Far From Home: Part 1 - Human AU

Okay, we finally have our first request! Many people requested this, but the person who explicitly said "Hey can you write this" was @AnimatedRainwing.

This one is also coincidentally one of my favorite ships in the series. As the title says, this is also a Human AU. This one will not be a song-fic, mainly because I have no idea what song to do if it was to be one.

There will be no -star's, just their warrior names. And American Measurements will be used.

As I'm writing this I still have no idea what I'm gonna do with this chapter.

Here we go.

Also screw what I said I have a really good idea.

This story takes place in (Randomly generating a state...) Wisconsin.

Oh whoops just realized the chapter title is the Spiderman movie... I don't mean it to be the same.

He was sitting in the chair, his ankle set upon his opposite knee and face in his palms. His boss would not stop talking about how "This is an exclusive company" and that "You could be putting more effort into your work".

At this point he was seriously considering leaving this company and taking his chances at starting his own business. He didn't hate the work, or the pay, or anything about the company itself. He just preferred flying solo, and the kiss-up attitude in the workplace just wasn't for him.

"Hey, are you even listening to me?"

"I- Yeah."

"Then repeat back to me the last few words I just said."

"Uh, the market is becoming more competitive, and I need to put more work in."

His boss sighed in disappointment. "While that is the overall message of this conversation, it's not close to what I said. I even made it easy for you! It was 'Hey, are you even listening to me'?"

His boss smiled as if he had made a funny joke, but the man was not amused. He swept a hand through his dark grey hair, his blue eyes drooped with exhaustion.

"Look, I'm sorry that I haven't been putting my work in, but everyone around me is too..."

"Determined?"

"No, more like self-centered. And I get that I kind of am as well, but I don't like me."

"Well that seems to be more of an immediate issue. Have you considered therapy?"

"I don't need someone else's opinion on my life!"

"But maybe you do. Maybe if you could learn to appreciate yourself you could learn to be calmer and respect everyone in this company."

"With all due respect sir, that was incredibly cheesy. And also incredibly unlikely. I'm not going to go get therapy."

"Maybe you could find other types of therapy. Activities you find pleasing or calming, possibly a girlfriend?"

"Please. That'd only add to my stress. Plus, like I said earlier, I fly solo."

"Then maybe it's about time you change that." The man rolled his eyes. There was no way he'd fall in love, not after his last relationship with that foreigner.

She was from someplace in Europe that he couldn't remember, but damn had she been gorgeous. Silver, Long, wavy hair, similar to his own actually, with the softest white skin he'd every seen. She was just the kind of woman he had been looking for, but then he found out that she was only over on a business trip, and had to return back to her home country after a month.

"Alright, you're dismissed. Look, you can leave for the day, and take tomorrow off as well for your mind. But I expect you back on Thursday. If not, I may have to fire you."

"Okay, thank you sir." The man stood up, shook his boss' had, and turned around to leave.

He quickly made his way downstairs to the ground floor of the building. He decided to take the stairs this time because he wouldn't have to interact with so many people.

"G'afternoon Heathertail."

"Huh- oh, hey! Are you heading out early?"

"Yep, with special permissions from the boss." Heathertail was one of the few people he actually liked. He even goes so far as to get her a birthday gift every year.

"Alright, you take care. I'll see you tomorrow morning."

"Thursday actually."

"I meant that." The man shook his head and chuckled to himself, exiting the building while putting his overcoat on.

When the man returned to his apartment, he immediately threw his coat over a chair and laid down on his couch, closing his eyes and stretching.

Sadly, his mind wouldn't let him rest, and he groaned as he lifted himself from the couch. He threw his overcoat on and decided he would go on a walk around the city, maybe pop into a few of the new stores around.

He exited and closed the door behind him, his eyes widened as he was surprised by the light snowfall around him. "Jeez, It's only October. Can't you give me a few more weeks of warm weather?"

The wind suddenly picked up as if it was telling him no, so he just rolled his eyes, stuffed his hand in his coat pockets, and started making his way through the city.

He decided to hop into the next designer shop and take a look threw all the new designs on the racks.

As he was scrolling through a rack with an especially edgy design, a woman came up to him. "Anything specific you're looking for, sir?"

"No, I don't have the kind of money to pay for these things. I'm just looking, thanks."

"Alrighty then!"

The woman retreated back into the store, going off to help someone else.

The man kept pulling out random articles of clothing and checking them out, for some reason needing to remind himself that he couldn't afford any of this.

