Chapter 6
Silvershy's POV:
Silvershy pelted down the riverside, her claws sending damp soil flying in all directions. A snarl of annoyance erupted behind her, the breath of the black she cat warming her tail already.
The log was so close! Silvershy lashed her tail closer to her body, taking a sharp turn towards the water. As her paws slipped over the edge of dry land she jumped, sailing high into the air. When she landed, only her forepaws hit the log. The silver she cat dug hee claws into the wet bark, her lower body dangling into the foaming water.
The black she cat stumbled to a halt at the edge of the river, a yowl of disbelief leaving her lips. "You coward!"
Silvershy ignored the rogue, her hind legs scrambling and churning to get herself out of the water and safely ontop of the log. Had she been fresh out of her warrior duties, she'd easily be able to make it to safety. But with countless moons of being imprisoned and her bloated belly weighing her down, she feared the water would take her.
The water was so much colder now that it wasn't just her tongue feeling it. Her claws ached with the pressure of trying to hold herself on the log. She barely noticed the black she cat following her down the river with the intent to kill.
Just as her claws slipped and she fell under the water, pale green mist surrounded her and pulled her up into the air. On the other side of the river stood Spectrum, her forepaws raised in the air to bring Silvershy to safety. The rogue let out a low growl from the opposite side, barking a string of angry curses at the Promethean.
Silvershy was set down on solid ground, panting and heaving in exhaustion. Shivers tormented her drenched body and she huddled into a ball to find any kind of warmth.
"I thought I told you to stay in the den." Spectrum growled, ignoring Silvershy's quiet whimpers for help. Instead the Promethean blinked across the river, leaving Silvershy alone to fend for herself against the elements. The silver she cat looked across the river to see Spectrum capture the black furred rogue in a net of her pale green mist, holding her back. "You can't escape that easily! Where are your friends?"
The black she cat smiled, her stunning green eyes gliding silently towards Silvershy. Spectrum followed the rogue's gaze, her eyes widening slightly. "Silvershy look out!" She screeched, letting go of the rogue.
Silvershy turned her head just in time to see a light brown tom looming over her. His green eyes bore down upon her, gleaming with triumph. He looked strangely familiar. The silver she cat's heart leapt in her throat as she stared up at the tom, her eyes wide in shock. There's no way.. He looks like.. "Eagleflight!" She cried suddenly. "You're alive!"
The brown tom was thrown off-guard. "What? I'm not Eagleflight. Who are you?" He stood his ground, his lips curling back to reveal his fangs. "Is that a Clan name? Are you part of the Clans?" His voice was filled with a strange hatred at the mention of the Clans, he obviously had a problem with them.
Spectrum's presence suddenly loomed over her, shielding Silvershy from the brown tom. "Have you got a problem with the Clans?" The Promethean demanded, glaring at him.
The pale brown tom growled. "Yes, based on the fact that our Clanborn mother abandoned us the moment we were born." His tail gave a single lash as he glared back at Spectrum, his green eyes- which perfectly mirrored the other she cat's ones- narrowed to slits.
Silvershy was left speechless, trying desperately to piece together the puzzle. This rogue looked so familiar, and his eyes matched the black she cat's. They were related. Faded memories poked at Silvershy's mind, but she could barely make them out. As Spectrum opened her mouth to say something, Silvershy interrupted her. "Do you have a brother?" She stuttered, staring up at the brown tom from the shelter of Spectrum's belly, cowering there like a kit.
"Why do you ask?" The rogue demanded, glancing behind him as the black she cat approached them. She was drenched with water. Had she crossed the river just to get a better look at them, or to back up her friend if a fight broke out?
"We have a brother." The black she cat answered for the brown tom. "Now why are you asking?"
An image flashed in Silvershy's mind. Three kits laying helplessly at her belly, newly born and crying for milk. However, the moment she saw the image, it vanished from her mind, erased from her memory. Who are these cats? Why are they messing with my mind so much?
A brown paw waved in front of her face, which was quickly swatted away by Spectrum. Silvershy looked up at the brown rogue. He was identical to Eagleflight, except for his green eyes. The familiarity made the silver she cat uneasy, and she found herself unable to say anything.
Spectrum took over for her. "You two are leaving this forest and never coming back. It's ours now."
The black she cat snorted with laughter, and the brown tom hissed. "I don't think so. You and your delusional friend are leaving, or you'll have an army of cats here to take you out with force."
"How many cats make up your 'army?'" Spectrum growled. "Five? Six? I can take whoever you have to offer."
"Try two dozen battle-ready cats." The tom meowed, grinning as Spectrum was left in stunned silence. Even Silvershy was surprised. Spectrum was powerful, but there was no way she could take on that many cats at once; she was no Zeye.
"I want to see your brother." Silvershy decided, once again shifting the focus onto her.
"Not without a valid reason." The brown tom hissed, growing angry. It was clear he was trying to tame his temper, but Silvershy's pestering made it impossible.
Even Spectrum had grown impatient with Silvershy. "What's your problem, Silvershy?" The Promethean demanded with a sigh.
Silvershy clawed at the ground. "I need to see your brother." She meowed.
"WHY?" The black she cat shoved past her brother to stare Silvershy in the face. "You're crazy! Just tell us why!"
"Don't be crazy, Silvershy! You can't give them away!" Nutwhisker hissed at the silver she cat. "They are your kits!"
A gasp left Silvershy's lips. "Nutwhisker." She breathed, staring at her paws. "Nutwhisker! You were there!"
Spectrum's paws were suddenly around Silvershy, pulling the pregnant she cat away from the two rogues. "We're leaving. Now."
"That's right," the brown tom snarled, "and don't come anywhere near our territory again!"
"Don't come anywhere near me!" Nutwhisker snarled at Silvershy, backing away from her. "You're sentencing these kits to death by leaving them here in twolegplace!"
"I'm saving them from the Dark Forest! From Eagleflight's fate!" Silvershy cried out loud, causing Spectrum to pause suddenly.
"Shut up!" The brown tom stormed right up to Silvershy. "Just shut up! I don't care about your crazy delusions!"
"My kits!" Silvershy cried. "I left my kits in twolegplace!" She stared up at the brown tom. "You're my kits!"
