Chapter 15

"ThunderClan cats!" a short silver tabby tom hissed.

"What are they doing here?" a white she-cat with brown spots asked, unsheathing her claws.

Wolfpaw recognized Antpaw and Applepaw from the Gathering. Both apprentices looked at each other and the silver tom realized they were probably thinking about Silverpaw.

"Please, we got trapped down there and we were looking for a way out!" Wolfnose explained. "Just let us go!"

"No way!" Antpaw hissed. "You're in our territory! You must be punished!"

"Let's take them to Minnowstar," the silver tabby told his Clanmates, "he'll know what to do with them!"

They grabbed Wolfpaw, Meadowpaw, and Poundpaw by their scruffs and dragged them to the middle of their patrol. Meadowpaw pressed close to Poundpaw as Antpaw and Applepaw glared at them. The two apprentices were big and looked like they had seasons of training. They would probably be warriors soon. The RiverClan cats spoke to one another as they made their way to their camp. The silver tabby was Carpfin and the white brown spotted she-cat was Brightstream. Wolfpaw tried to keep a calm exterior, but the thought of him going to RiverClan camp frightened him. Would StarClan be mad with him for getting caught?

The cats padded through a swampy marsh as the smell of dead fish and smelly cats filled Wolfpaw's senses. He turned to see Poundpaw and Meadowpaw trying to hold back a sickening wail.

Just hang in there a little more, Wolfpaw urged, they can't keep us here forever.

He almost tripped when the patrol walked in to a camp. A fresh-kill pile, made mostly of fish, sat in the middle. Cats sat outside a den sharing tongues and eating the prey. Wolfpaw turned too smell the rest of the Clan. Elders were sound asleep in their den while kits played, or mewled in the nursery. The medicine cat, Rollingrock, was teaching her apprentice, Harmonypaw, what herbs to use for tooth ach. Minnowstar was speaking to his deputy, Snappingtongue, about the next patrol.

"Keep an eye on these three," Carpfin ordered the RiverClan apprentices, "we're going to go speak to Minnowstar!" he and Brightstream stormed to the leader's den. Antpaw and Applepaw turned to glare at Wolfpaw, Meadowpaw, and Poundpaw. Meadowpaw tried hiding herself behind Poundpaw, but the brown tom jerked away from her with a scowl.

Wolfpaw wished Foxkit was here with him, so he could show the sharp apprentice how to treat his sibling. Lowering his ears, Wolfpaw saw the sun was already beginning to set. They would have spent two days away from ThunderClan. He looked over to Antpaw and Applepaw and saw they had unsheathed their claws. Panic over came him. They weren't actually thinking about killing them were they? Wolfpaw couldn't let that happen, he still had moons and moons of training to do before he became a warrior. Meadowpaw and Poundpaw were staring at the two shocked and their ears were back. Poundpaw was slowly beginning to bare his teeth at the RiverClan apprentices. Wolfpaw would have to step in and stop them.

Luckily, Minnowstar walked out his den, his dark amber like eyes blazing. Brightstream and Carpfin headed over and retrieved their apprentices as their leader jumped up on a smooth stone. Snappingtongue sat down below him, her green blue eyes seeming to cut Wolfpaw open like prey. Meadowpaw and Poundpaw carefully went to stand behind Wolfpaw, fear showing in their eyes.

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the rock!" Minnowstar snarled. Cats began to come out their dens and start gathering under their dark grey leader. "These three apprentices came from ThunderClan, saying they got trapped in the tunnels! Does any cat by this?" the Clan erupted in accusations pointed at Wolfpaw and his companions.

"They're probably here to spy!" Stormtail hissed, his dark grey fur bristling and claws unsheathed.

"Why would ThunderClan want to spy on you fish faces?" Poundpaw defended himself.

"We hear the stories, all of you are defendants of kittypets!" Brightstream shot back. "You're just a bunch of conniving cats who don't know your place!"

"We have nothing to do with ThunderClan's past!" Meadowpaw retorted. "We're just new apprentices, who want to go home!"

"Alright, then don't drink from the lake!" Snappingtongue yowled. Wolfpaw looked to the RiverClan deputy confused. Every Clan needed water, not just those who could swim! "And don't steal our fish!"

"We're not stealing anything!" Poundpaw unsheathed his claws. "And why would we want your filthy, stinking fish?"