"AHHHHH! SOMEONE HELP ME!"

He nearly jumped out of his boots as he heard the screech, and rushed outside. He saw a young lady thrashing as two burly man tried to wrestle her into the backseat of their car.

As he looked around he saw that everyone was staring at the scene, but no one was actually doing anything to help the poor woman.

"Can someone please do something? At least call the cops!" The woman called as she struggled to stay out of the car.

"Keep quiet and we won't make this painful," one of the burly men growled in her ear.

As the man looked around once more, he still saw no one who was going to step in.

"To Hell with this." The man took his overcoat off and handed it to the nearest person, who happened to be a teenager. "Hold this, and get the cops here as soon as possible."

The teenager nodded, his eyes filled with shock, and pulled out his phone, fumbling with it as he dialed 911.

The man briskly made his way over to the burly men, who didn't seemed so burly since it was taking them so long to get that woman in the car.

"Hey!" He yelled. The two men looked over to him, and he wound up and hit one with a sick uppercut through his jaw. He reeled back in pain and collapsed. He turned as the other man let go of the woman and focused his attention on him.

"Go!" He yelled to the woman, who rushed inside of the designer store he was just in for safety.

He hunched over as the second man punch him in his gut, knocking the wind out of him. He didn't have much time to catch his breath, because he immediately followed his punch with a sweep to his legs, knocking him on his side.

The man quickly sprang up, readying himself for the next attack. He briefly looked over to see that the first man was unconscious on the sidewalk. All the better for him, now he only had one man to fight off.

He was slightly surprised that just one punch had taken that first man out. Obviously these men were not very strong.

The man waited for the other assaulter to throw his punch, and when he did, the man grabbed his arm, threw him to the ground, and twisted it behind his back, pinning him in place.

"Now listen, you have two options here. Either you stop struggling and I hold you until you're taken into custody, or you keep struggling, I break your arm, and the you go into custody with an extra hospital bill."

"You wouldn't break my arm, you're bluffing!"

The man let a little bit of demon show through and gave the man below him a sadistic grin. "Are you sure about that?" He said, twisting his arm a little further.

"Ow ow ow ow! Stop! Stop, I'll do whatever!"

"Good, we've come to an agreement."

They waited on the sidewalk, some of the crowd dispersing, until the police finally showed up to the scene.

"Looks like you had this handled pretty well, sir."

"Just take the two away, I have other things to do today."

"Will do sir, you can release them and be on your way."

"Thank you officer."

The man stood up and dusted his pants off, walking over to the teen who was still holding his coat.

Handing him a few dollars, the man said, "Thanks kid, here's a few bucks."

"Thank you sir! Have a good day!" And the kid ran off.

The man decided to check on the young lady to see if she was okay, even if it was out of character for him.

Entering in the store, he used his tall frame to see over the crowd of people that had taken shelter inside. He saw the woman in a back corner, sitting on a bench with her face in her hands, quietly crying out of fear.

The man made his way over to her, lightly tapping her shoulder and asking, "Miss? Are you alright?"

The woman looked up, and when she saw who it was, she jumped up and hugged him. The man was taken aback, but awkwardly hugged her back.

"Thank you so much! I can't express how thankful I am for you."

"No worries Miss."

She went back to crying very lightly when she let go of the man. "Please, can I offer you dinner as a show of gratitude?"

"Oh Miss, I couldn't-"

"Please? Do it for me?"

The man sighed. "Alright, if you say so. Where would you like to go?"

The woman cringed up a little bit, "That might be an issue. I don't know any places around here."

"Okay then, I'll take us somewhere." The young lady nodded and let him lead the way out of the store and onto the streets of the city. She kept really close to him, so close it was almost uncomfortable.

He took her to a small Mexican diner that he went to pretty regularly. It wasn't anything to fancy, kind of like your classic Applebee's or Red Robin.

They sat down at a two person table next to a window facing the street, awaiting our server.

"So what's your name?"

"Hmm?"

"What. Is. Your. Name."

"Oh, sorry, I didn't hear you the first time. 'Name's Crowfeather."

"Ooo, that's a cool name."

"I wouldn't say so. Something that symbolizes death and then the complete opposite."

"At least it fits your hair."

"Fair point. What's yours?"

"Leafpool."

"Now that is a beautiful name."

"Why thank you."

The waiter finally came as they finished their chit-chat. "Can I get you two started with something to drink?"

