Chapter 25: Nutberry

It was a quiet sundown. Nutberry, the WaveClan medicine cat, watched the shimmering stars, where once mighty warriors now reside in StarClan.

It was half moon, the time where medicine cats of all Clans go to the Star Stone to speak with their warrior ancestors.

This meeting was important, as it was the last one before the rogue's attack. Nutberry hoped that StarClan could give her a sign that they are supporting the Clans.

She stood up and got ready to leave. "Leaving so soon?" Shellstar asked, emerging from his den.

"I am anxious what StarClan would say tonight," Nutberry explained. "They have been very quiet lately."

"I see," the WaveClan leader mewed. "Do you need a warrior escort? The foxes are still lingering somewhere, and they could target us next."

"I will be fine," Nutberry insisted. "I know how to fight. Don't you remember that I was once a warrior?"

"Yes, of course," Shellstar meowed, slightly amused. "It's just a precaution. In times like this, we need our medicine cat more than ever."

"Understood," Nutberry responded, walking towards the exit.

The journey to Star Stone was long and Nutberry needed to cross BrambleClan's territory to get to the Star Stone.

Flailstar never minded her crossing the border, but Nutberry felt uncomfortable to cross it. She sped up, not wanting to be late for the meeting.

As Nutberry padded past a tree, she spotted a familiar figure. "Echospring!" she called, causing the SunClan medicine cat to turn around.

"Oh, it's just you," Echospring meowed. "I thought Grasswind would catch up with me first."

Nutberry quickly looked around. There was no sign of the BrambleClan medicine cat.

"Let's talk later," Nutberry mewed, resuming her journey to Star Stone with Echospring padding after her.

They reached the end of BrambleClan territory and the start of an unnatural flat and slightly muddy land.

"It must have rained last night," Nutbrrry mused. In a louder voice she added, "Be careful of mud puddles."

There was no response from Echospring. The SunClan medicine cat looked dazed and lost in her own thoughts.

"Echospring, are you okay?" Nutberry questioned, concerned.

"Did you say something?" Echospring mumbled.

"I asked whether you were feeling okay," she replied, giving the other medicine cat a hard look. "It's not like you to be so..." she struggled to find the words to describe Echospring. "You get the point, right?"

"Yes," Echospring sighed, looking troubled.

Nutberry decided not to probe and continued heading forward towards the Star Stone.

It was not long until the magnificent waterfall came into view. The water looked like it contained stars - because of the reflection - and the rushing sound of the liquid gave Nutberry a sense of relief.

She preferred to think that the rushing sound of the waterfall was StarClan's call to the Clans and the water representing all of StarClan.

Nutberry put her paw on one of the stones as she heaved herself up the rocky slope to the cavern where the Star Stone was located.

She glanced at Echospring once in a while, afraid that she may slip and fall, but the SunClan medicine cat seemed to be doing just fine.

Nutberry took a deep breath and walked through the waterfall. A large, clear looking stone sat in the middle of the cavern, as though it was waiting expectantly for the medicine cats to arrive.

She shook off some of the water, careful not to splash the other medicine cats with freezing droplets.

Grasswind and Mistystream were already there. Echospring gave Mistystream a nod before settling down near Grasswind.

Luckily, Nutberry and Echospring were not late. The mystical stone was not lit up by the moonlight yet.

In a sudden flash, the Star Stone sprang into life, glimmering brighter than Nutberry remembered.

"Sweet dreams," Grasswind meowed before touching her nose to the stone. Echospring did the same.

Nutberry touched the ice-cold stone with her nose and fell asleep.

"Welcome," an unfamiliar voice greeted Nutberry when she found herself in StarClan.

She looked around and spotted a tom with friendly blue eyes. "Please, come and sit down," he invited.

Nutberry obeyed, sitting down beside the unknown tom. "Watch the sky," the tom instructed before Nutberry posed her lingering question.

With an inaudible sigh, the WaveClan medicine cat looked up. The sky began to change from a light blue to a darker hue.

The tom began to speak. "Legends speak of four legendary heros that saved the Clans, dating back to many hundred moons ago."

The sky showed four unknown shadowy cats fighting off a misty cloud that seemed to threaten the other cats.

The tom continued. "Many come and go, doing great deeds for the Clans. All of them. They save the Clans in various ways, including the Smoke Disaster."

Nutberry realised that the tom gave her a meaningful look before resuming his speech.

"Your previous four has shattered. A new four is only starting to rise," the blue eyed tom mewed, his tone becoming serious. "May the new four save you all."

"Who are the four?" Nutberry asked.

"One from each Clan," the tom explained slowly. "However, one cannot be certain who the four are."

The unknown tom started to leave. "Wait!" Nutberry called. "Who are you?"

The tom chuckled lightheartedly. "You decide."

Nutberry felt a sudden jolt of coldness and she found herself back in the Star Stone cavern, with the medicine cats looking down at her with concern.

How long was I out?

I'm pretty sure the current four is very obvious, so my question to you is: who are the previous four?

First one to answer gets a waffle. (>^^)> #
