Rosetail got up early and looked down at her three kits. She was so happy that their naming ceremony was later that day. When the sun rose, she went to her kits to wake them up she nuzzled them lightly. But they wouldn't move. "They didn't survive the night," Rosetail thought with tears in her eyes, then she heard a faint mew from the two older kits. She stalked over to them and saw a small black bundle moving in-between them. She grabbed it and ran over to the other to side of the nursery. She was crying but she suddenly knew she had to protect this kit with her life and keep it away from cats who would want to hurt it. When noon came around Rosetail walked out of the nursery and into the clearing. Leafstar was waiting on the ancient rock. He was shocked when he saw Rosetail only come out with one kit, but he shook his head and carried on. "From this day forward you shall be known as Nightkit." Rosetail smiled and walked off clutching Nightkit by the scruff of his neck.