Leafpool started off, "Can I have the Strawberry Lemonade?"

"Of course! And for the gentleman?"

"I'll just have a water, please."

"No problem. I'll be back with those in just a sec."

The two both watched as the waiter retreated towards the back of the restaurant.

"You're feeling a bit homesick?"

"Huh?"

"Strawberry Lemonade. That's like, the classic homesick drink. And you said you weren't from here. Which leads me to my next question: What brings you to Wisconsin?"

"I'm visiting my sister. She moved in with her husband just a few minutes away, and I was just checking out the city before I head back to my parents house in North Carolina."

"What's your sister's name?"

"Squirrelflight. She's the feisty one."

The waiter returned with their drinks and laid the drinks in front of them. "Are you ready to order?"

Leafpool looked at him somewhat sheepishly. "Any chance you'd split a nacho with me?"

Crowfeather shrugged, "Sure."

"One nacho coming up."

Once again, after the waiter left, Crowfeather spoke up. "You just said that Squirrelflight was the feisty one." He couldn't help but feel that he had heard that name before.

"What, I'm not allowed to like nachos because I'm not the feisty one? That sounds like food-ism."

"I- What? It just surprised me."

They mainly kept silent as they waited for their food to come, sometimes making small talk about their childhood lives.

Crowfeather quickly gave Leafpool a once-over. She was pretty, no doubt. Curly, long brown hair currently tied back in a ponytail. Much smaller than him, although that applied to most everyone. She had brown eyes that were so light they were almost amber, and lighter skin.

To Crowfeather's delight, she also looked to be of the same age as him, possibly younger by a year or so.

Finally, the waiter returned with their nacho and set the plate in the middle of the table. "If you two need anything, just let me know. Enjoy!"

They dug into their nachos, both taking enormous bites out of the pile of tortillas and cheese.

Crowfeather's eyes lit up in surprise as he accidentally bit into a very spicy jalapeño. He started panting and reached for his water, chugging half the glass in one gulp. Leafpool quickly reacted, scooping a bunch of the queso into a spoon with a bit of avocado. "Eat it."

Crowfeather nodded and took the spoon, quickly gobbling up the remedy for the spicy jalapeño. Surprisingly, the concoction actually worked, and Crowfeather's searing tastebuds cooled down.

"Queso for quelling the spice, and avocado for keeping the queso at a cool temperature. Don't want you burning your tongue."

Crowfeather coughed before replying, "Where did you learn all this?"

"I'm a Naturopathic Doctor."

"A Naturo-who?."

"I study naturopathy. It's the study of natural medicines. Spice remedies were one of the topics we covered."

"Oh, never mind, I know what that is. My boss has friends that do that."

"Really? Where do you work?"

Crowfeather groaned, he really didn't like talking about where he worked. "Madison Department of Turbine Management. There is way too much office work for something like that."

"Wait, led by Onewhisker?" Crowfeather nodded. "Oh, I know that company. My sister uses you guys regularly. She always has issues with her power."

Crowfeather laughed. "I'm not one of the technicians. I just do the math and paperwork."

"Sounds boring."

"It definitely is."

"Then why you do it?"

"Money is money. Gotta keep a roof over my head. I'm thinking about leaving soon, though."

"Where do you plan on going?"

"I don't know, maybe I'll come to North Carolina with you." Leafpool didn't seem to pick up on Crowfeather's flirt, and he felt oddly disappointed.

"You should! I could never get used to the never-ending snow up here, and the warm weather is great. Plus the people are nice, and don't try to kidnap you."

Even Leafpool grimaced at her joke. Talking about something like that, especially when it just happened to you, wasn't ideal.

"Plus, it's not like they could get to a strong man like you if they tried." Crowfeather smiled at the compliment, and was desperately hoping that she was flirting, and not just complimenting him.

An awkward silence fell over them yet again as they stopped talking. Their nacho was surprisingly almost gone, and Crowfeather realized that he had been hungrier than he thought. He had also downed his water, and he now just realized that the waiter had brought them their check.

"So when do you leave back to North Carolina?"

"My flight is at 10:03 tonight. I'm probably going to the airport around 9."

"Hmm."

Leafpool continued on explaining things about her family and what she does for a living, but Crowfeather wasn't paying attention, he was thinking.

Leafpool had grown on him amazingly quickly. He couldn't let her get away from him like last time. Maybe Onewhisker was right. Maybe he did need girlfriend.

