known her longer than all of you," I say sheepishly.
Jason slaps me on the back. "Why not go for her, dude? She'd make a great girlfriend. I mean she can do like anything! She can cook, heals you, strong, funny, and she plays video games!"
"Lucas has a girlfriend already, right?" Shane says.
"Yeah, I do," I say wistfully.
"Really? Well no surprise, you're a good looking guy," Jason says then gets an idea. "Does Kat have a boyfriend?"
"No, she doesn't," I say disliking where this is going.
"Really? That's surprising. Maybe I will try to catch her," Jason says thinking.
"Maybe I will too?" Tyler says concidering it.
"I'll make her mine first!" Johnny exclaims.
Everyone seems to join in on this and I pout.
(I'm sorry, Kat... I shouldn't of told them...)
"Let's have a little competition to win Kat's heart," Jason says.
"Sounds good to me!" Johnny says. Everyone smiles competitively and begins to splash each other.
(I don't want this to happen! Kat's mine! ...Mine... What am I saying...)
... Kat's pov...
We finish washing the cocobowls and head back to the camp. We set them down and go looking for food.
"We should get peppers and onions, and keep a look out for tomatoes."
"Okay, whatcha planning on making?" Erwin asks.
"Maybe vegetable stew?" I say unsure.
"Anything you make will probably be good anyway," Erwin says.
I giggle. "Thanks." We find what we came for but left with no tomatoes.
We return to the camp and begin chopping up the vegetables then put them on the fire. Soon the others show up.
I stand up to say lunch is almost ready when Jason walks up to me and slips his arm around my waist. My face turns red and I smack him hard in the face.
"Owww..." Jason says.
"What? Not now!" Johnny yells.
"Damn!" Shane yells.
"What the hell!?" I yell.
"Damn, you hit hard!" Jason yells holding his cheek.
"What the hell!?" I repeat. "What are you doing!?"
"Sorry... I just wanted to see your reaction..." Jason says.
"How I would-!" I raise my hand again to smack him, but stop and walk off. "Eat whatever..." I stomp off into the forest.
...
I make sure I'm far enough away before I yell. "Arghhh! What the hell!? Just to see my reaction! You-{insert your choice of cuss words here.}!" I unsheathe my claws and cut through a nearby tree. I kick it and it tumbles over with a loud booming sound. "Hah... hah... Breathe... Breathe... Calm down... Don't wanna lose it..."
If you haven't noticed already, from the little hints I gave you, I'm not a normal human. I'm not even completely all human.
Being part demon is tough. My father is the king of the demons and the strongest full blooded demon alive. Thus making me the princess. I say the strongest full blooded demon because there is another that's stronger, but not full demon, that's stronger than my father, and that's me.
Being a king you obviously need to have an heir to the throne and that's where my mother comes in.
You see, every 10,000 years, two human girls are born with special blood. One girl with the special blood for demons and one girl with special blood for angels.
If you see where I'm going you might've figured out that my mother was the special blood for demons. So my father set out to go and find her, you know once she was old enough and her special power was awakened. Meaning her blood awakens and now demons can sense it.
Demons wanted this special blood to become stronger because that's what special bloods do for demons. The demon has to mate with this individual to fully receive the power. Also, meaning the child will become stronger than the parent demon.
My father being the most powerful demon alive, my power is exceptional. I'm beyond strong. Hence the name Katima, powerful daughter, see I told you I would explain why.
Anyway, my father met my mother and fell head over heels from the moment he saw her. They dated, got married, and my mother became pregnant with me a couple years later. My mother had many problems while I was in her stomach. She was growing a half demon inside of her and apparently I was trying to kill her. My father continuously healed my mother so she wouldn't. When it became time for me to arrive everything was going wrong.
My mother almost died giving birth to me, but my father used his power to save both her and me. He used a lot of his power so he's become weaker than he was, but not so weak that anyone can beat him.
The thing that surprises me the most is my mother never knew he was a demon. So I have to hide my powers from her.
My parents are divorced now though. My mother couldn't stand the secrets he was hiding. The secrets he couldn't tell her, all about him being a demon. They still love each other, but it couldn't last.
My father lives in his castle in hell while mother and I live in a normal house. Whenever mother takes me to stay at his place she really despises the idea. The house, it's not even a livable house, well for more than one person. The house is a tiny cabin with only one bedroom, a small kitchen, and a small bathroom. Of course we don't stay there, we go to father's castle to train me.
I sigh. (These boys are definitely getting clingy...) I sensed a presence behind me. The aura surrounding it felt familiar, different from my demon aura. I quickly turn around and standing there is...
