02| OFFERING WANHEDA A DEAL

[ Chapter Two ]

❝And If I'm a warrior, why am I here in Polis?❞

[Wanheda Part One + Part Two]

Nessa paced right outside Lexa's private chambers, trying not to let her extreme stress show up on her face.

Wanheda had been refusing visitors, mainly refusing Lexa herself, for days and Nessa was growing impatient. Lexa clearly wanted to let Clarke come to her but Nessa was almost one hundred percent sure that Clarke would rather throw herself off the balcony than talk to the Commander.

Nessa had half a mind to march into Wanheda's chambers and demand that she see the Commander but Nessa knew that would make Lexa furious so she didn't.

The door to Lexa's chambers suddenly wrenched open and Lexa marched out, and dismissed the guards before turning to Nessa.

"It's time." Lexa nodded at Nessa.

"Heda." Nessa bowed her head slightly out of respect before she spoke her mind, "She's not going to join us. And even if she does, there's no way she'll be able to convince her people to. And Azgeda is too strong for us to defeat if we're constantly in disagreements with the Sky People."

Lexa held up her hand to stop Nessa from rambling, "Nessa. You're a warrior, not a strategist. Don't worry, this will work. I've already prepared a summit with Skaikru tonight."

Nessa raised an eyebrow at Lexa, "Tonight? And If I'm a warrior, why am I here in Polis?"

Lexa stopped walking and turned to Nessa, "Yes, tonight. And you're here, because I trust you and there's very few people I trust. You're also the closest thing I have to a sister, so for now, you're staying by my side."

Nessa gave Lexa a small smile, "You're also, the closest thing I have to a sister." She straightened then, "Alright, let's get this meeting over with."

Lexa led the way to Clarke's room and nodded to the guards who opened the doors and then stepped out of sight, letting the doors fall shut behind them. Nessa forced herself not to grab onto a weapon and to appear calm.

Clarke was standing by the window when they both entered and she turned, "What part of 'I won't see you' was unclear?" Her eyes flitted to Nessa, "And what is she doing here?"

Nessa opened her mouth but Lexa held up her hand so Nessa let her mouth fall shut.

"I respected your wishes for a week, Clarke. We've got bigger concerns." Lexa ignored Clarke's question about Nessa.

"We don't have any concerns at all." Clarke protested.

"Yes we do. I'm hosting a summit with Skaikru at Sundown. You'll be returned to your people." Lexa announced.

Nessa raised an eyebrow at this but didn't say anything for fear of further upsetting Clarke but she was confused as Lexa hadn't said anything about letting Clarke go before this moment.

"You went to all that trouble to capture me just to let me go?" Clarke asked.

"I went to all that trouble to save you." Lexa corrected.

Clarke scoffed, "You know when I could have used saving? When you abandoned me at Mount Weather."

Nessa's hand flitted over her sword strapped to her side but didn't make a move.

"Clearly you didn't need my help." Lexa answered.

Clarke moved towards her, "Clearly."

"You're angry Clarke. But I know you. What you've done haunts you. And it's easier to hate me then to hate yourself." Lexa said.

"Oh I can do both." Clarke spat.

"What would you have done if their leader had offered you the deal? Save your people at the price of mine? Would you really have chosen differently?" Lexa asked.

"I don't betray my friends." Clarke protested.

"But you did." Lexa answered, "You had friends in Mount Weather."

"Heda." Nessa hissed in a warning tone but Lexa just shot her a look that told her to stay quiet.

Clarke gave Nessa a quick look before spitting, "Those deaths are on you too. The only difference is you have no honor and I had no choice."

Lexa paused for a second before answering, "It helps no one to dwell on the past, and that's not why I'm here. You're right. I'm not just letting you go back to your people. I want something more. I want your people to become my people. I'm offering Skaikru the chance to join my coalition, become the 13th clan. No one would dare move against you because that would be moving against me."

"Just leave me alone." Clarke shook her head, "I'm done. Do you understand? I left."

