~야, 난 그냥 궁금해져

"Chul! Get out of my room!" Jimin ordered, voice tight and strained with annoyance and surprise. He jumped to his feet and crossed his arms, frowning heavily. He reached to close the door, but the boy kept a hand on the wood to keep it open.

"Relax, I'm just curious." The boy swept a hand through-neatly combed hair. His elbow rested on the doorway and he leaned into it lazily, giving off an air of potent confidence as he smoothly ran his thumb over his nails.

    "I said-"

"But I said first. Since when do you have a girlfriend?" Chul paid no mind to the anger in Jimin's face, coolly slipping his words in. Knowing him for just a moment, you knew he said what he wanted to, when he wanted to.  He brought his eyes up, and they narrowed into small slits, focused only on Sorah and filled with what seemed like it could've been attraction. Sorah, In turn, met his gaze intensely, with her practiced and refined stone-cold glare, jaw clenched and face blank. Taehyung gulped at the tension, shifting in his seat. A surprise visit from Chul was not helping his nerves. His odds already felt next to impossible, and it seemed that his plan was already going haywire.

   "I don't! She's not my girlfriend! She's Tae's-"

Taehyung cut in. "Jimin. Don't finish that sentence."

"Ah~ So she's Taehyung's girl? Really? That's a bit of a shame." His teeth raked over his bottom lip as he let out a dry chuckle, folding his arms over his chest and shifting his weight, never breaking his gaze, staring directly into Sorah's eyes. He was blatantly begging for a response from the girl, but she did not yield, and kept her tongue pressed firmly to the roof of her mouth as if it were plastered there.

    "Chul, you suck. Out."

    "But-"

"Begone! Shoo!" Jimin demanded, stepping forward to threaten Chul with a dirty sock to throw at him. "Depart from thence!"

"Whatever. See ya, lovebirds." With that, the intruder turned on his heels and left the doorway, leaving Jimin to aggresively shut the door and sigh exasperatedly. Immediately after, he put on a pleasant smile to face Sorah and Taehyung with.

"So.. That was your brother?" Sorah started, finally letting her tongue drop from the roof of her mouth.

    "Unfortunately."

"So.. D'you think this means we'll have to pretend to date whenever Chul's around, too?" Taehyung asked, the right corner of his mouth squeezing to one side in a bit of a pained grimace.

"Nah, I wouldn't worry about him. I mean, he's just one kid, and he doesn't even know your parents much. What's he gonna do? Tell them he doesn't think you two look like a couple?"

"You're probably right.. I just don't like the idea of him getting in on this. Kinda sounds like trouble to me." Taehyung shrugged, shrinking in on himself and linking his hands around his ankles.

"Hang on- How old is Chul?" Sorah

    "Oh, he's 15."

"What?" Sorah exclaimed. "He's younger than us?" The way his dark eyes scoffed and his grin sung with arrogant poise would naturally render him more than a child, even at first glance.

     "Yep, he's a freshman."

"No way! He looks at least 18."

"That's what he wants you to think, but nope, Chul's just a baby. An annoying baby."

"So he goes to our school?"

    "Mhm."

"I feel like I've never seen him. That's weird. He looks a lot like you." Sorah tapped her chin in thought. "A lot like you, but in such a different way..."

"What were we doing again?" Jimin muttered.

    "We were rehearsing," Taehyung reminded.

"You know what.. Let's be done with that. Who wants to do the chemistry study guide?"

    "Sure."

Three copies of the same sheet of paper lay on the floor as the group racked their brains and calculators for sensible answers. Sorah was better than she claimed to be, if she tried. Today, she tried, and Taehyung and Jimin were quite grateful. She seemed to grasp the concept of Avogadro's obnoxiously large number well enough to explain it to both of the boys that had been spending far too much time confusing themselves by over-complication of a subject that was relatively simple.

"Sorah, you're saving my whole life right now," Taehyung remarked, bowing his head gratefully.

"All in a day's work, or whatever."

"Yeah. See you at my house tomorrow, I guess?"

"Yeah, I'll be there. It's a date." Sorah's remark caused Taehyung's lips to curl up into a half-grin. It made him almost want to truly smile, but then again, he didn't want to need Sorah to be 'dating' him to be able to hang onto his peace of mind and relationship with his mom, and to keep his father's anger off of him. And there his mind went again, insisting on only dreaming up negative outcomes.

It  could go well. Maybe I'll pretend to think that. Maybe that could help it go better.

Mom, I love you. Please don't hate me. I'm going to pretend that I think this will go well. I'm going to pretend you'll love me no matter what.

This was gonna be interesting.