"You tell us!" Rowantail challenged.

Just when Wolfpaw was about to break up a fight, a loud yowling was heard and the Clan turned to see Silverpaw at the apprentice's den. Her blue eyes blazing as she glared at her denmates.

"Applepaw, Antpaw!" she shrieked. "Why didn't you wake me? And what's Wolfpaw doing here?"

"He and these three... Got in to our territory, Silverpaw..." Antpaw trembled.

"We brought them here, so... Minnowstar would know what to do with them..." Applepaw pressed close to the tom next to her.

"Silverpaw, they are trespassers and must be punished!" Minnowstar looked down at the apprentice with respect.

"Not Wolfpaw!" Silverpaw retorted, going to stand next to the silver tom. "Have you seen the way he jumps? It's like he's not stubby legged! With an apprentice like him, ThunderClan would give anything to get him back, adding to get these two!" she pointed at Poundpaw and Meadowpaw. "Let's just keep them hostage, until ThunderClan gives something to us of equal value!"

"How dare you?" Poundpaw turned on her. "We're not staying here!"

"Too bad!" Minnowstar hissed. "Until ThunderClan gives us something for you, then you're stuck here! Silverpaw, take them to the medicine den, they'll stay there for now!"

Wolfpaw couldn't do anything. It was three apprentices against a whole Clan. How could they fight their way out? He looked to Meadowpaw and Poundpaw, who were shaking in fear and anger.

Silverpaw purred as she tapped Wolfpaw on his shoulder with her tail and started making her way to the medicine den. Lowering his head, Wolfpaw followed with Poundpaw and Meadowpaw close behind. Accusations toward ThunderClan were given as the apprentices walked by. How can any of these fools believe they were sent to spy? Was RiverClan keeping something from the other Clans? Were fish scarce in the lake? Was the water going low?

Wolfpaw searched the silver she-cat before him, but saw no signs of fear. Only signs of delight as her tail wagged happily.

Rollingrock eyed the apprentices as they neared and Harmonypaw just looked on uncomfortably.

"I'll go look for some moss for you three to drink," Rollingrock stood, "I don't want any ThunderClan cats drinking from our Lake." she flicked her tortoise-shell tail and stormed out of camp, leaving her apprentice and the others.

Harmonypaw seemed to look at Silverpaw with unease. What was going on between these two?

"You know," Silverpaw purred, making the medicine cat apprentice flinch, "I think it would be very useful of you to get some herbs for these three, their pads might be cracked."

"Yes, Silverpaw," Harmonypaw bowed her head. She turned and Wolfpaw noticed the she-cat was searching for the entrance with her whiskers before she clumsily disappeared in to the medicine den.

"What's her issue?" Poundpaw asked, nodding his head after the apprentice.

"She's blind." Silverpaw put bluntly. Wolfpaw's eyes widened. RiverClan had a blind cat. What would happen if she fell in the stream, or lake? "I'll get you some fresh-kill!" Silverpaw changed the subject, gliding her tail down Wolfpaw's back, before running off to the fresh-kill pile. Poundpaw and Meadowpaw glared after the RiverClan apprentice, then eyed Wolfpaw, who just shrugged and rolled his eyes. Out of all the cats in RiverClan, Silverpaw was the one who frightened him the most.

The sun was setting and RiverClan was starting to head for their dens. Wolfpaw pawed at the squirrel Silverpaw brought him. She didn't bring anything for Poundpaw and Meadowpaw. Wolfpaw tried offering them the squirrel, but they refused to eat anything that was caught by RiverClan.

Mossear was the first warrior on guard to watch the ThunderClan cats. Her amber eyes glowering on them as they curled up.

As Wolfpaw was about to doze off with Poundpaw's slow breathing, something began prodding his flank. Perking his ears, Wolfpaw turned to see Harmonypaw staring blindly at him, with worry in her light blue eyes.

"Don't trust Silverpaw!" she whispered. Wolfpaw was about to speak, but the medicine cat apprentice lifted her paw for silence. "You're destiny with her will cause nothing but heart ache and hurt! Be cautious with her. The prophecy you have with her will end in war!"

"What are you talking about?" Wolfpaw asked, groggy with sleep.

"Beware the Silver Storm," Harmonypaw whispered in a voice that almost made Wolfpaw cry out in fright, "it will bring down the Silver Wolf!"
