Chapter 17. Thorn and Bobcats
"Hey, Fierceclaw, do you remember Thorn?" asked Braveheart.
"Yes. She was so fierce and so defensive, but so amazing," answered Fierceclaw.
"Ohhh, do you like her?" asked Braveheart teasingly.
"No. She's a loner," answered Fierceclaw. Thorn was a loner they had met while on patrol on their border closest to Twoleg place some time ago.
A little later, Lightningstorm, Braveheart, and Fierceclaw trotted out of camp. They would do some hunting. Suddenly, they saw something odd. It was a female bobcat. She was very thin and she moved very slowly. When she saw them, she came over to them, and spoke. "Please, can you take care of my kits? I am dying. My name is Jill. They have nowhere else to go."
"Come to our camp," said Braveheart. Lightningstorm, Braveheart, and Fierceclaw escorted Jill back to their camp.
When they reached camp, they went to see Leafstar.
"Leafstar," said Fierceclaw.
"Yes? What is a bobcat doing here?" asked Leafstar.
Jill began to tell her story. "I'm Jill. I need your help. I have two children. One is my own kit. Her name is Spottedbrush. The other is a cat kit. She said her name was Larkkit. I am dying. Take care of them, please."
"Wait! That's Morningmist's kit! We thought she was dead!" Leafstar interrupted.
"I found her in pain with a bad bite mark. There was a fox in a trap nearby. So I saved her and raised her as my own," explained Jill.
"We have to help her!" said Lightningstorm.
"Okay. We owe you. You saved Larkkit," said Leafstar. "We can help you too. Our medicine cat can help you," he offered.
"No, I'm going to die whatever you do," said Jill sadly.
Braveheart and Jill went to retrieve Jill's children. "I love you. I will miss you until my dying breath," said Jill. "Try to be good warriors, and remember, we'll be together again someday." And Braveheart took the children back to camp.
