A First Date (Chapter 27)
Hae-Jun:
I wore my grey suit, seeing as how fancy La Yeon was. The taxi was waiting outside the Campus gates, and I was waiting for my girlfriend outside her block. God, how nice it felt to be able to call her that. 𝘏𝘢𝘦-𝘙𝘪, 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥. 𝘕𝘢𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘰𝘫𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘶, 𝘏𝘢𝘦-𝘙𝘪 𝘠𝘢. (My girlfriend, Hae-Ri)
She quickly walked down the stairs, and appeared before my eyes. She looked fantastic! She wore a grey, formal dress that showed off her perfect figure, and it totally matched my clothes! Her hair was let down, and she looked beautiful that way.
"Hae-Ri, you look...stunning!" I whispered.
"Really? Komawo! You look really handsome too," she said, turning scarlet. (Thanks!)
I let out my hand, and she placed hers on top of mine. We gently wrapped our fingers around each other's. I smiled to myself, and led her towards the taxi.
...
We got out, and I payed for the drive, even though she insisted on splitting it. I would've agreed, but it wasn't like it was a major expense, so it didn't matter anyway. We stood outside the door for a few seconds, and walked in, hand-in-hand.
The ambience was extremely refreshing and calming at the same time. The restaurant was dimly lit, which made it even more romantic. Everything was very modern, and the colours played a crucial role in defining the mood. We found a table which was at a distance from the others, and decided to take a seat. I noticed that each chair had enough area for 2 people to sit.
The menus were laid out in front of us, and I motioned for Hae-Ri -who was sitting across me- to take a look at the options. Instead of doing so, she got up from her seat and jumped in with me instead. Our legs touched, and I felt an electric shock shoot up my thigh.
"Let's decide together, hmm?" she said, with a pretty smile that lit me up.
"Keurae," I agreed. (Sure)
She flipped open the menu, and asked me what I wanted to eat.
"I have a confession to make," I said seriously.
"Oh no, something hasn't happened, has it?" she asked with a sense of urgency.
"No no, it's pretty silly. The truth is, I had never heard of this place before, but I didn't want you to feel as though you are a burden to me, and that's why I lied. I'm sorry though," I admitted.
Hae-Ri didn't say anything for 2 seconds, and then she abruptly burst out laughing.
"God, you scared me! And I don't want you to worry about things like this in the future, okay? Always state your true opinion, you can be yourself around me, always," she told me.
"Mm, I will. I was just really nervous, you know?" I said, blushing.
She laughed, and tousled my hair, "Has anyone told you how cute you are when you smile?"
"You'd be the first," I said.
...
We ordered a platter, and joyfully ate our way through it. The delicious flavours melted in our mouths, and I savoured the delight.
"Do you like it?" Hae-Ri asked hopefully.
"Mmm. It's great, thanks for the recommendation," I said, and giggled, seeing that she had a bit on cheese stuck near her lower lip.
"Mweo? What's funny?" she asked, smiling. (What?)
"Ani, ani," I said, and reached out to wipe it off. (Nothing, nothing)
Our eyes locked, and we didn't look away. I was going to kiss her, but suddenly, before I even realised it, someone poured a glass of water over my head! It was icy and cold, and I shivered from the sudden shock. I didn't look up to see who it was, but Hae-Ri bolted up, and threw her Sangria at the woman.
"O-my-gaad! Whateu areu you doing u crajee girl?!" the woman screamed, in her horrible English accent. Immediately, I recognised the voice. Kim Yoo-Ra, that idiot!
"Don't you touch him, get lost! Who do you think you are, anyway?" Hae-Ri asked, getting excited and replying in English, too.
"His girlfriend, that what I am, who are you? Trying to make him cheat on me!" Yoo-Ra said, shoving her.
That was it. I wasn't going to let my drunken ex hurt my girlfriend.
"Kim Yoo-Ra, Hajimaligo!" I screamed, pulling Hae-Ri in. (Stop!)
"Oppa! What the hell are you doing here?! How dare you leave me for this ugly frog!" she yelled. (*Word used to address boyfriend*)
"That is it, shut up for once! You have no right to do this, you stalker!" I yelled back. I asked the waiter to bring the manager, and when he arrived, Yoo-Ra had to pay a fine and she was thrown out.
