Chapter 27: Final

Silvershy's POV:

The silver she cat let out a cry as the second kit arrived. This one was quieter than it's brother. Wind licked the kit clean before placing her at Silvershy's belly. "A beautiful she cat just like you." The healer smiled.

Silvershy purred at her second kit. She was an exact mirror of her mother; with short, silver tabby fur. However the small she kit also had Tyler's bright blue horns on her head. The horns were barely visible- simply two little stubs between her ears. The silver queen nuzzled her two kits. They reminded her so much of their father. The yearning to go see Tyler was unbearable, more so than ever before.

"How many more kits is she gonna have?" Ebony asked sharply, peering closer at the kitting she cat. Silvershy frowned at her daughter's negative tone, but said nothing.

Wind felt around Silvershy's belly. Everything was quiet, the pain had subsided. It was as if the kitting was over, but both the healer and queen knew it wasn't over yet. Silvershy could tell that there was still at least one more kit waiting to burst out into the world. Wind confirmed her suspicions with a nod, "One more kit is on its way. It'll be a big one."

The silver she cat took a deep breath, calming her racing heart in preparation for the final kit. It didn't take long before the pain returned, and it was as fierce as before- if not, worse. But like the first two kits, the agony left almost as soon as it had started and within a few heartbeats the third and final kit was placed at Silvershy's belly. A large black and blue she cat. She looked identical to her father, it was breathtaking.

"Congratulations Silvershy." Wind murmured, leaning back to give her space to nurse her new litter. "Three strong and healthy kits."

"Thank you so much." Silvershy whispered, her voice raspy from the ordeal. She was so grateful Wind had been there to help, even though the kitting had been such a breeze. The LightClan warrior turned back to her kits. All three of them were suckling happily, their little paws pawing at her belly rhythmically.

Finally, some kits I can keep, and raise myself. Silvershy purred, glancing up at the darkening sky. If only I were in forest with my Clanmates around me... Safe from the Dark Forest's clutches.

"But that day will come soon." She promised herself quietly. "I will return to my Clan and free them from NoName."

Shadeheart's POV:

The weight of his crimes crushed him internally. He couldn't even bring himself to stand up. Shadeheart had no clue how much time had passed, he was still hugging Blossomfur's body close to him, filling his senses with her scent. She was the same cat he loved but... Her body was cold now, unmoving.. And her sweet smell was already turning dull, overwhelmed by the sharp, sour scent of the dried blood that coated her cream furred body. Death hung heavy in the air.

Cinderkit was asleep at his chest, curled up between her parents. The dark furred tom drew in a sharp breath as he looked at his kit. How could she be so calm in a time like this? She was a kit who had just lost her mother! Shadeheart yearned for Cinderkit's neutral composure. She will be a strong warrior when she grows up.

"Shadeheart?" A she cat's voice whispered above him, the soft sound of pawsteps reaching his ears. "W-What happened?" Her voice trembled in shock.

Shadeheart lifted his head, his golden eyes turning to the she cat. "Bluesnow." He murmured, meeting her deep blue gaze. "What are you doing here?"

"You've been gone for a while..." The blue furred she cat mumbled. "...Your kits were looking for you." She stepped to the side to reveal Shadowkit and Flintkit. The two kits hid fearfully at the blue she cat's legs, their eyes wide as they stared at Blossomfur's dead body.

Shadeheart leaned away from Blossomfur, rising to a standing position on trembling legs. His jaws were still sticky with his mates blood, his paws were crusted in it too. "I killed her, Bluesnow. I'm a murderer." He whispered, not looking at the blue she cat directly. "I-I had no choice she was going to-"

He was cut off when Bluesnow brushed her muzzle against his, silencing his soft mews. "You're not a bad cat Shadeheart." She murmured. "You're no murderer. You did what had to be done."

"You don't even know what happened." He responded weakly, letting his head rest gently against her's.

"I know enough just by looking at you." Bluesnow meowed, licking his cheek clean of Blossomfur's dried blood. "No one will blame you, even Blossomfur will understand why you did this."

Shadeheart shook his head and wept. "No she'll never forgive me." He crumpled to the floor again, but this time he was caught by Bluesnow's soft blue fur as she crouched down to meet him.

"She will forgive you Shadeheart." Bluesnow promised, comforting the grieving tom. "And right now, you have three kits who are without their mother. You need to be there for them."

The two cats turned in unison to Cinderkit, Shadowkit and Flintkit. Cinderkit had awoken, and had joined her littermates as they cried for their deceased mother. Shadeheart felt a pang of saddness for his kits, rather than himself. He had ripped their mother away from them at such a young age. They were barely old enough to be apprenticed and they were forced to deal with the loss of Blossomfur.

Shadeheart shuffled closer to his kits, wrapping himself around them in an attempt to comfort them. The three snuggled gratefully into his warm embrace, each crying their own quiet tears of grief. "I'm sorry." He murmured to them. "I'm so sorry."

"She was mean." Cinderkit whispered, her head dipped sadly. "But she cared for us."

"I want her back." Flintkit whimpered, his muzzle pushed into Shadeheart's fur to hide his face. "Please make her come back!"

"I can't do that." Shadeheart mumbled, his ears drooping. "I really wish I could..."