Crowfeather pulled out his phone and opened up a search engine. Leafpool noticed, and was not particularly happy.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

"What seat are you in?"

"Huh?"

"For the airplane. What seat are you in?"

"E26, why?"

"Would you like to do the honors?" Crowfeather set his phone on the table and turned it towards Leafpool to reveal that he was about to book a ticket next for the seat next to Leafpool.

"You're really going to come!"

"Yep."

"But you just met me. For all you know, I could be leading you to your death."

"I'm fine with that. I just need to get outta here."

Leafpool paused, her finger hovering above the pone screen. "Are you sure you want to do this? You bought a one-way ticket."

"Positive. I'll buy another one if I decided I don't like it there." Crowfeather was surprised by how fast he'd fallen for Leafpool. It'd only been a couple of hours since he'd met her. Onewhisker was right, he did need a girlfriend. He was lovesick.

"Well, it's..." Leafpool looked at her watch, which wasn't there. She pulled out her phone instead and powered it on. "It's almost six o'clock, so how about we both head back to our places and pack up. Do you own a car?" Crowfeather shook his head. "Alright, I'll come and pick you up at about eight."

"That seems wrong, you having to pick me up."

"You could always walk."

"I'm not complaining, just saying, it doesn't seem chivalrous. I'd rather pick you up, but fate sucks sometimes."

"Cheers to that."

Crowfeather saw Leafpool reaching for something, and looked down to see it was the bill for the meal. He quickly swiped his hand out and stole the bill. "You really though I was going to let you pay for this?"

Leafpool put her hands up in surrender. "Fine, I'll give you that liberty."

The bill wasn't all that expensive to begin with, so Crowfeather quickly signed the bill and laid a few dollars in the table for a tip. "Shall we?"

They both stood up from the table, and Crowfeather grabbed Leafpool's coat to put around her.

"Jeez, you really do care about chivalry." Crowfeather sheepishly smiled at the comment.

"Hey, a man can't treat a lady?" Leafpool chuckled and smiled.

Crowfeather quickly got lost in her smile, and had to shake his head to break himself out of it. He hurried ahead to hold open the door for her, and followed her out.

"Do you know the apartment block down by the coffee shop?" Leafpool nodded. "I live there. I'll see you at eight." And Crowfeather walked away.

'~*****~'

"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" Crowfeather slammed his head against his pillow one more time. He realized he had forgotten to say a goodbye to Leafpool. He knew it was small, but he still felt incredibly bad.

He also realized that during their dinner together, he had only really talked about himself, and all he found out about Leafpool was that she had a sister in Madison and her dad knew Onewhisker.

He took a quick peek over to his clock. It read 7:38, which meant Leafpool would be here soon. He had already packed everything, double and triple checked, and had left a note to his Landlord explains where he'd be. That meant that he had some time to beat himself up over a bunch of small things.

He thought mainly about Leafpool, and all the things he could have done better, but also about how he hadn't called his mother in awhile, or how he was leaving Heathertail to fend for herself.

Crowfeather groaned and sat up, his short smoky hair now ruffled from the pillow. "Great. Now I have to fix this as well."

He stood up and moved to his bathroom, grabbing a comb and running it through his hair.

Crowfeather didn't know why, but for some reason, running a comb through his hair was one of the best feelings in the world. He also realized he had forgotten to put any cologne on, even if he was only going on a plane. He still wanted to be impressive.

Another look at the clock showed that it was 7:53. how that much time had already passed from him just being in the bathroom, Crowfeather doesn't know. Crowfeather let out a groan and moved back to his bedroom, sat down and started to put his shoes on.

He decided just to wait for Leafpool in his room as opposed to waiting outside in the cold. There were spots to park a car behind his building that were always open, and didn't want to be standing outside as if he was pissed that she took so long.

Surprisingly, Leafpool arrived rather punctually, announcing herself with a knock on the door. "Crowfeather?"

"Coming!" He quickly grabbed his bags and lumbered over to the door, opening it with his elbow. Outside was Leafpool dressed in the exact same clothes he and seen her in earlier. He gave her a wide smile and said simply, "Hi."'

"Hi to you as well."

"Mind locking my door for me?"

Leafpool snorted, "So much for chivalry, huh?"

"Oh, so that's how you want to play it." Crowfeather dropped both of his bags with a thud, and pulled his key out of my pocket. "I'll do it myself then." He turned around and quickly twisted his wrist to lock his door with the key. Facing back towards Leafpool, he said, "I don't really know how this had anything to do with chivalry, but whatever."

