Nightkit sat in the corner of the nursery next to his mother, watching all the other kits playing with each other. He smiled slightly then cuddled up next to her. She started licking his head affectionately. She curled up around him and went to sleep. One of the other kits noticed and stalked over to him, "Hi," She called. Nightkit peered over his mother at the kit and smiled shyly. "Don't be shy," She called, "Come on over here its ok." Nightkit crawled over his mother slowly and jumped off her back. "Come join us," The kit meowed. He shook his head but before he could open his mouth the kit pounced on him. He jumped out of the way and threatened to pounce, but he moved slowly. 'It's fun but a bit scary,' Nightkit thought. The kit meowed, "Come on let's join the others." Nightkit hesitated but followed her. All the kits ran over to him and chatted but he didn't reply just nod or shake his head. So most of them left and dragged the two away who wanted to stay. Nightkit almost cried, "Oh, well," He thought with a sigh and walked over to his mother curled up next to her. "Where were, you honey," Rosetail asked.

Nightkit pointed his tail towards were all the other kits were, "There," He whispered. Rosetail nodded and curled her tail around him. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

"Hello?"

Nightkit jumped from his slumber, "Who's there," He called.

"I believe you know me Nightkit," The strange voice replied.

"I don't think I do."

"Of course, you do," As the voice said that a cat walked out into the starlit clearing.

Nightkit gasped, "Sunstar!"

Sunstar smiled, "You do know me, don't you?" He asked. Nightkit nodded, with his jaw practically on the floor. "You need to listen," Sunstar's smile was now gone, "Rosetail will tell that your gift is from the Dark forest but never forget that she will be lying to you, your gift is from us in Starclan please never forget this." Sunstar mewed and then started disappearing.

"Wait," Nightkit called, "What's this gift?"

Sunstar just smiled and disappeared.

Nightkit jumped, "That was all a dream," He thought, "Thank Starclan." He was still rather confused about what Sunstar had said about his mother. He shook his head. "Are you ok?" Rosetail asked urgently.

"Yes, I'm fine mom."

"Are you sure Nightkit?"

"Yes, I'm sure mom I promise," He whispered.

Rosetail nodded, "Please don't scare me like that again."

"Ok," He replied and closed his eyes pretending to sleep. Rosetail sighed and started talking to Bushpelt about the clans and gatherings. "Nobody wants to be my friend," Nightkit thought. He stayed awake the whole night thinking, he finally went to sleep. "Good morning," Rosetail purred. Nightkit blinked awake. "You can go outside, with all the other kits," She mewed. He smiled and started to walk out of the nursery. All the other kits went to the elders or warriors to play even to the apprentices. One of the apprentices with a golden coat and orange wavy stripes approached him, "Hello there," She called. Nightkit looked around him to see who she was talking to. "Yes you," She meowed. She walked up to him and sat down. "What's your name?" She asked, "I'm Goldenpaw."

He whispered, "I'm Nightkit."

"Wow such a cool name," Goldenpaw meowed.

Nightkit smiled shyly.

"Is this your first time out of the nursery?"

Nightkit nodded. They spoke for hours on end until dusk. "I need to go see you later." He frowned. "Don't worry I'll be back tomorrow promise." Nightkit nodded and watched Goldenpaw walk off to the apprentice den. He turned around and walked into the nursery.