"Sir, we are terribly sorry for her ridiculous behaviour. We will repay you by giving you the offer to eat your meal for free. No need to pay, please forgive us," the manager apologised, and he seemed genuine. He even handed me a few towels to dry myself. Hae-Ri took them and rubbed them through my hair, and despite the water trickling down my eyebrows, Hae-Ri's concern felt warm.
"Of course, thank you. We shall leave now," I said, taking her arm.
Once we were out, Hae-Ri asked me, "What is it with her? Why is she always tagging along with you?" and she seemed hurt.
I turned towards her, "I am so sorry, Hae-Ri, I know our night got ruined because of her. The thing is, we used to date in my first year, and when I realised what she was like, I had to dump her. She doesn't seem to have gotten over it yet."
"You dated HER? Are you serious, Hae-Jun-A? Aigoo," she sighed. (Oh god)
"Maja? I must've been out of my mind," I agreed, embarrassed. We slowly walked through the busy streets of Seoul. (Right?)
"To be honest, I didn't want to bring this up, but I feel like I should let you know. My parents are getting divorced," she revealed.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. I had always thought that her life seemed to be perfect, but I guess everyone has their fair share of problems to deal with.
"Gwenchana. Aniyo, I'm actually not okay. My appa cheated on her, and she's going through a lot, so I have to stay strong," she said, wiping away the tears that had come to her eyes. (It's okay. No.)
I stopped walking, grabbed her wrist and pulled her in for a kiss. It was one of those kisses that young teenagers fantasised about. Hae-Ri was against the wall of a clinic, and I was leaning over her. We could hear the piercing sounds of car horns, but during that kiss, everything was forgotten. I couldn't see, hear, smell or feel anything other than her. I wanted her to know how much I loved her, and that I understood what it felt to get separated from a parent.
Jessica:
Hae-Ri spent 2 hours getting ready for her first date with Hae-Jun, and I was left alone. I admit that I was a bit envious that I had to deal with boredom even after having a boyfriend, but to my joy, Ho-Jin called me 5 minutes later.
"Jagiya, wanna meet up?" He asked in a husky voice. (Babe)
"Yeah I do! Where though?" I asked.
"Come to the basketball court, I've got ramen and seaweed soup for you, jagi," he said sweetly. (Babe)
I giggled, I loved it when he called me that.
"Keure. Jagiya," I snickered, and hung up. (Sure. Babe)
I quickly picked out my denim shorts and a baggy hoodie, brushed through my hair with my fingers, and went out to meet him.
...
"Aegi, I'm here!" I announced, when I saw him sitting under the tress on the cemented staircase. I saw that a few first-years were playing basketball. (Baby)
"Hey babe!" he got up and wrapped me in a hug.
"You like teasing me with that word, don't you?" I laughed.
"Animida," he said with a straight face. (Not all all)
"Jinja?" I asked sarcastically. (Really)
"Mmm. I'm so glad we're together," He smiled, flustering me.
"Na do," I grinned, my arms still wrapped around his waist. (Me too)
...
"I've never thought I'd be dating you, have you?" he casually asked while we were busy slurping our take-away raman and seaweed soup. It felt good to eat hot steamy food in the middle of winters. Christmas was around the corner.
"Not really. I've always looked at you as my best friend's elder brother," I said, matter-of-factly.
He nodded, "The truth is, you were always pretty."
He kept his plastic bowl on the stair behind us, and I automatically did the same. He reached over and tucked a strand of my short, blonde hair behind my ear. I looked him in the eye as he got closer. I didn't care that our juniors were watching. It didn't matter.
He gently kissed me, and I kissed him back. We were interrupted by one of the guys who had requested Ho-Jin to join their game, earlier.
"Hyung! What are you doing? You said you'd join us!" he yelled from the court. (*Word used to address elder brother/ male friend*)
"Yah! Take the hint I-Jun!" a girl -much smarter- screamed at him from behind. (Hey!)
"Mweo?" the guy called I-Jun asked, confused. (What?)
"You wanna go play?" I asked Ho-Jin, who had been staring at me.
"You wanna see me play?" he flirted.
"I wouldn't mind..." I flirted back, and smirked.
"Keure, watch me, aegi!" he said, kissing my forehead before running down to the court. (Alright, baby)
I thought about how quickly it all had happened. I was so happy.
