Chapter Three

Ever since Golden Pool told him about the prophecy, Hail Star has been keeping a close eye on Night Dancer, who he believed the prophecy was mostly about. Nothing seemed to be going on for a few days, however, until suddenly......

"RiverClan is invading ThunderClan territory!! They've taken over Sunningrocks!!" Screeched a yellow tom as he burst through the camp. The Clan cats immediately bristled their pelts and raised their heads in alert.

Hail Star leaped onto Highrock. "Gale Storm! Take a battle patrol with you! Take Oak Tail, Lion Stride, Leaf Claw, Brown Stripe, Night Dancer, Dark Pelt, Flame Blossom, Mouse Pounce, Berry Fall, Stem Blaze, Crow Flight, and Mallow Flower with you!" He announced to his deputy who had already accepted and gathered most of the cats who were called. "Do not let RiverClan take over Sunningrocks!" He hissed as the black tom nodded with a confident expression.

Night Dancer, Leaf Claw, and Brown Stripe hurried over at hearing their names being called. They quickly join Gale Storm and the rest of the named cats before they dashed out of camp, rushing to the approaching battle.

Sunningrocks was overtaken by Ice Star, Willow Heart, Swift Strike, Reed Tail, Fuzzy Fur, Badger Fang, Ash Storm, Echo Claw, Sunny Heart, and Bright Pool. They stood proudly on the sun-bathing rocks that ThunderClan had fought for and won many moons ago when the river stopped flowing around it, allowing access to it by the ThunderClan cats. They were waiting for ThunderClan, Reed Tail having spotted Bee Stripe see them then flee.

Gale Storm led the ThunderClan cats to Sunningrocks while he explained his plan. "Oak Tail, you take Dark Pelt, Mouse Pounce, Berry Fall, Leaf Claw, and Stem Blaze with you. Hide and wait for my signal." The ThunderClan deputy said quickly, the mottled, dark ginger tabby tom nodded and lashed his tail for the named cats to follow him. Night Dancer gave a quick, affectionate nudge to Leaf Claw before he had to leave and go with Oak Tail's group. She and Brown Stripe were all worried for each other, not just their siblings, but for their Clanmates. Gale Storm now focused on the cats he had.

"We need to drive them back into the river and on their side of the border. That is our only goal. Myself, Lion Stride, and Mallow Flower will charge straight while Night Dancer and Crow Flight will go to the left of Sunningrocks and hit them there. Brown Stripe and Flame Blossom will hit them on the right. We need to push them back as much as we possibly can. But, if we are unable to do this, then I will signal for the second patrol to come in." Gale Storm explained quickly, all the cats nodded as they took in this information as they made their way to Sunningrocks where RiverClan waited.

"Fight like warriors, not savages."

"We will let ThunderClan know that Sunningrocks rightfully belongs to RiverClan as it had been many seasons ago." Ice Star announced to the RiverClan cats who were patrolling Sunningrocks, her icy blue gaze raked the forest before her as she waited. "They will be coming soon. Don't let your guard down." She meowed to her cats who understood.

Suddenly, cats burst from the shadows of the trees and charged the RiverClan cats, claws unsheathed, fur bristling, and teeth bared. The ThunderClan cats slammed into the RiverClan cats with enough power to knock them off their paws, but Ice Star held her pride. "Do not let them win! Kill them if need be!" The RiverClan leader yowled.

Night Dancer was fighting with Willow Heart and Bright Pool, her younger brother faced Swift Strike. The black she-cat hissed as she swiped her claws at Bright Pool while Willow Heart was behind the ginger tabby she-cat, circling and waiting for the right moment. When Night Dancer staggered when the ginger cat shoved her away, the silver deputy leaped and sunk her claws and fangs into Night Dancer's shoulder, forcing a screech of pain to escape from her jaws.

The ThunderClan warrior struggled as Bright Pool charged and tried to claw at her eyes to blind her, but she would jerk away just in time to avoid the thorn-sharp claws. Night Dancer was forced to fall onto her side before she started to roll, trying to desperately throw the RiverClan deputy off of her but to no avail. But, before Night Dancer could realize, she felt rush of ice cold water wash over her face and most of her body. They were in the river.

Willow Heart smirked. She had the advantage now. With her bigger form, she flipped Night Dancer down and let go of her, but not before she shoved the black she-cat's face into the water, causing her to flail as she tried to get free from the water that was as high as her chest height.

Night Dancer felt the cold water hit her face as Willow Heart held her face down in the water, attempting to drown her. She flailed frantically as she panicked and the last of the air in her lungs was let go. The black she-cat tried to inhale instinctively but stopped immediately when she realized that if she did this, she would drown faster. She grit her teeth, shut her nose and eyes, and played dead.

