Chapter Two

Blood clung to Frostfur's white paws, staining the pristine fur that was her pride. A terrified yowl escaped her throat as she recoiled, trying to shake off the crimson fluid that now marked her. ThunderClan blood, the very essence of her clan, coated her in a horrifying display. She whimpered, her gaze fixing on a large tabby tom standing menacingly over a ginger cat with striking green eyes.

"Firestar!" Frostfur's cry pierced the eerie silence as she charged toward the two toms, determination in her heart. But the treacherous blood on her paws sent her tumbling, and she landed hard, her vision clouding. Through a haze, she glimpsed a pair of icy blue eyes.

"Stay back, you must!" hissed the blue-eyed cat, his claws digging into her pelt. "Help me!" she pleaded, but her cries fell on deaf ears. The red consumed her vision, leaving her with nothing but a crimson void. The blue-eyed tom leaned in, his final words haunting her, "You should've stayed home." Darkness descended.

Frostfur awoke with a start, her breath coming in frantic gasps. Her den, illuminated by the soft moonlight, was a sanctuary. Her denmates, Mink and Cinnamonose, slumbered peacefully, their flanks rising and falling in harmony. It had been just a nightmare.

Carefully, she rose to her paws, her steps cautious, and padded out of the den. The cool, crisp air of leaf-bare greeted her, soothing her nerves. "Up so soon?" a voice whispered from the shadows, and she spun around to see her mother, her silver coat glinting in the moonlight. "Nightmare," Frostfur admitted, and Silversong's smile offered comfort.

Silversong gestured for her daughter to sit beside her as they climbed the rocky path to the leader's den, slipping through the lichen barrier. Frostfur settled in, wrapping her tail around her paws and gazing at her mother. "Do you want to talk about it?" Silversong inquired, surprising Frostfur. Her mother hadn't asked about her nightmares since becoming leader twelve moons ago. "Are you alright?"

Frostfur sighed and nodded. "I'm okay, it's just... You know how I feel about the forest cats," she began. Silversong remained silent, waiting for her to continue. "I had a strange dream, filled with blood. Cats were dying, ThunderClan was crumbling, and I couldn't do anything but watch. When a tabby tom threatened to kill Firestar, I tried to attack, but the blood on my paws betrayed me, and I fell. Another cat pinned me down, and then it was darkness. I woke up." She took a deep breath and searched her mother's eyes for answers. "What do you think it means?"

Silversong pondered for a moment, her blue eyes shimmering. "It could signify many things," she began. "Perhaps The Pack Of Stars warning you of an impending danger, something you need to be prepared for, or else you'll be burdened with the guilt of inaction. However, you should seek advice from Poppyhop; she's more knowledgeable about dreams like these."

Frostfur nodded. "You're my mother; I trust your wisdom." Silversong smiled and nuzzled her daughter before rising. "I won't keep you here any longer. The morning patrol is about to leave, so you should get ready. If these nightmares persist, don't hesitate to consult Poppyhop."

With gratitude in her heart, Frostfur left her mother's den and entered the awakening camp. The sun's rays painted the stones with a silver-gray hue.

May these nightmares stay away, she thought. I don't want to bother Poppyhop. I value her as a friend, and she's a skilled medicine wolf, but... sometimes, I just don't want to be examined because of a nightmare. It's probably nothing.

Shaking off her unease, she straightened her fur, leaped down from the leader's den, and made her way to the deputy for patrol assignments. Soon, the haunting memory of her nightmare retreated to the recesses of her mind.
