Chapter 4

Blossomkit's POV:

Her dreams were filled with disjointed murmurs and whispers. All around her were the soft voices of cats, but all she could see was choking blackness on all sides. There wasn't even a ground, she was floating in empty space.

Blossomkit let out a small mew of fear, her green eyes widened as she stared around her for any signs of where she actually was.

"Traitor to the clans!" A voice suddenly yowled in her ear, making Blossomkit squeak in surprise and flail her paws at the sound. One of her forepaws hit something hard and warm. She peered closer as light started to filter through, allowing her to see what was before her.

A yowl of terror left her jaws as all she could see was dark red as her paws. A sea of red liquid surrounded her, lapping at her belly fur. "Blood!" She shrieked, leaping up to try and escape the thick mass of crimson.

"Traitor!" The voice snarled again, seemingly right beside her. Blossomkit stumbled away and fell over, into the blood. For a heartbeat, she was fully submerged in the dark, red sea with no possible escape. But suddenly, she snapped awake in her nest with a petrified yowl.

Shadekit's POV:

"Shhh!" Bluekit hissed from the back of the group, her blue eyes wide. "They'll hear us!"

Stormkit glanced back at his sister from the head of the group. "Then stop talking!"

"You're talking!" Bluekit hissed in reply.

"Be quiet!" Darkkit muttered from where she stood beside Shadekit.

"Shh!" Stormkit waved his paws at his littermates. "Stop talking!"

"You stop talking!" Darkkit lashed her tail. "I'm not saying anything!"

"You just did!"

Shadekit sighed and shook his head. The four of them were exploring the warriors den, and they had made it inside successfully. But then the arguments had begun. Maybe I should've stayed napping with Blossomkit... Shadekit flattened his ears as Bluekit whisper-yelled insults at her siblings, telling them to be quiet.

"Alright, now everyone shut up!" Stormkit stared at his littermates sternly, his grey fur bristling. Silence met his words and he grinned. "Good."

"You just said for us to shut up, that counts for you as well!" Darkkit hissed, glaring at her brother.

"I told you to be quiet!" Stormkit growled back.

"Guys!" Bluekit yelped. "Someone's coming!"

All eyes turned to the den entrance to see Tigerstripe stalking towards the warriors den, the Enforcer's green eyes narrowed.

"Hide!" Stormkit shrieked, darting for the nearest nest. Shadekit dove after the grey dappled tom, burrowing under the moss. The nest smelled strongly of Tigerstripe.

"Mouse-dung! We chose Tigerstripe's nest!" Shadekit whispered, glancing at Stormkit to see the little tom's eyes were wide with fear.

"Quiet!" Shadekit heard Bluekit's whisper from the other end of the den, and the sound of nests rustling echoed around the den.

Finally, there was silence within the den just as Tigerstripe walked in. The brown tom padded around the many nests, making his way towards his own. Shadekit held his breath, his heart beating wildly in his chest. What will he do if he finds us? The warriors den is forbidden to kits!

The Enforcer reached his nest before rolling into it with a faint, weary sigh. His bulky body squashed Shadekit and Stormkit, the two toms letting out shrieks as they were crushed beneath his weight. Tigerstripe hissed in surprise and stood up again, moving about the moss in his nest to see Stormkit and Shadekit gasping for breath within.

"Hey!" The brown tabby hissed, his teeth bared. "What're you doing in here?"

"W-we were just exploring!" Stormkit squeaked in fright, struggling to his paws. "Please let us go!" Shadekit stood up as well, stumbling sideways, his whole body aching from the force of Tigerstripe's body crushing him for those brief moments.

Tigerstripe flattened his ears and swatted at the two, knocking them down. "I told you already to stop messing about in places you shouldn't go to, but you didn't listen!" He picked them both up in his jaws and started carrying them out of the den.

"Noo! Put me down!" Stormkit kicked at Tigerstripe.

He only bit down harder on their scruffs, making Shadekit wail in pain. "Let go!"

Tigerstripe let out a hiss and dropped the two, twirling around to see Bluekit and Darkkit attacking his tail. The Enforcer lashed his tail away from the two she kits and shoved them towards their den mates. "All four of you? I'm taking you to NoName!" He leaned down to grab them again but they darted away with squeals of terror.

Shadekit ran deeper into the warriors den, right to the far den wall. He pressed himself against it, trying to blend into his surroundings. Tigerstripe growled at him. "Stupid kit, I can see you hiding clear as day! You can't hide with those glowing golden eyes!" He lunged for Shadekit and caught him in his claws. Shadekit cried out and flailed in Tigerstripe's grip, trying to bite down on his large paw.

There was a battle cry behind them and Tigerstripe kicked out with his hind leg. Shadekit saw Stormkit thrown backwards from the impact, falling into a nest with a loud wail. Darkkit and Bluekit ran to Stormkit with mewls of terror for their brother.

Tigerstripe wrapped his jaws around Shadekit's scruff and lifted him into the air. "I don't care who your parents are, you are being punished for breaking rules repeatedly!"

Shadekit flailed his paws and whimpered. "I promise not to do it again!"

"Too late, you're not getting out of this unscathed!" Tigerstripe threw him onto the ground beside his den mates and he gasped from the impact, the air rushing out of his lungs.

Shadekit lifted his head to see Stormkit wailing and crying, nursing a forepaw that looked twisted. Bluekit and Darkkit crouched on either side of him protectively, glaring at Tigerstripe. Shadekit shuffled closer to his den mates, growling.

Just as Tigerstripe was about to charge at the four kits, Mountain appeared from behind them and lunged in his way with a snarl. As soon as Tigerstripe made contact with the grey tabby, they both blinked away from view with a faint burst of blue mist that slowly fell to the ground before fading into nothing.