Willow Heart held her down for a few more seconds as Night Dancer went limp and still, she let go of her and as she saw her body starting to drift with the river, she turned and went to help her Clanmates.

Once Willow Heart was gone, Night Dancer burst from the water and gasped for breath so hard, she sounded as if she had been holding her breath for hours. She panted and scrambled to the shore where she caught her breath and coughed out some water. Then, with a glint in her icy blue eyes, Night Dancer leaped back into battle.

Brown Stripe had knocked Swift Strike over and since he was a young cat just like himself, he and Swift Strike were almost at each other's levels. However, his training with Oak Tail was far better than Swift Strike's training with Fuzzy Fur. The light brown tabby tom pinned the black-and-white tom to the ground and gave his neck fur a threatening tug with his jaws clamped down on the fur, before he got off and shoved the cat towards the river. Swift Strike had feared for his life when Brown Stripe did this so when he spared him, the young black-and-white cat trembled then fled across back to RiverClan's side. Brown Stripe held his head up high in pride for a moment, then he looked to his Clanmates and rushed another RiverClan warrior.

Gale Storm faced Ice Star, his black pelt rippling with the powerful muscles underneath while his ears were pinned firmly against his head, the fur along his spine and tail had risen while his yellow eyes glared at the RiverClan leader.

Ice Star faced the ThunderClan deputy, her pure white fur was sleek but from this battle, it was bristled and her tail lashed warningly. Her light blue gaze struck the deputy, but failed to intimidate him the slightest. She smirked before she suddenly leaped forward, tackling Gale Storm who saw this coming. The two cats wrestled and clawed at each other, shredding fur and soon drawing blood. However, when Gale Storm missed one of his swipes, Ice Star took advantage of that and sank her fangs into his exposed throat, squeezing down on his neck hard while he tried to get free.

Gale Storm struggled as Ice Star had his neck in her jaws, he tried to claw at her face and eyes to force her to let go, but he couldn't with the weird angle he was at right now. All he could do was try and thrash, but he felt his warm blood starting to trickle down his growing wound on his neck. Ice Star held him and wouldn't let go.

Suddenly, a blur came at Ice Star and slashed at her hind legs, making her whip around to face whoever had attacked her, but she was too slow. The figure was already leaping at her. The cat landed on the RiverClan leader and the impact of their weight knocked the wind out of Ice Star, making her gasp for breath and pain as the cat dug their claws into her back. Gale Storm was sent tumbling a few tail-lengths away, but he was free.

"Night Dancer!" Gale Storm gasped in surprise. He knew that she was a loyal warrior, but he didn't think she would throw herself into battle, literally. But what mostly surprised him was how Night Dancer was fighting. She was fighting like she had years of experience. The ThunderClan deputy almost didn't recognize one of his own warriors by how she was fighting.

Night Dancer sank her fangs deep into the back of Ice Star's neck, her jaws creating a vice-like grip as her claws, front and hind, clung to the RiverClan leader. Ice Star wailed in agony and thrashed, trying to get free. Her cry alerted her warriors, especially Willow Heart. The black she-cat keeps clawing at the white she-cat while RiverClan warriors started to come after her, attempting to free their leader from the ThunderClan warrior.

Finally, Ice Star threw Night Dancer off of her shoulder, but not without ripping some fur and flesh from the Clan leader's shoulder. The new wound started to bleed and stain the white cat's fur, but that was the least of her problems.

Gale Storm flicked his tail, signalling for the second battle patrol. They rushed in and the ThunderClan cats started to intimidate the RiverClan cats who were at a disadvantage in numbers. Then, Ice Star growled and rose her head. "RiverClan, retreat!" She cried out.

Gale Storm and the ThunderClan cats watched as the RiverClan cats fell back, crossed the river onto their side of the border, and disappear in their territory. Blood splatters stained some of the rocks and the earth of Sunningrocks.

"Sunningrocks belongs to ThunderClan!"

Night Dancer panted heavily, something flashed in her blue eyes that caught Gale Storm's attention as she was catching her breath. He decided not to bring it up to her at the moment. Leaf Claw and Brown Stripe immediately go to their sister, licking at her wounds worriedly.

"I'm fine! Really!" Night Dancer meowed as she chuckled in amusement, letting her brothers lick her wounds to try and stop any bleeding. Suddenly, she pinned her ears against her head and hissed at them. "I said I'm fine!" She hissed loudly and threateningly, making her brothers flinch back in surprise. The two brown toms backed up in confusion and concern as Night Dancer grunted and padded away, heading in the direction of camp. The rest of the cats looked on with frowns that reflected the brothers' emotions.

