Chapter 10

Wolfpaw collapsed on to his bedding. He still couldn't believe his ears. Half Clan? A medicine cat? How could any cat betray their own Clan like that and lie about it to everyone who was always there for you? Wolfpaw had feelings for Harmonypaw, but he'd never betray his Clan.

When he reopened his eyes, he was in the tree covered sky forest. He quickly made his way to where the StarClan border was. Did any cat in here betray the warrior code that way? Did any of them have mates from other Clans?

He skidded to a stop when he saw the brown speckled pelt of Mousepelt. She turned her head to face him over her shoulder.

"So, I take you changed your mind?" The ShadowClan warrior flicked her tail.

"Shut up," Wolfpaw hissed, "where's Leafpool?"

The she-cat blinked then her blue eyes began to blaze. "Did you just tell me to shut up?" she spat, making Wolfpaw lower himself. "I've shut myself up since the day I died! I even joined the Dark Forest because I was shut out of the world I knew! You're not the only one who's suffered in life!"

"Mousepelt!" a golden brown tom ran over to her side, his green blue eyes worried. "Relax... He didn't anything by it." he then looked to Wolfpaw. "What do you want with Leafpool?"

"I have a few questions to ask her!" Wolfpaw finally regained his courage. "You want me to be leader, there are some things I'd like to know about my Clan's past!"

Hesitantly, the golden brown tom sighed and began making his way to the inner part of StarClan. Wolfpaw followed, but looked back to Mousepelt.

"Do you just stand there all day and night?" the apprentice asked.

"Where would you send me if I helped a bunch of Dark Forest cats?" Mousepelt asked him.

Wolfpaw lowered his ears. She had kits, a mate, and friends here. Did the rest of StarClan just leave the judgement to them?

The silver tom shook his head and followed the golden brown tom.

When they came to a group of cats, Wolfpaw made his way to where Leafpool lied next to her sister Squirrelflight.

"Hey!" Wolfpaw spat making all the cats around him jump. "What's wrong with you? You abandon your Clan for a tom, who stopped loving you a long time ago?"

"Wolfpaw, be still!" Hazelnose trotted over quickly.

"Not now, Hazelnose!" Wolfpaw glanced at his mother before glaring back to Leafpool. "When your Clan needed you the most, you turn your back on them for a WindClan cat, not to mention you're a medicine cat! You weren't even supposed to have kits, or a mate!"

Leafpool looked at him for a moment before licking her paw and drawing it over her ear. "Are you saying my kits should have never been born?"

"I'm saying you should've told the truth!" Wolfpaw snarled. "You made your own sister raise them under a lie, you lied to your Clan for no good reason, you made your sister's mate leave her because of the lies, you made your only daughter run away, and-"

"Enough!" Wolfpaw spun to see a dark gray she-cat walk up to him, her yellow eyes blazing and flat face in a scowl. "Mistakes happen! Not every medicine cat does the right thing for the right reasons! I too had kits as a medicine cat, but I loved them, even if I didn't raise them!"

"I don't care!" Wolfpaw spat. "You made an oath to StarClan and you just turned your back on it for your own selfish reasons!"

"And what about other cats who break the codes?" Bluestar stepped up. "I broke the code, but I didn't want to, none of us did, we can't help who we fall in love with, young apprentice, you should know what that feels like."

Wolfpaw looked away. He still wouldn't turn his back on the code, or ThunderClan, for Harmonypaw. "I know that I can't stop how I feel, but I can make the right choices! I'd stay by my Clan's side, I'd stay by my kits side, and I'd tell the truth! Lies only hurt the ones you love. And I should know, my mother was lied to by Goosetail. Now look what's happened!"

"We... Cannot control what Goosetail does... What we do know is how much you must learn to be a great leader," Leafpool mewed calmly, "it's the only way we can make the lake happy again."

"So all of you will be happy and I'll be miserable?" Wolfpaw growled.

"I see..." Wolfpaw looked to see Foxkit, Hazelnose, and Berrybush look to him sadly. "We didn't know you felt that way..." they all turned and began making their way from the group along with all the others.

"No, wait! I didn't mean-" Wolfpaw began to cry out.

Suddenly, Hazelnose stopped and looked around. Bluestar turned and went to retrieve her.

"My kit!" Hazelnose shrieked. "Bluestar, please, we have to tell him!"

"He thinks we're all traitors, very well, he can take care of himself!" Bluestar hissed as she ushered Hazelnose away.

When Wolfpaw began to follow after, his paws felt wet and it raised to his belly fur. Was StarClan flooding? There was no water under his paws. He was still asleep in his den in ThunderClan. The camp was flooding!
