Chapter 9 - Knowledge is Power

The clan had been busy since the Bloodfang's warning attack, and most of the cats still bore marks from the rogues.

Dragonstar was fortunate enough not to lose any lives, but he was still worried about the oncoming attack.

Snakefang had organised battle training patrols, and the apprentices seemed to enjoy it, for they were fed up with getting moss for the elders.

Forestbrook had been busy collecting herbs with help from Quailkit, who showed interest in becoming a medicine cat apprentice.

Frostleaf was instructing Gorgekit to mend part of the camp barrier. He was very good at it, weaving brambles without hurting himself.

"Is it done now?" he asked. She nodded with a smile and told him to go back to the nursery.

There was a good supply of prey in the camp, and Frostleaf grabbed a vole to eat. As she bent down to take a bite, she saw Fourbeam and Goldenclaw talking to each other in hushed voices.

Fourbeam looked very agitated while Goldenclaw's tail was twitching.

Suddenly, someone crashed into her. Frostleaf growled in annoyance and saw Wavetail with a dazed look. "Sorry..." he sputtered as he ran off.

She sighed. Many of the cats in the clan was acting weird since yesterday, including Gorgekit. He had been willing to help out the elders that day and he had complained against it the previous day.

Maybe there are some things that StarClan doesn't want me to know, she thought as the deputy called her to go on a hunting patrol.

Stormwish and Boltstrike was the other members of the patrol, they had been waiting for her.

~~~~
They didn't say anything while out hunting, but they are obviously worried. Boltstrike kept looking behind him as if he thought that a rogue would sneak up on him.
Suddenly, Stormwish stopped walking and hissed, "There's an intruder!" They tensed up and Frostleaf saw a glimpse of green eyes.
The intruder came closer, unaware of them, ready to pounce. With a screech, Stormwish pounced onto the intruder, clawing clumps of fur.
He yowled in pain and tried to swipe at the she-cat but she was fast, pinning him down in a matter of heartbeats.
"Get out of our territory," she spat, narrowing her eyes angrily. "Wait!" Boltstrike mewed in a surprised tone. "This is Dustfoot!"
Stormwish released him. "Why are you doing here? You are not a member of this clan anymore."
Frostleaf looked confused and watched as the light gray tom mewed, "My name is Dusty now."
He looked at them hesitantly and asked, "How's the clan been doing?"
"None of your business!" Stormwish snarled. "You were exiled and you have no right to come into our territory after killing our former deputy!"
Frostleaf felt a sickening jolt. It sounded like the incident with Longdrop but in this one, Dusty looked guilty.
"I need prey," he begged. "The rogues took the rest of the unclaimed territory and I can't hunt anywhere else. Please let me have a piece of prey and I will leave."
Boltstrike opened his jaws to mew something but Stormwish beat him to it. "Our clan also needs prey!" she growled. "Get out now!"
Dusty tried to convince her but she raked her claws down his cheek. "Now!" she repeated fiercely.
He ran off, his fear scent getting stronger. "Why was Stormwish being so hostile to him?" Frostleaf asked Boltstrike, who sighed sadly.
"Dusty killed our deputy, Iceshadow, who is also her father," he explained. "He was all she had left and she always got angry whenever someone mention his name."
The sun began to set as Stormwish led them back.
~~~~

Frostleaf was having a nice dream about catching mice when it got disturbed. The beautiful forest from her dream fadded away and it was replaced with an island.

She turned around and saw Oakblaze walking towards her. She touched noses with him and asked, "Why am I here?"

"I bring a message," her father replied, "about the oncoming battle. Listen closely." Frostleaf nodded as he spoke.

"When the light meets blood, one will die," he mewed. "The death of the one will only be changed with the knowledge of power."

"What does it mean?" she asked. "And who exactly is Bloodfang?"

Oakblaze sighed. "All that I know is that he was of ThunderClan a long time ago. I'm sure he had another name, but there are some things had wouldn't want to reveal themselves to me. But you will know who is he, and not soon."

He put his paw gently on her shoulder. "I know that you have the bravery to save a clan that you are not borned to. Remember to see light even when it is dark. Good luck, you have always known it was the right thing to do."

"But I need answers!" she protested. "Like how did I fall unconscious when Fourbeam touched me!"

But her father have already gone. "Sometimes, not all answers have to show themselves for you to know," she heard Oakblaze whisper in her ear before she woke up.