The two stared at each other for quite awhile in awkward silence, locking eyes. They both knew very well knew that they should have left by now, but neither could force themselves to look in another direction.

Leafpool finally broke the silence by coughing. "We should probably go."

"Yeah let's go."

Crowfeather shuffled past Leafpool and towards the exit, Leafpool awkwardly following him. The two made their way slowly to Leafpool's car, which surprised Crowfeather by how nice it was. "Didn't you rent a car?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Why is it so nice?"

"Nice rented cars are a lot cheaper than you would think. I'm not exactly comfortable with sharing how much it was just yet, but know that it was surprisingly cheap."

Crowfeather mentally shrugged and lifted the trunk to put his bags in. After setting them down, he asked Leafpool, "Do you want me to drive?"

"Depends. Do you want to?"

"I'm asking you."

"Then I'll drive." Crowfeather nodded and opened the driver's side door for her, and once she was in, moved to the passenger's side, and sat down.

Leafpool turned the car on and slowly turned onto the main street. "What time is it?"

Crowfeather looked down at his phone, "8:20. We've got time. The airport is only half an hour away. With traffic, we'll be there right at nine." Leafpool nodded, and the two stayed silent for the rest of the ride.

'~******~'

Crowfeather groaned as he lifted his bag out of the trunk. Leafpool chuckled as she watched him struggle. "Want any help with that?"

Crowfeather rolled his eyes in response, "No thanks, I've got it."

He pulled his bag dow to the ground and popped out the handle, rolling it towards the main entrance to the airport.

"Ticket?" Asked the bag-check-in lady.

Crowfeather pulled out his phone and showed her his ticket. She scanned it, and moved to set his bag on the weight scale. "You are... under! I'll take this, and you'll have it when you make it to North Carolina!"

"Thank you Miss."

"No problem!"

Leafpool went through the same process as Crowfeather, but had to pay extra because she had two bags.

"Annoying, right?"

Leafpool turned to him, "What, paying extra?" Crowfeather nodded. "Nah, I've gotten used to it. And anyways, it's not that much."

Crowfeather looked at her like she was crazy. The expense for an extra bag in Wisconsin was ninety dollars!

Seeing the confused look on his face, Leafpool responded, "My family isn't exactly... poor. We've got a bit of money."

Crowfeather didn't stop giving her an odd look, but kept walking anyways into the airport. He took a quick look down at his watch, which read 9:16. "We've got 45-ish minutes. Want a coffee?"

"Crowfeather, it's late, and a two-hour flight. That's two hours for me to sleep."

"Suit yourself." Crowfeather strolled over to the small coffee shop, and walked in. It wasn't a Starbucks or any large-brand company, it was literally just called "Café".

He grabbed his coffee and walked back out, Leafpool still waiting for him in the exact same spot. "You know that you're going to regret that, right?"

"Maybe, but I don't really care."

"Maybe you should?"

"Eh."

The two made their way over to their gate, and sat down to wait. They still had quite a bit of time, so they made small talk, talking about Leafpool's work and what it was like in North Carolina. Crowfeather found out that Leafpool, despite having a PhD and her parents being very wealthy, still lived at her parent house. "Why waste money?" She had said. "They don't mind, I don't mind, and I get to have dinner with them every night."

Crowfeather also told her more about himself, how he was originally from South Dakota and had grown up on a farm and about his parents, to him moving to Wisconsin for a job opportunity.

As the saying goes, "time flies by when you're having fun", and that appeared to be true as Crowfeather heard that they were opening the plane's gate.

"Welp, looks like we have to go. You ready?" Leafpool asked.

Crowfeather took a deep breath and responded, "Yeah, let's go."

Oh my Heavens Lord almighty Jesus above may Starclan help us all.

That took a lot longer than I expected, to say the least.

BUT 4189 FREAKING WORDS! All of this could be turned into around 4 chapters, and this is only part one of at least two, possibly three.

@AnimatedRainwing, thank you for the suggestion.

And don't expect me to write every chapter this long.

If you're from the US and don't know any of these states/their locations, that's pretty sad. But if you're from anywhere else and need help, contact me or simply look up a map of the US.

Don't worry American's, I'll still help you.

I love this ship. I only wish I was Crowfeather... I can only dream.

I don't know when I'll update this next, or when I'll even start, but I'll let you know.

Until next time
