Chapter 14
Silverkit blinked rapidly as she opened her eyes to blurry bright sunlight filtering through a wide crack in the rocks. She lifted her head, only to gasp in pain and set it back down again. She blinked a little more and the blurry sunlight cleared into focus. She recognized the crack in the rocks as the entrance to the medicine cat den. She heard pawsteps and looked up as much as she could to see Frostfoot, the often irritable medicine cat, pushing herbs toward her.
"Here. Eat these." he said gruffly. Silverkit sniffed them and wrinkled her nose.
"But they smell icky." she whined. Frostfoot snorted.
"Either eat them or be in pain like an elder all day. Your choice."
"Well...okay." Silverkit sighed, licking up the herbs and swallowing them. "Ick."
"That's what you get for sneaking out of camp and trying to hunt rats." Silverkit whimpered as she remembered how vicious the rats were as she fought them. That must be why she was in the medicine cat den. Then she remembered that she didn't battle them alone.
"Oh! Are Brightkit and Crystalkit okay?" she gasped.
"They're fine. Brightkit is sleeping right now. She's in the nest right next to you." Silverkit turned to look at Brightkit. She seemed fine. She was just covered in poultices and cobwebs just like Silverkit was.
Silverkit was about to ask Frostfoot what happened when Amberkit bounded in, followed by Iceleap.
"Look who woke up." Frostfoot grunted, flicking his tail towards Silverkit. Amberkit squeaked and bounded up to her, touching her nose to Silverkit's. "Hi! I'm glad you're awake!" she squeaked, then bounded up to Frostfoot, mewing, "Can you tell me which herbs you used for Silverkit again?" Frostfoot purred and replied, "How about you try to guess them first, to see what you can remember." They trotted off to the other side of the cave. Silverkit turned her head as Iceleap padded up to her.