Back at camp, the medicine cat, Golden Pool, and her apprentice, Dew Pool, begin to treat the wounded cats that returned from the battle with RiverClan. Gale Storm was proud and happy to report to Hail Star that they had won the battle and Sunningrocks remains as ThunderClan's territory.

The cats who were most injured were Gale Storm, Night Dancer, Lion Stride, Flame Blossom, and Crow Flight. Gale Storm suffered a major wound to his neck, but luckily, not fatal. Night Dancer suffered deep bite wounds to her shoulders and claw marks to her flanks and chest. Lion Stride's already battle-scarred ears were bleeding and damaged, he gained a scar on his right, hind leg. Flame Blossom had gotten a scratch over her left eye which she had shut because of blood dripping down from her wound. And Crow Flight had his right ear torn halfway off.

The two medicine cats tended to the wounds expertly. Soon enough, ThunderClan was getting settled after the excitement of the win at Sunningrocks. Hail Star was proud of all of the cats. Then, Gale Storm approached his leader.

"Hail Star? May I speak to you, alone?" The deputy asked the silver-and-black tabby tom who had turned his head to him when he was addressed. Hail Star nodded, then the two went into Hail Star's den.

"What is it, Gale Storm?" Hail Star asked, seeing the concern on Gale Storm's expression and in his yellow eyes. His tail laid carefully over his paws as he waited for his deputy's response.

Gale Storm inhaled before he looked up at Hail Star. "During the battle today, Ice Star had ordered her cats that they can kill. I think she's planning something." He reported to his leader, Hail Star's eyes widened in surprise and horror. "And, when I was being attacked by Ice Star, she was trying to go for the kill, but Night Dancer jumped in and saved me, even though she had just tricked Willow Heart, RiverClan's deputy, that she had been drowned by her. But when Night Dancer was fighting Ice Star, I saw something in her eyes that weren't normal. When the RiverClan cats left, however, it vanished." He meowed as he recalled the entire battle.

Hail Star listened and the prophecy that Golden Pool had received rung in his head as Gale Storm explained the events that took place in the territorial battle.

"And when Brown Stripe and Leaf Claw came up to help her, Night Dancer rejected her brothers' help and hissed at them. As far as I've known them, they are very close and I've never heard them get really mad or even growl at each other." Gale Storm continued, worry filled his yellow eyes as he gazed at his leader's own eyes who shown worry too, but also confusion and curiosity.

"I see......" Hail Star trailed off, thinking to himself as he tried to figure out some sort of explanation to all of this, but he failed.

Hail Star lifted his tail as he stood on top of Highrock; he had called for a Clan meeting. "I will go with Golden Pool to Highstones, to speak with StarClan. I leave Gale Storm in charge while I am gone." He announced briefly, glancing to Gale Storm who nodded determinedly, then to Golden Pool who seemed slightly confused, but she didn't show it too much. Then, he ended the Clan meeting and jumped down to meet with the medicine cat who greeted him. As the day passed on, Hail Star and Golden Pool had eaten travelling herbs, as bitter as they were, they would prove essential to their long journey ahead of themselves. It was between dawn and sunhigh when the ThunderClan leader and medicine cat departed from camp and headed to Highstones where the Moonstone rest.

Night Dancer lay in her nest with her two brothers beside her, in their own nests. She slept peacefully, as did the other warriors in the warriors' den. However, she frowned as something disturbed her dreams. In her dreams, she could see herself with fire blazing all around her, making her fur stand on end as she was surrounded by it. She watched the black cat desperately try to look for an exit, but to no luck. However, she was startled when she saw another cat standing before her dream self, they faced each other. The other cat had no distinct features except for a pelt that looked like it was on fire by how the fire around dyed the cat's fur a bright orange and the wind seemed to make their fur flow and look like actual fire. That and a distinctive scar that ran down from the back of the cat's neck, running along the side, then ending along their lower chest area, in front of their front limbs.

The ThunderClan warrior was confused and horrified as she watched the other cat pounce onto her dream self, but before they landed, Night Dancer jolts awake, gasping for the air she didn't realize she hadn't taken in because she had held her breath. Her black fur was bristled and her tail was lashing wildly in fear, her icy blue eyes seemed to glow in the darkness of the thick den that encased the warriors that slept within. She looked around a few times before she realized that she was awake and safe, and so was the rest of the ThunderClan cats; she let out a slightly relieved sigh as she tried to calm herself down. But as Night Dancer tried to fall back to sleep, she found that she couldn't, and her mind kept wandering and wondering who that other cat was who had attacked her. She couldn't sleep through the rest of the night, unable to with her mind whirling with so many unanswered questions.
