Chapter 4

Blossomfur's POV:

"Come on you two." Flare purred at her litter. "Follow me." Smokekit and Solarkit stumbled after their mother, following the winged she cat towards Blossomfur and her kits.

"Do we get to play with our new friends now?" Flinkit asked with round eyes as he crawled out of the nest. "I've always wanted to play with them."

"Mumma says they have magical paws!" Cinderkit squeaked while climbing over her brother eagerly.

Blossomfur rolled her eyes, looking up at Flare as the Enforcer settled down beside her. "Do they have Zephyr's powers?" She queried with a curious twitch of her whiskers.

"No signs yet." Flare replied. "But they're young, Zephyr says they aren't expected to show anything yet." The golden she cat stretched slightly with a sigh. "I don't know how you do this for so long, I'm exhausted."

"I find walks outside quite refreshing." Blossomfur meowed, glancing at the kits as they cautiously nosed each other.

The two little she cats were beautiful, and it made Blossomfur jealous. Solarkit had Flare's pelt; a stunning and bright orange. Smokekit was grey, but had an amazing streak of orange fur over her face. Their eyes were both a piercing yellow, just like their mother.

Flare noticed Blossomfur's gaze on her kits. "They're beautiful aren't they." She murmured.

"They are." Blossomfur forced a smile on her face. "Do you think they'll receive their wings?"

Flare's smile widened considerably. "Solarkit has some little growths on her back. Her wings should sprout by the time she's seven moons old." The orange she cat let out a giddy laugh, her forepaws shifting excitedly. "I can't wait to teach her how to fly.." She paused, her yellow gaze turning to her own permanently injured wings. "Or maybe Strike will."

"Either way I think she'll turn into a wonderful flyer." Blossomfur reassured with a smile.

The two queens turned their attention to their kits, their conversation fading into silence. Shadowkit and Flintkit were busy squabbling while Cinderkit carefully inspected Solarkit and Smokekit. The two younger she kits sat patiently as Cinderkit sniffed curiously at them. Blossomfur sighed. Although this was their first meetup, the kits had already seen each other many times before. They were acting like they were meeting complete strangers.

"I wanna play!" Smokekit grinned, jumping on Cinderkit suddenly. The older she kit squealed and fell over ad Solarkit joined her sister. The three kits proceeded to take part in an intense war which slowly captured Shadowkit and Flintkit's attentions too.

Blossomfur smiled as her three kits dominated Flare's litter. It was expected, of course, her kits were older. Flare's were only barely a moon old. Although, despite their size disadvantage, Solarkit and Smokekit quickly made up new approaches to try and win the mini battle. The two she kits both went for Cinderkit, the weaker of the litter, and sent the little grey she kit pelting back to her mother within heartbeats.

Blossomfur let Cinderkit hide in her belly fur, biting back a rude remark about how she was a weakling for retreating. Hopefully when she is apprenticed, her mentor will make her stronger. The cream she cat looked down at Cinderkit. Mentally and physically.

"We're equally matched now!" Solarkit squeaked, her tail lashing with excitement as she faced Shadowkit and Flintkit.

"But we'll still win!" Shadowkit smirked down at the younger kits. "We'll squash you in one pounce!"

"Try and catch us then!" Smokekit suddenly took off in one direction, her sister haring away in the other. Shadowkit and Flintkit had no other choice but to split up and pelt after the two runaway she kits.

Blossomfur chuckled as the four future warriors sped around the den at top speed. Flare also chuckled, her yellow eyes rolling. "This'll get some of the energy out of them."

"Definitely." Blossomfur meowed, letting out a snort of laughter as Shadowkit kicked up moss in all directions while chasing down Solarkit. The moss rained down upon Bluesnow and her kits, making them squeak in fear of the flying pieces. "It's just moss." Blossomfur called over to them. "There's no need to fear, it won't hurt you."

Bluesnow sent Blossomfur a glare while she tried to calm her kits down, and much to the cream she cat's disappointment, Bluesnow didn't reply to her mockery.

"Better luck next time." Flare murmured.

Blossomfur looked up at the nursery tunnel entrance to see Shadeheart step tentatively into the cave. She frowned, immediately feeling his warm golden gaze on her. Flare noticed the tension that had suddenly sprung up between the warrior and his mate and got up, retreating to her nest to avoid being in the middle of their fight. Luckily the kits continued to play in the other end of the den, oblivious to the sudden change in atmosphere.

"Blossomfur." Shadeheart began, staying frozen at the arching den entrance.

Blossomfur stayed in her nest, but she motioned for him to come to her. The route he had to take to get to her nest brought him right beside Bluesnow. Blossomfur wanted to see if he had learned his lesson or not.

Shadeheart padded across the den, his sorrowful gaze glued to her. He did not once look away, he ignored every other cat in the den, as if he were pretending they were the only two cats there.

In silence, Shadeheart settled into the nest with her, his eyes already drooping closed in exhaustion. It was understandable, as he hadn't gotten a wink of sleep the night before. Blossomfur snuggled up to him, her tail wrapping possessively around the black tom as he fell into a deep sleep.

Good. Blossomfur smiled down at the young sleeping tom. You are once again mine. And mine alone.
