~어, 태형씨 괜찮아요?
"Let's go hooooooooome!" Taehyung bellowed, dashing down the empty hallway, Jimin behind him. Other students were pouring out of opening classroom doors. He halted in front of the door to the bathroom.
"Wait for me?" Taehyung requested as Jimin caught up. His friend nodded and sat against the wall. Taehyung pushed past the door and into the empty bathroom, sliding over to the first sink and turning on the water.
As usual, he squeezed out a dot of soap and scrubbed at his arm, expecting to see the colors fade. But, strangely, they didn't even dull. He cocked his head, confused, and continued scrubbing. His face paled when he realized it wouldn't come off. Even when he tore off a piece of paper towel, desperately trying to rub off the ink. Still, it wouldn't leave his arm.
He started to panic. Why wouldn't it come off? His own markers cleaned off easily with only a minimal amount of washing. He couldn't help the tears pricking at the corners of his eyes as he turned off the water, hopeless. He sunk down against the wall, racking his brain for anything to get rid of the rainbow drawing on his arm, but he could think of nothing.
Suddenly the hinges of the door screeched and another boy entered, clutching his backpack straps and walking inside, appearing very disinterested with his surroundings. His face lit up in concern when he saw Taehyung, eyes getting teary as he rested against the wall.
"Oh- Taehyung... Are you okay?" Jeongguk questioned, unsure of what to do. Taehyung sniffled cleared his throat, standing up.
"Um.. Yeah.. I'm fine," He hid his face, discreetly wiping his eyes.
"Can I ask why you're upset?"
"Welp.. Those markers you lent me earlier, they weren't washable, were they?" Taehyung asked quietly.
"No, I think they were permanent. Is that bad?"
"Actually, yes. M-my parents are.. They don't know I-" Taehyung stammered, not able to contain the two tears that dribbled down his cheeks. Jeongguk started panicking too; seeing someone cry was painful for him, yet he was awkward around people showing emotion. The boy knelt down next to Taehyung, looking at the tiled floor.
"Take your time," Jeongguk soothed. Taehyung took a deep breath and started talking again.
"My parents are homophobic.. and I.. well.." He trailed off, then pointed to his arm. Jeongguk nodded knowingly.
"Is there any way I can help?"
"I-i don't think so.." Taehyung sighed. "I just wish I had brought my jacket to cover my arm. I left it because it was supposed to be warm today."
"Well..." Jeongguk looked at his own body, clothed in a navy blue hoodie. His fingers wrapped around the hem and pulled it off, over his head, then he slipped off his arms. "Here." Jeongguk offered his hoodie.
Taehyung just stared blankly for a moment, then shook his head. "No, no, it's fine. I'll be fine.."
"I wanna help. It's mostly my fault you're in this situation anyway. You're just borrowing my hoodie," Jeongguk insisted, setting the hoodie into his lap.
"T-thank you.." Jeongguk smiled happily, nodding. Again, the door suddenly opened, hinges creaking.
"Taehyung, hurry up! The bus is gonna leave! What's taking you so long?" Jimin shouted into the room.
"Coming, Minnie!" Taehyung got up, sparing Jeongguk one last grateful glance before he left the room, the other boy filing out behind him. Jimin, seeing Jeongguk come out after him, flashed Taehyung two wide open eyes. Taehyung smiled slightly. "I'll explain once we get on the bus," He whispered.
Jeongguk disappeared into the crowd of kids on their way out. Once Taehyung and Jimin were seated on the bus, Jimin couldn't hold in his questions, sputtering out a stream of hushed noises.
"Alright, calm down, nothing happened." Taehyung tried to calm him. "So, it turns out that he gave me permanent markers and I can't get the ink off with just soap. I started panicking a little since I don't have anything to cover my arm, and then Jeongguk walked in. And now," He held up the borrowed hoodie. "I have his hoodie."
"That's adorable~" Jimin teased, smiling wide. Taehyung slipped it on.
"Wow.. It smells really good.." He tugged the neck up to his nose to breathe in the faint, sweet scent. "I wonder if he smells like this," He was whispering mostly to himself, forgetting the presence of his best friend directly next to him.
"You're so in love," Jimin laughed.
"Shut up!"