"But she was a bad influence." Bluesnow murmured, still hovering behind the grieving family. "For all of you. She manipulated you, Shadeheart. She played with your emotions. And that is what got her killed."

Shadeheart's tail lashed in sudden anger, causing Bluesnow to fall silent. I don't want to hear any of that when Blossomfur's death is still so fresh in our minds. He swallowed thickly. I'm sick of cats insulting her all the time, even right after her death. Only Shadeheart and his kits really cared for Blossomfur, everyone else seemed unaffected. It made his stomach churn, but he didn't have the energy to do anything about the matter.

"Everyone up." Zephyr strolled up to the gathered cats, his deep red eyes glancing at Bluesnow, narrowing. He didn't say anything to the queen, however, all he did was seize Blossomfur's body in his jaws and began dragging her away.

Shadeheart jumped up to stop the Enforcer. "W-What are you doing?"

"Direct orders from your mother." The grey Promethean shrugged, letting Blossomfur's body flop heavily onto the ground again. The thud made Shadeheart jump, his golden eyes staring at his dead mate as her jaws hung limply open. "NoName doesn't want a traitor anywhere near her camp," Zephyr continued, "Blossomfur's going in the body pile."

"What?" Shadeheart hissed, turning to look up at Zephyr. "The pit where the dead Prisoners are taken? She deserves a proper burial!"

"I'm just following orders." The grey tom muttered. "I'd suggest you take this up with NoName... If you want your ears torn out." He smiled slightly at his own joke, picking Blossomfur back up again and resuming his trip out of camp.

Shadeheart huffed angrily, watching them go. He didn't want to talk to NoName. She was the reason he had had to kill his mate. It made him sick to think about it, but he wished he had let his mother die so that Blossomfur could have lived. But then she would have the shadows, and he wasn't sure that would've gone well for them. The shadows were a great responsibility, and Blossomfur knew nothing about them.

It doesn't matter now. Shadeheart sighed as Blossomfur's limp tail trailed out of the camp entrance, out of sight. She's gone. I can't do anything about that.

It was later in the day. NoName still hadn't emerged from her den, her wounds were still healing. She was quite shaken by the attack, even though this was the second one to occur.

Dime had decided that they weren't going to announce the attack, word would eventually spread around camp anyway. There was no use in making the problem larger when the attacker was already dead. This way it would all die down quickly and the Dark Forest warriors could get back to their duties.

Shadeheart sighed, laying in the shade outside the nursery tunnel. His kits lay with him in solemn silence, grieving the loss of Blossomfur. Bluesnow had left them alone. Everyone had left them alone; the camp was deserted.

Zephyr had already returned after dumping Blossomfur's body outside of camp. The grey furred Promethean hadn't even looked at Shadeheart as he had disappeared into the nursery to visit Flare. It made Shadeheart tremor with anger at the fact that no one seemed to care that Blossomfur had died. Did they all hate her that much?

Were they all right about Blossomfur? Shadeheart wondered in silence, his head hanging low. Was Blossomfur really that bad? Manipulating the cats around her? Toying with them?

She was so possessive over me. Shadeheart remarked, recalling the countless times she had attacked him- mentally and physically- for being around other she-cats. She was obviously jealous, and she had trust issues. But that proved how much she cared about me. She loved me just as much as I loved her.

You obviously didn't love her enough. Murderer.. A small voice in his mind whispered, the sharp taste of his mate's lifeblood in his jaws returning to him for an instant. It made him jump up, jolting his kits awake. They cried in distress, but Shadeheart was too busy battling his own thoughts to tend to them.

"I'm not a murderer." Shadeheart hissed to himself, his blood-stained claws sinking into the soft, sandy ground. "Blossomfur did this to herself.. It's her fault."

Keep telling yourself that. Blossomfur's voice purred right in his ear, and he spun around in terror, but she was nowhere to be found. His heart thumped so loudly in his ears he swore it was going to burst from his chest.

"Blossomfur." Shadeheart cried, staring around him in desperation. "Blossomfur please come back." He started sobbing uncontrollably, collapsing on the ground as his mate's voice haunted him.

His kits attempted to comfort him, but the only release he could find was when he eventually fell into a restless sleep, greeted only by choking blackness...

Story endings are still my weakest point :))) They just can't seem to flow naturally to me.

Buuut I hope everyone enjoyed book 4 of this never-ending series! The next book is the final one. (Yep, this series will only have 5 books to it!) No it's totally not because I'm lazy where'd you possibly get that idea from? *nervous laughter*

Just because there's one less book doesn't mean it's going to be bad. (hopefully.) I'm going to try hard as always for book 5, perhaps even harder, since I want a satisfying finale to the LightClan series. Plus, with only one book left instead of two, theoretically there will be more interesting stuff to fit in, so it will probably be longer and more exciting than two slightly mediocre books (,:

Oh look I've hit 2000 words. Quite an achievement for my writing nowadays.

As always there will be a Bonus Chapter coming soon, so please stick around for that. This one should be pretty good too, though it might be a bit delayed. Shouldn't take more than a week to publish though.

And like usual I will be posting a part on here informing you all when the next book is out. If it's not out by the end of September you are all authorised to remind me about it through PM, using any force necessary to get me off my lazy ass to write.
