Chapter 10 - Battle between Light and Darkness

The sky began to grow dark, like the battle that is going to come. The clan was ready. What if it is not enough?  Frostleaf wondered as the last border patrol came back.

The forest seemed to fall silent as each heartbeat passed by. Dragonstar was standing at the Highrock, with the light of determination in his eyes.

"Whatever happens today," Goldenclaw whispered. "I am honoured to fight with you."

She nodded in acknowledgement. DragonClan have became almost like her birth clan, friendly and loyal.

Suddenly, the last ray of light that shone into the camp was cut off. A dark tom stood on a higher rock and he yowled, "Well, isn't it my favorite clan?"

Dragonstar growled, "We are ready for you!" Bloodfang laughed. "Funny, that many cats? You will be defeated easily."

Just as the last beam of light fadded away, Bloodfang yowled, "Rogues, attack!" Dragonstar pounced onto Bloodfang and yowled, "DragonClan, attack!"

The clearing became swarmed with cats. Frostleaf found herself fighting with Ripplelight as she swiped at every enemy she could.

A rogue managed to claw her ear but she retaliated with a heavy blow that dazed him momentarily. Blaststorm then tackled the dazed rogue while Frostleaf went to search for another rogue to fight.

The middle was thick with fighting, blood staining the ground. Streampelt was fighting three rogues at once, but it was obvious that he was weakening.

Frostleaf pounced onto one of them and aimed for the rogue's cheek. Blood flowed out of it as the rogue quickly rolled away from her and swiped, his blow connecting with her nose.

Frostleaf ignored the stinging pain in her wounds and ramed into the rogue without him expecting. The rogue lay motionless on the ground, but not dead.

Meanwhile, Dragonstar was having a hard time to defeat Bloodfang. The leader was already tired and weakened from the lost of blood while Bloodfang looked as if he had endless energy.

"Frostleaf!" Goldenclaw called, limping towards the medicine cat den. "Go help Dragonstar!"

She nodded quickly and fought through the wave of the rogues that blocked her way.

Frostleaf swiped at one sneaking behind her and kicked another that was being chased by Nutpelt. She ducked to let him attack another rogue beside her and threw a stray piece of moss at a rogue attacking Redcloud.

He got distracted and Redcloud took the chance to trip him, sinking her teeth near his throat with a growl.

The battle will not be won unless we kill Bloodfang, she thought as she reached closer to the Highrock.

Then she realised that the rogues closer to it was way tougher and stronger than the ones she fought just now.

Frostleaf was surrounded by three tough looking rogues, who bared their teeth at her. One of them sprung and she quickly dodged instead of pushing him back.

He growled and jumped as she swiped at him. She swiped faster and the tip of her claws caught his tail. She yanked onto it and the rogue yowled in pain, causing the other two to pounce towards her.

Both rogues crashed into her, knocking the breath out of her. "StarClan help me!" she screeched as they began clawing clumps of fur from her pelt. Blood began to flow from her wounds in her belly and she felt the world spinning around her.

Is this my end? she wondered. Just as she began to lose faith, a red and black shape pulled the rogues off her. It was Fourbeam! He bravely attacked them while Frostleaf got up and fought the third one.

She managed to chase the rogue away and went to help Fourbeam. He had already sent one of them running and the other one looked like he was about to give up.

As he swiped, she saw that his claws had tiny flames on them. "Why do you have flames on your claws?" she asked as he fought off the last one.

Fourbeam gave her his usual amber look. "It is faith in ourselves that StarClan came to help us," he replied. As he spoke, stary cats descended down from the skies.

They joined the battle and she heard surprised purrs. A red stary she-cat appeared next to her. "My name is Redripple," she mewed. "Your battle is with Bloodfang, go now."

Frostleaf nodded with determination and raced across the fighting cats. She pulled herself up the Highrock with much difficulty and faced the blood thirsty rogue.

Dragonstar was almost covered in blood, and motionless. Bloodfang turned to meet her. "What do we have here?" he growled. "Meet your death, you little apprentice!"

"I am a true warrior, unlike you!" Frostleaf spat as she crashed into the dark tom. She gave him a mighty swipe to his face but he was undaunted and raked his thorn sharp claws at her pelt.

"You will never defeat me!" Bloodfang snarled, swiping so fast that she couldn't dodge. His claws met her throat and when he pulled it out, blood thinly flowed out of it.

She felt dizzy and felt her eyes closing...

Frostkit happily hopped towards her mother, a light brown tabby. "Flowerfeather!  I have a question for you."

Her mother smiled and asked, "What is it?"

"Who is my father?" she asked. Flowerfeather flinched and mewed, "Why do you ask that question?"

"Redkit asked me," Frostkit replied, unaware of the situation. Flowerfeather sighed. "Come here, sit beside me. And don't wake up Ravenkit."

The young kit sat down as Flowerfeather mewed, "Your father is a brave cat. He had once told me this when we are apprentices: Flowerpaw, I know I love you, but my heart is torn with a decision. I have thought about it. I want to be with you, and with the other cat I loved. You have opened my heart to know that, there is always light in the darkest of nights."

Flowerfeather turned to her kit. "Promise me, that you will always believe that. To believe that there is always light in the darkest of nights."

The young kit nodded seriously. "I promise."

Ravenkit beckoned to Frostkit. "I got a dream from StarClan!" he mewed excitedly. "And the golden she-cat told me to tell you something."

Frostkit listened as her brother spoke, "She said that I am the night that accompanies you. You are the light that shows the path of the clan. Together, we are one. There is never light without darkness. There is never darkness without light. Together, both will be stronger than the greatest of warriors."

~~~~
"Wake up..." a soft, yet familiar voice mewed to Frostleaf. She opened her eyes and saw the DragonClan camp. The rogues were being held back but none of it mattered unless Bloodfang is killed.
A tiny black tom stood in front of her. "Ravenkit!" she yowled. Ravenkit gave her a warm smile.
"You are seeing what is happening now," the little kit explained. "Your body is in a state of trance so you are here. Do you understand why I am here?"
Frostleaf nodded seriously. "Yes, I do."
"Then, it shall be done," Ravenkit mewed in a voice wiser than his age. He touched noses with her and Frostleaf found herself back at the Highrock.
"Bloodfang!" she yowled. "Fight me!" Bloodfang saw her and laughed. "Well, you are not dead. Good for you because get ready to suffer before breathing your last!"
He sprung and Frostleaf braced herself. Suddenly, strength flooded her body. She felt her pelt getting slightly warmer and she gave the rogue a heavy swipe that sent him to the end of the Highrock.
"Impossible..." he rasped. "There is no way that you can do that."
"StarClan is on my side," Frostleaf growled. "You will face the true power of StarClan now!" As soon as she spoke, she sped forward and tore open his throat before he could react.
Bloodfang fell from the Highrock and lay below motionless. The strength that she had felt disappeared.
As she stared at the defeated enemy, she finally knew the meaning of a prophecy that she received a few moons ago.
Frostleaf have the power of stars in her paws.
------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: Bloodfang had a Dark Forest power that made him unable to grow older than 24 moons.
