Chapter 18

Silvershy's POV:

She awoke to find she was alone in the twoleg den- at least she thought she was alone. In fact, Spectrum was still sitting close by, her pale green eyes ever watchful. "Where are the others?" Silvershy queried, yawning quietly as she rose to her paws to stretch.

"Outside. You've been asleep for barely an hour, so you haven't missed much." Spectrum reported, striding over to the silver she cat. "How are you feeling? How are your kits?"

"I'm feeling refreshed, and I think they are as well." Silvershy purred, looking across at her swollen belly. "But they really are taking their time."

"I would prefer it if they waited until we go back to a safe and secure spot." Spectrum replied. "It wouldn't be ideal if they arrived in twolegplace. Who knows what dangers lurk here."

"Surely you know more than I do; you're the immortal one." Silvershy meowed, looking over at the black furred she cat.

"I stick to the areas uninfected by twolegs." Her voice was stiff, guarded. "They only cause trouble. And you'd be surprised how many Prometheans are hiding among them, taking their forms." Spectrum shuddered. "I'm clueless as to why they chose that way of life, but it's their decision."

Promethean's taking twoleg forms? Silvershy had never heard of such a thing, but it hardly surprised her. Prometheans were very strange beings, that was for sure.

"Shall we rejoin the others?" Silvershy asked, looking around for the right way to meet back up with her kits and Lemon. "I'd rather not linger for too long in this den."

"Follow me." Spectrum led the way across the room, her paws swift. She weaved through the maze of rooms within the twoleg den with amazing ease. How does she know her way around here so quickly? Silvershy stumbled after the Promethean, stopping to catch her breath as they finally made it to the garden. In the unnaturally clean clearing bathed in sunlight lay Java, Ebony, Stump and Lemon. The four cats appeared to be reminiscing about a past event in their lives, their eyes bright as the story was retold.

"..And then I tossed her off the fence, right into the dog's awaiting jaws." Java was meowing, a proud grin plastered on his lips. "I think it's safe to say she didn't escape with her life."

A sigh left Lemon's lips. "Honestly, you three are so violent. I worry for you." The kittypet gave her paw a lick. "But I understand you do this to survive."

"It's a harsh life out there." Ebony murmured, finally noticing Silvershy and Spectrum's approach. "Too bad we couldn't have the soft life of a warrior."

All eyes turned to Silvershy, and she silver she cat felt her skin grow hot under her fur. "Clan life is harsh too." She stammered defensively, taking a seat close to the gathered cats.

"Oh really? Prove it." Java smirked at Silvershy. "I bet you your petty Clan life is nothing like our daily struggle."

"Why do you think she left you here in twolegplace?" Spectrum cut in with a low growl. "It was obviously too dangerous to raise kits in that environment!"

Silvershy blinked in surprise at the Promethean's outburst, but she was grateful Spectrum was on her side. "Yeah." She agreed, suddenly coming up with the perfect story to tell her three kits. "Why don't I tell you about your father's death?"

Three sets of ears pricked in interest. Even Lemon appeared mildly curious. "Alright let's hear it." Java meowed, confidence still dripping from his voice.

This'll make their stomachs churn. Silvershy opened her jaws to begin the story telling, a small, but sad smile on her lips.

Shadeheart's POV:

"Oh it was so scary Shadeheart.." Blossomfur leaned dramatically into his dark fur. "I can't believe Zephyr did that to her."

Shadeheart let out a murmur of agreement, shifting slightly against his mate to get comfortable. They were seated outside the nursery, relaxing in the afternoon sunlight. Redleaf's body had been tossed away ages ago, but Shadeheart was still greatly upset about her unfortunate murder. He had tried so hard to let Redleaf and Curledtail live, and now they were dead. At least their kits lived on, hopefully for their whole lives.

"I'll really miss her." Blosssomfur pushed her muzzle into the crook of his neck. "Won't you?"

"Of course." Shadeheart replied. "She was a good cat." He noticed the cream she cat's tail lash slightly in anger, and he bit his tongue, wondering what he had said wrong.

It took a few moments for Blossomfur to return to her grieving state. "Her poor kits, how will they survive?"

"They'll make it through." Shadeheart mumbled. "They aren't the only ones who have lost someone."

Blossomfur seemed to jolt with surprise, her tail curling. "Ah, yes.. Yes.. But.. It's still so sad." She sighed, relaxing again.

Shadeheart looked closely at his mate. "Are you feeling okay?"

"I don't know." Blossomfur responded softly. "I.. I think.."

"What?"

"I might be expecting kits.. Again."

Sorry I'm losing all motivation to continue this series, but I'll keep going until it concludes ^^ This series will only be 5 books long so it's close to the end! Who's excited? I am, of course, because I know all the horrible stuff that's going to happen. ;3