"You can't run away from who you are, Clarke." Lexa protested, "Join me. Bow before me and your people will be safe."

"Bow before you?" Clarke asked in an angry tone, "You don't give a damn about my people. I know why you're here. I made you look weak at Mount Weather. And now the Ice Nation is exploiting that. Well, if you want the power of Wanheda, kill me. Take it."

Nessa stepped forward to Lexa's side.

"Otherwise go float yourself, because I will never bow to you." Clarke spat and glared at Nessa.

"Ungrateful little bitch." Nessa hissed under her breath as she led Lexa out of Clarke's rooms. Nessa sighed and untensed her hands which had been at her weapon before looking at Lexa, "I told you she wouldn't take the deal."

"The summit is still happening." Lexa assured Nessa, "Whether or not Clarke comes around."

Lexa had called a meeting of the clans and though Lexa had assured Nessa that she didn't need her protection, Nessa was sure something would go wrong so she insisted upon accompanying her.

"Gyon op gon Heda. (Rise for your Commander)" Titus announced.

Nessa stood by Lexa's throne as Lexa walked into the meeting and nodded at everyone before standing in front of her throne. Nessa bowed as was custom.

"Azgeda na spek yo daun gon yo Heda. (Ice Nation will bow before your commander.)" Titus said and Nessa looked up slightly to see who he was addressing.

The representative for Azgeda was standing instead of bowing to Lexa. Nessa had half a mind to yell at his misbehavior but instead she just rolled her eyes and watched.

"Heda-de beda spek em daun gon Azgeda, you. Osir get in ha osir nou na fis op nou ginteik gon osir baga. (The commander should bow before Azgeda. We know not to make treaties with our enemies.)" The representative said in rebuttal.

Nessa's eyebrow raised at his words and she looked to see what Lexa would do.

Titus moved forward to speak with the man, "Heda nou spek em daun gon non nowe. (The Commander bows before no one.)"

"Stand down, Titus." Lexa told him and Titus moved back to Lexa's side.

"Seintaim em seimbeda sleng kom baga. (She even prefers the enemies language.)" The man addressed the room this time.

Nessa growled in her throat at his words.

"And you will use it too, in honor of our guest this evening. Now sit. We have more important matters to discuss." Lexa said.

Everyone got up and sat in their chairs and Nessa stood up, moving closer to Lexa's side. She whispered so no one but Lexa could hear, "If you don't punish him. I will."

"Relax, Nessa." Lexa whispered back.

"Yes we do." The man said, "For example. Why is Wanheda still alive? If this is your weakness again, Azgeda will happily step in."

"Is that why your army has moved so close to Polis, because you believe the commander is weak?" Titus spoke up before Nessa could.

"Oh, those are just military exercises." The man scoffed.

"Exercises?" Indra stepped forward, "You crossed the border into Trikru land. An army within striking distance of our beloved capital."

Lexa got up and faced the balcony.

"A mistake that was quickly rectified." The man assured, "As you well now."

"The Ice Queen doesn't make mistakes." Titus started and Nessa interrupted.

"Titus is right." Nessa looked down at the man before hissing, "She makes threats."

"Who are you to tell me what Azgeda does and doesn't do?" The man scoffed at Nessa.

Nessa gripped her sword's handle in her belt and hissed, "I'll show you who I am."

Lexa turned around, "There's no need to argue about this again. Please. Come join me. Let us speak in private."

Nessa shot Lexa a warning look but Lexa just gave her the tiniest hint of a smile as the man walked up to the dais and joined her.

"I have a message for Queen Nia." Lexa said as the man stepped onto the balcony and turned to face her.

"And I'll happily deliver." The man was cut off as Lexa turned to face him and kicked him off the balcony with a single breath.

Everyone suddenly stood up and looked as Lexa turned around, "Would anyone else like to question my decisions?"

Everyone was silent as they sat back down. Nessa was struggling to keep a straight face as she straightened her back and resumed her place next to Lexa's throne.

"Good. Then let's begin."
