Chapter 6
"Brightkit, how do you know where to hide? We just got out of the nursery. I don't even know where the warrior's den is!" Crystalkit yowled after her. Brightkit came to an abrupt stop.
"Yes you do. Iceleap showed you. It's right over there." Brightkit muttered, pointing with her tail to the hollow tree stump at the edge of the camp. "And keep quiet. We're going to sneak out of camp." Silverkit and Crystalkit stared at her in shock.
"But we're not allowed to!" Silverkit whispered. Brightkit rolled her eyes.
"Just because we're not apprentices doesn't mean we can't go outside of camp." Brightkit murmered back defiantly. Then she lowered her voice and whispered,"Besides, it's just for a little while. When they start yowling that they give up, we come back to camp. Come on. And be very quiet." The three kits padded through the shadows of the empty elders den and hid beneath a low bush that hid them perfectly. There was a tunnel in the leaves already, so the bush didn't rustle at all. As they slunk through the bush, Brightkit suddenly disappeared from sight.
"Brightkit!" Crystalkit gasped softly.
"Silverkit! Stop!" Brightkit hissed. The silver tabby was scampering towards the place that Brightkit disappeared. Hearing Brightkit's cry, Silverkit skidded to a stop in front of a tree covered in moss, still in the shelter of the bush. Brightkit whispered, "There's a dip. Tree roots shield the hole and moss is draping over it. There's a tear in the moss. Go through the tear!" Silverkit glanced nervously at Crystalkit, who shrugged. Silverkit took a deep breath, ducked, and walked through the curtain of moss. After blinking at the swaying moss for a few seconds, Crystalkit followed.
